I think it's funny they have a DANGER sign pointing up at the tail rotor. Like someone is going to walk in to that thing!?!?

I never had a boom that I could fix! I don't know how you guys get away with just a little dent here and there. Mine would need a welder to put back together!

Although there was that one boom that look amazingly like the letter U and wasn't broken... wonder if I could have straightened that one out...

I like dogs, don't get me wrong... but a $700 dog can get ran over by a truck just as fast at my $60 mutt from the pound. Never understood why someone pays that much money for a dog, or a cat, or a turtle.

I have relatives that have spent and unbelievable amount of money on a dog, and have problems paying their bills sometimes. And the vet bills, wow!

So far my dog has probably cost me $400 total for the last 4 years. That includes everything! Shots, neutered, pound costs when we got him, and food! He's a great mutt!

Yup, I think it's worth the money. I did my Triton. So did the directions say to remove the residual glue? Mine just had me remove the reflective backing and put scotch tape over the LCD in it's place. Was pretty easy, but I totally understand about the bad eyesight/shaky hand thing!

I believe he's stating that as a group of 10 or more people, all coming up with $20 each, makes it almost a better solution to find the items as a group and come up with $10 or $5 of parts for each charger.

When just doing it alone, $20 is cheap! Although you take a big chance ruining a $90-$150 charger!

I bought the one for the Triton. You open up the charger and remove the reflective backing from the LCD. Then apply clear tape to the backside of the LCD (make sure you have 3/4 inch!). Replace the LCD, then slip the luminecent film behind it. It's kinda scary doing it, but it works great. Yes there is a small transformer and it does make a bit of a noise, but it isn't too bad.

Really cool to see it at night and came in handy at the last couple of fun fly's I went to.

Mine looks just like this

Yup, no guarantees but you do your best to save it. Every person I've helped by buddy boxing understood and was happy to have me helping no matter what the outcome might have been. I only lost one heli because of a broken tail control rod.

It makes the instructor an even better pilot trying to save a heli that's in a position you would never think of being

Yes it can. The 14 can buddy to any other futaba radio. You just need the right cord, and you need to change the channel assignments in the 14, since of course you can't do it in the 9C.

I've buddied a 4 channel radio with the 14MZ, worked just fine.

Yup, as everyone has said, it was an overspeed of the tail.

Another observation I have made watching the new breed of heli pilots of these little electrics. It seems people do not respect they have a flying lawn mower 3 feet from their body when it's an electric heli. I've seen at least 5 people now spool these things up within inches of themselves and fly only a few feet from their faces.

I think people are fooled by the electrics being so quiet and small. If you had a Raptor 30-90 2 feet from you're face, I betcha you'd think twice. These little buggers can do just as much damage if it hits you in the wrong spot.

Not meant to be a jab at the original post, just asking everyone to be careful! You never know when something mechanical is going to fail, and almost always it'll be at the wrong time.

So anytime you want to fly, just PM, or email me via runryder and we'll hook up. I have a 80% probability of having a heli by next year again.

Steve,

Hmm.. not sure what email you had. Well get in touch with me when you all show up.

You should be able to PM me via runryder. If not my email is helinut@gmail.com

If all things go as I hope, I may have a new job here in the next few weeks that would be able to "offset" the cost of getting back in to the heli scene.

We have a pretty good amount of heli flyers here in Kennewick, WA as long as you're talking about Yakima, WA

I used to be in the helis hardcore for about 3 years, but of course life, job, and kids have moved my hobbies elsewhere. Throw me an PM if you'd like more info. Yakima is about 1 hour from Kennewick. Lots of experienced pilots that are will to help and almost always flying on the weekends.

And of course if you need any help, I'm available just about every weekend.

I'm not sure on the shops, but for food, you have to visit Daniel's Steakhouse. It's right near South Lake Union, about 2 miles or less from the Space Needle.

Order the Filet Mingon. Oh my! It's awesome!!!

Although if you're ever in Orlando, FL. stop by Charlies Steakhouse. WOW!!! I ate there 3 times in one week when I was last there!

Man, I wish I could stay for Florida Jets weekend. I've already added two days to what I was supposed to be down here so I imagine my company wouldn't appreciate it much for another 4 days more.

I made it out to the field mentioned. The weather wasn't that great so only a few people made it out there. It's a very nice field. They said they were the "diehards" to be out there when it was 60 degrees and 5 to 10 mph down the runway!!! Holy heck man! It would have been packed if we had those conditions where I fly!

No jets that weekend, but they did say that BVM makes there home there. Wish the weather would have cooperated a bit better.

Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate it.

Hey,

For some reason I don't think that radio is retailed at 280,000 yen. If it is, there is a hell of a mark up for retail.

280,000.00 Japan Yen = 2,526.96 United States Dollars

and if the 9Z

237,000.00 Japan Yen = 2,138.89 United States Dollars

Whoa nelly!

It was definitely an awesome time! The weather had "issues" Friday and Saturday, but Sunday was of course beautiful! I flew all I wanted to fly even with 75 registered pilots. Never had to wait for a flying station, which I believe is in large part due to the new flying areas. Great job guys on making a world class field!

Triton charger.. LiPoly or LiIon?
I just got a couple of Thunder power LiPoly packs. Well the directions for them put the fear of God in me so I better ask before I go charging.

The Triton says it will charge Li-Ion. Is this basically the same and will I have any problems with the Triton charging the Li-Poly packs?

They are only 1320 mAh packs but I want to be careful.

Haha... that's funny stuff.
I work in the wireless world and I'll tell you the 2.4 range around here is saturated as hell. There is no way in heck I would even attempt to use something like that.

2.4 is unlicensed and in my opinion, not suited to our needs. Anyone can fire up a wi-fi radio network and blow you out of the sky. Especially since it is DSSS.

Interesting thought though.

We will be having the 3rd annual fun fly here in the Tri-Cities of Washington. I do believe it is the last weekend of May. It is typically the first fun fly in the Northwest and the weather is "usually" better than on the wet side of the mountains

The 4000 mAh batteries do weigh a bit more than the 2700's but as cmdiduca said, they will last a very long time. I can get 8 flights on my Extreme which has all digital servos, and still have juice in the batteries.

If you need a bit more nose weight than the 2700's give you, go for the 4000's.

Yeah, good luck on finding a dropzone that is willing to put out that much cash. I'm sure you've seen the typical dropzone "aircraft"

People always ask, "You'd jump out of a perfectly good airplane?" and I'd always say, "You've never seen the aircraft I jump out of have you?"

May be an ISP issue too. They set the DNS to point to parent directory and not the folders contained within. Actually might be a problem with their web server.

Yup, takes a lot of devotion and even more money to get to the level that you will see money coming back your way. I have over 1000 hours fixed wing in all different types of aircraft ( I was a ferry pilot for a used airplane dealership ) I only flew because I really enjoyed it. At one time I wanted to be a crop duster, which is where I started learning at, a crop duster school. Once i went through the school it was impossible to find anyone that would let me fly, unless you wanted to fly a Pawnee which is a death trap waiting to happen. Biggest problem was as Seneca says, the insurance companies. No one will let you fly for them unless the insurance guys give the OK.

I wished I could have gone the military route, didn't have the eyesight for it though, damn it all! That would be the best way to build hours in any type of turbine aircraft. I would venture a guess that anyone flying a turbine heli for a living either bought the aircraft themselves, or had military training.

Yeah, a bit more reading before applying fingers to the keyboard would be in order. I'll offer $1000 for it

You can't go wrong with his 4000 mAh pack Radical RC sells. I have two of them and love them! No charging required at the field no matter how many flights I get. I could easily get 8 flights on my Fury Extreme and not worry about the pack. Granted they are a bit heavy, but the ole YS91 hauls it around with no problems.

I didn't like NiMh initially because of some people saying they don't hold up well. As long as you cushion the vibes out, no worries

I'm not sure if I paid that $15 or not. I sent it in with my buddy's stuff that he needed repaired. I believe the invoice just said $60 to replace it.
