Trex 600 tail case bearings ?
Anyone know what number or the measurements for the tail case bearings?

The ones INSIDE.

never mind, after much "thinking" i figured out they both come out the back..

Thanks.

Mode 1 was first. It copied the toggle switch layout of a reed transmitter. Was supposed to be better for plane pattern.
thanks...

IĀ“d like to know a couple of things, which mode came first? if mode 1 did why did the go that way instead of using what full size planes were using already, that is, a stick with aileron and elevator.

If mode 2 was first why change it? was there some situation like with keyboards where they had to make typing complicated so the went the qwerty way?

IĀ“ve thought about this a few times but never asked before...

Guessing that has more to do with it than the engine -- unless your throttle servo is going out.
It could be the servo, i get a noticeable change in engine noise when it twitches.

yeah,

you can imagine my face when i tapped the hot engine on the wood block and out came four pieces instead of one.

It simply held in place because the crank held the inner race centered.

Thanks Guys,
I'm sorry i did not reply before but it has been raining everyday i wanted to go the field.

It was the bearings. When i took the rear bearing out the cage came out in two pieces, it looked fine while it was inside but apparently the balls where moving around inside the races.

One problem solved, i thought this would fix an issue iĀ“ve had with tail twitching but it did not.

The previous post detailing this problem is:
[url=http://rc.runryder.com/t671585p1/]

I've done everything detailed in that thread to no avail, the next step is to go naked, take out all electronics and go flybarred again and start eliminating.

After that is putting a for sale ad.
IĀ“m that bored.

Thanks to all.

Ok,
Things that i am sure about:

ItĀ“s not the pipe.
ItĀ“s not the engine.

It has to come from the clutch, one way, clutch bell, starter shaft or starter shaft bearings.

In the heli with different pipe i get the noise, off the heli on the bench i donĀ“t get it.

IĀ“m leaning towards the loose baffle, i recently rebuilt it and checked everything except that.

I suppose a loose baffle could also make the tail twitch.

IĀ“ll swap mufflers and see what happens, if it the baffle is there a solution or do i have to toss it?

Thanks

This is a OS 50 hyper on a Trex 600 at idle.
If i accelerate it disappears but when i get to flight rpm it comes back. Also the tail is twitchy.

clicking on the link will download a zip containing a .wav file

If the noise isnt affecting the flight, fly that thing till it it breaks. Then youll know
It does, the tail twitches since there is a slight decrease/increase in engine speed.
Tuning and gov is hunting , tune without gov on then recalibrate gv1
Did not do both at the same time on the same flight, i tuned with gov off, did not make the noise go away. Once tuned turning the gov on or off changed nothing.

Help me identify this noise
Hi guys,
There is this nose that is driving me nuts, the helicopter is a Trex 600 GV1, 2000 rpm running Optifuel 30%. The engine in the recording is an OS 50 Hyper, i get the same sound with a different engine, an OS 55. This means it is not the engine.

In the recording you can hear it is a pulsating noise coming from the engine over the normal engine whine, it seems like a gas engine with an electrical misfire, you can hear how it begins at 00:06 and easier to hear at 00:16

Of course when this happens i can see the tail reacting to the momentary
loss/recovery of power.

IĀ“ve changed all the plumbing in the heli even running it without a filter but nothing eliminates it. could it be the GV1?

This takes me to the next question the heli overspeeds 150-200 rpm with the governor set at 2000rpm i think that is a lot, is the GV1 so slow to react or is it bad?

Thanks for your help,

DIego

I guess it had to be the tightness or a defect, those grips were replaced a couple of months ago.

IĀ“m not into flying close to me or others, when i do tracking i do it far from me and for very short periods in the air, when i landed this one i was at least 130 feet away from it AND waited until it spooled down before approaching it.
While it was spooling down it was obvious something was very wrong, that kept me away. At the moment i thought maybe a link came loose.

ItĀ“s funny how the bottom part of the grip broke off but the top one lasted long enough for me to land, there had to be tremendous forces on that top hole at that moment.

Grips were never crashed, maybe four gallons on them.

Could over or under tightening the bolts lead to this situation? iĀ“ve been looking for reasons for this to happen since yesterday and i have no idea at all.

I was very, very lucky in sunday.
First flight of the day with a raptor 50, a few flips, a little inverted, nothing out of the ordinary for me. That is all the 3d i can manage.

Then at about half tank while hovering upright i get a weird noise and my blades go out of track, woof and poof i think so throttle hold i do, it does nothing to help the out of track condition.

Since i was hovering and high i got out of the hold and landed with power, as soon as the blades spool down a bit i see that one of them is rotating at a very weird angle, when i get close to the heli this is what i find:

The weird angle blade was only held in place by the top hole on the grip, the bolt was already completely out of the bottom hole, the other grip was fractured at the top.

The blade bushing was angled and the blade has some damage to the hole, iĀ“m not using that blade again.

The only other visible damage was that the tank came loose and was hanging out of the frame a little bit, i suppose the spindle is bent, iĀ“ll have to tear it down to be sure.

This couldĀ“ve been a complete disaster, by the looks of it iĀ“m out blades grips and spindle.

By the way, itĀ“s a v2 head all plastic running at 1900rpm

I like that idea about dremelling the lips, too late now but i will test it next time around.
It sounds to me like your trying to find an excuse to change helis
IĀ“m not tired of the raptor, i was just pissed at the trouble it gave me.
If your headspeed dropped while doing the flip stiff dampeners will cause a wobble too
The wobble continued for the rest of the flight, it was not a low headspeed issue.

I think that i might have located the problem, the collective control pitch arm was split at the back where the elevator lever is inserted, right on the thinnest part of the plastic circle, no way i couldĀ“ve seen that without taking it all apart.

The SE parts will have to wait until i go through my spares stock...

I replaced the dampeners in the new head i built, i will take both heads to the field and try them out while replacing stuff, that will be a nice experiment.

I first suspected The dampeners, they "seemed" softer the the new ones, but i could be wrong, they are the blue TT ones not OEM dampeners, of course i will use other brands when available mavrikk, klone rc etc.

How long should these dampeners last? they are not very old, maybe 6 or 7 gallons between both my machines. Well, maybe that is too much and iĀ“ve actually been lucky with them, i donĀ“t know.

Maybe a base screwed where the gyro goes, but i did not want to introduce another item to troubleshoot if needed.

Love my Raptors, but...
IĀ“ve got two Raptors, both 50 V2Ā“s when i got them they were 30V1Ā“s theyĀ“ve been forever with me and really love them, itĀ“s been cost effective, two machines same model with very little differences.

I was doing some flips and inverted the other day and when i came in close to check the fuel i noticed a vibration, more like a wobble that was not there when i took off, You know, the one you get at the first flight of the day when you eyeball the position of the blades so when you spool up it shakes until the blades reach the right position relative to the head. it was doing this while in flight.

Landed, checked the obvious, links, screws, bolts, play here and there and balance, everything was ok. Spool it up again, it shakes but it wonĀ“t stop, shut it down take it home and start taking the head apart replace everything, actually i just built a new head i get to the point where i find nothing wrong with it so i go to the main bearings.

I hate to split the frames and remove the gyro tape to check the main shaft bearings, no wonder they are all notchy and full of crap, grease them but they are gone. Hell, i thin i spent less time getting the new head back together than removing and replacing that gyro tape crap.

Now iĀ“m really considering moving to a a model that does not need such extensive disassembly to get to the bearings, of course this does not mean that i will check them more often, but at least iĀ“ll get pissed at something else.

IĀ“ll see tomorrow if all my efforts removed the shakes.
So here are the questions:
1. could the bearings be the reason for that type of shake?
2. Is there a model that fits my needs? cheap as a 50V2 to repair, bearings removable with out all that hassle.
3. Is there life in other planets?

Thanks,

Diego

sideways flight tail wag
Hi guys,

IĀ“m getting a tail wag, this only happens if i go into fast sideways flight to the left, also when turning left while doing circuits, it does not happen at all to the right. When it does this i can also hear the engine changing rpm in sync with the wagging tail, as soon as i turn the circuit or stop the sideways flight the wagging stops.

IĀ“ts a Raptor 50 with a Futaba GY502 governor is a CY ATG

what could this be?

Thanks,

Diego

Man i miss flying sooo much.
ItĀ“s been five years since my last flight, moved, started a business and stopped flying altogether. That last one was a short ferry flight, if iĀ“d known then it was going to be this long iĀ“d certainly take a longer route.

until the report comes out all we know here is that some witness heard a pop and saw the rotor coming off, that could mean lots of things. witnesses are higly prone to errors.

also, on the 22 it could also be mast bumping

come on guys, the 22 is a very good helicopter, as long as it is maintained properly and flown properly, any helicopter is a deadly machine when abused, some take the abuse more gracefully than others.

i still like to fly on them every couple of years for a biannual, itĀ“s a lot of fun and it takes you back to basics.

do you have any programs that create a virtual dvd or cd drive? for example alcohol 120%?

if you do, uninstall those programs and disable or delete the virtual drives.

that might be the solution.

guys, before you go trying things out, there are a couple of good programs to protect yourself before you make any changes.

the best that iĀ“ve tried yet is deep freeze, it will make a copy or map of your drive and restore it as it was after you reboot.
deep freeze

and the other one is "go back" but this one is a pain because it fills up the memory quite fast while working.
go back

so go wild and do all the changes you want and still keep a brand new install...

why glue blade roots?
PullPitch 10 759 11-02-2003 11:29 AM

Diego

rrApprentice

blade separation has happened many times because of this.
when you glue the root on to the blade you are actually distributing the stresses over a larger surface, the whole surface of the blade is being involved.

if you donĀ“t, the stresses are applied to 3 specific points independent of each other, and it does not include the surface on each side of the blade.

the results are simple, total destruction of your helicopter and possible personal injury or death. yes i said total destruction, as soon as one blade departs, the imbalance is so great that the helicopter just explodes.

just glue them on, it takes a few minutes and youĀ“ll be a lot safer.

that is one of the many situations where you donĀ“t want to be lazy.

what worked for me was to get it a little higher than eye level , sideways first and the letting it creep alittle at a time until it was nose in. at the first sign of loosing perspective i just brought it back to tail in.

when nose in if the heli laens to either side think that you have to prop it up with your stick, like giving it support at the lowest side of the rotor plane. that really did it for me.

macro,

get them as close as you can. it is good practice and it will do your heli good.

you can correct weight in any of those ways, using a scale (more expensive) or using a balancer.

if you're not confident at balancing, i would recommend you do the two step method. (the one you are enquiring about)

first correct the cg, so that both blade's cg is equal.
second make both blades weigh the same.

this way you make only one adjustment at a time.

when you get a bit more practice you can do the second method, that is correcting cg and weight at the same time.

both have the exact same end result, one is longer but more simple, the other shorter but needs a little tinkering.

1. battery in glow
2. is you idle set up correctly?
3. are you sure you have not hydrolocked it?
4. you can turn it by hand but not with the starter.. is your starter battery charged? if not sure use your car battery.
5. please make sure that your throttle servo is moving in the right direction, i mean be sure that low stick on your radio is carb closed. if not you're in for a nasty surprise.
6.are you using a glo plug extension? is it connected properly.

just to be sure, unplug glo plug, disconnect fuel line to carb, turn engine by hand.

try same with starter for just a second.

install gloplug, retry.

if everything turns up to this point, conect fuel line and glo heater and try again.

wait a minute, it's a starter for god's sake.

when you clean the compressor on a allison 250 c20b turbine you have to do the 15 secs on 1 min off routine...to keep the starter from melting. IT"S A REAL LIFE FULL BLOWN TURBINE FOR GOD'S SAKE...

why in hell do you manufacture a product with such a limitation intended for modelers who are known (some of us) to get impatient when an engine does not start? it should be fool proof, i am not saying that EVERYTHING should be fool proof, heck that'show natural selection works, you screw up you don't reproduce.

but it's a stupid starter!!!!

then what? we'll be getting .02sec rules on glow drivers? i think it's darn stupid.

sullivan knows about this, they've replaced some switches, why aren't these new upgraded switches standard? why do they put a switch that has such a low danger threshold? are you sure.

<>
i am not sure about this statement...has someone's switch welded itself even while following the rules?

let's see if you go to court and swear, and your flyin buddies swear that the starter was unused that day before you pressed the button for exactly 5.3secs. and then all hell broke loose... what then? better switches as standard equipment?

except the MA box art, have you seen any other pics of this heli? suppose he is legit, do you know the condition of the items for sure?

helis are a big thing in the US and you can find a lot of scammers around right? so this is no reason to trust anyone..

the bell might have some loctite in place, what i've done is grab the pinion gar with a small pressure wrench wrapped in cloth, do not tighten the wrench, just turn the screw until it grabs over the cloth.

if you dent the pinion you're screwed, now twist the bell with your hand or another wrench on the smaller diameter part where the pinion screws into.

be careful and don't dent or scratch anything.

the elevator arm might hace a little CA runoff that was probably placed to hold the metal screw in place, you might have to "convince" it to come apart. no need to cut anything...

boy, am i a happy camper....
well, it had to happen someday, i finally looped, rolled and hovered inverted, (more or less)

i finally gathered the courage to do my first loop, after that i had to land and wait for my hands to stop shaking, fueled up again and started doing beautiful loops, perfectly rounded, horizontal exit. the works.

then taking advantage of the rush, i did a couple of rolls and hovered inverted for a minute or so, not the best hover iĀ“ve done but at least i was correcting in the right direction. not pretty but inverted anyway.

then on the third flight comes the sad part, flipped inverted, and AFTER it was inverted the engine started to bog down (TT50) flipped upright but i had lost a lot of headspeed, bang, level crash into the ground and flip to the side.

funny thing is the only damage are the woodies, a bent flybar and of course a totalled landing gear. i suppose when i take it apart the spindle will need replacing. frames are ok, they were zip tied to the frames. no damage at all to the tail, the blades are not even scratched.

the impact was quite strong, i broke a couple of cooling fins on the engine and bent the bottom of the gv1 sensor mount, the 60 size one. so it was quite a hard landing. i came out cheeeeep

funny thing is, i was laughing all the way to the crash site.

thanks to all of you for your advice, even if it was not meant for me. and of course, thanks to realflight for lots of cheap practice time.

for the history inclined, there was a supersonic propeller powered plane.

take a look,

http://www.edwards.af.mil/moments/d...l/55-07-22.html

and one more question for the physics bunch, using all the data talked about here, if the bolt breaks, how far would the blade travel, letĀ“s say the helicopter was hovering at 10ft above level ground. also assume that the flying blade would not break or wobble or anything.

hey,
youĀ“re paying for the wife already, might as well use her as much as possible.

of course you wonĀ“t recover your investment, but the losses will be smaller....

as for the anodising, hell, there are so many different creams, potions and lotions at home that maybe one of them works,,,,,

a question about that diagram, on the header tank, the green line is it in the right place or should it be at the same level as the pink line?

isnĀ“t that the concept of uniflow?
if not, can you connect the header in the simple way with two lines only?

youĀ“re mixing apples and oranges here....

the 1700 refers to mah or miliampere hour
the 4.8 is the volts
get your amps and volts straight and some one else can help you...

1189 looks like mah
610 could be volts although it seems a little high for a 4.8v pack.

i have not used any of those chargers you mention so i canĀ“t help you with more...

the normal rate would be 200mah which is C/10 that would give you 12-14 hours of charge, so considering at 50mah you are putting 1/4 of C/10 you would need around 50 hours to charge it with 50mah.

thereĀ“s some very good reading here....

you guys have the terms a little confused....

conditioning is the first charge of a new battery, it is a "slow charge" at around C/10

trickle charge is even slower and it is done after a slow charge or a fast charge just to maintain the charge already given.

i donĀ“t know at what rate the trickle is given...

click on "my gallery" when youĀ“re on the reply or post window to the thread you want to post a picture to.

when you do this a new window pops upthat is your "my gallery"

as you can see at the bottom of the page there are 10 slots for pictures, you can click on browse and select the picture you want from your computer the click upload.

in a few seconds a thumbnail will appear on your gallery, at first it will be a default image saying that runryder is preparing the real thumbnail.

click on this thumbnail to open the image. close it after youĀ“re sure the pic is correct. now the thumbnail has a red stripe at the bottom menaing that you have seen the image.

when you click on this red stripe a dialog box appears with the address of that image at runryder.

copy that address ( right click copy) and then paste it into your original reply or post window (right click paste)

youĀ“ll now see the address on your post, you will not see the image until you send that reply or post.

thatĀ“s it.

you can do most of the training on planes and then do a commercial helicopter add on. that makes it a bit cheaper.

that way you get both fixed and rotor the downside is you have a lot more experience on airplanes than helicopters.

i did it that way and have no regrets.... my fixed license is judt gathering dust though.
