Are men and women in uniform don't choose the time, place and the means elected officials do. Yet when they are called upon they leave family, friends and enter into harms way to answer that call. If you disagree with the policies of the United States, don't blame our military or diminish the sacrefices that they make. After all "We the People" voted those officials in. I'd like to thank those of you who hijacked this thread and turned it into something it was not meant to be. I made this post because the video showed me that there are many Americans who still love this country and realize the price of our freedom. The showing of support, for a fallen soldier, that most did not even know was incredable. That my friends gives me hope and sometimes hope is all you have. I realize these are very troubled times. But arguing about all the politics in the world is not going to change anything here in the good old USA. If there was ever a time when all Americans needed to unite for the future of America, now is that time.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

My thoughts exactly guys, this is the America that I also believe in. Everyone that serves to protect America and freedom and pays the ultimate price should get this kind of respect. My thanks to all that have served and are currently serving.

Patriotic
Killed in action the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City , Georgia , just south of Atlanta , on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough , Georgia . A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. This was filmed during the procession by a State Trooper.

I have Real Flight and Reflex Sims and use both on a regular basis. The Sims are really nice for the off season or when the weather is just to bad to fly. Simulators are not perfect but they are a very good representation of actually flying the real thing. Even with semi realistic physics and computer gliches it's still good practice I like both Sims I mentioned above, but I'd have to say that Reflex seems to have a little better physics. But I think Real Flight is easier to use with more flight options. An example would be cockpit view (FPV) is not available in Reflex. I also prefer not to use my actual radio while flying the Sim like in Reflex. So I'd have to say that Real Flight is the Sim I use most.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Simulators do make a big difference in developing basic flying skills. It's also a good idea to put those skills to work, on the real thing, as soon as you can. I herd this many times at many fun flys if you can do it on the SIM then you can do it on the real thing. I believe that and I also think the small electric (Trex 450) Helis do quite a bit for improving flying skills also. Keep up the good work GroundMagnet.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

The only injury I've ever herd of from a neck strap is when my wife grabbed mine and tried to yank my head off so I couldn't go flying Seriously, if you fly pinch you need a neck strap and I would recommend one regardless. I usally get so caught up in flying that I don't notice what the spectators are doing unless they cross the flight line. What messes me up is when people walk up behind me and start trying to have conversations with me while I'm flying The funning thing is I can walk and chew gum at the same time. But I can't fly and talk at the same timeRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

It took me 2 attempts over the course of about half a year. I also feared that I would lose some quickness and have to learn everything all over again. I was wrong, I fly just as quick now if not quicker than I did flying with thumbs. Also, I did not have to learn everything all over again. I feel I have a lot more control now and will never go back to flying with thumbs. However having said all that, I don't think anyone can say that one is better than the other. It is a matter of personal preference. For those who desire to change just remember it will take a while to adjust and wear a neck strap If you have a simulator start flying pinch only and don't switch back and forth. How long it will take depends on how much time you spend flying or on the sim. It took me a few months, but it was not like having to learn how to fly all over again. I spent an hour a day in the sim and then things just started clicking. Just like everything else in this hobby you have to practice, practice, practice By the way my first attempt was a quick switch during a flight at the local club. It didn't work out very well so I don't recommend you try switching out of the blue. (''Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Is the danger real? The first thing every new Heli pilot should do is take a look at the Ron Kyle post at the beginning of this topic. It serves as a reminder that saftey is the responsibility of all of us.

Learning to hover in 4 positions is a good thing. But, you should also learn to do circuits and figure 8s flying backwards and upside down fowards and backwards. Not to mention flying the tail in all these different orientations. I understand the desire to do impressive 3D or aerobatics. But rushing into these manuvers without mastering the basics can be very costly. Fortuneatley, I have not ran into any pilots like the one you described pulsar110, but I'm sure there are many like him out there. Learning to setup and fly Helis is a very long and tidious process that takes a lot of patience to learn. Those of us who take the time will be in this hobby for the long haul. The others will finally get sick of spending money instead of developing pilot skills and get out.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Thanks for the advise cptsnoopy. I don't see any reason why the e620 shouldn't fly as well or better than the trex600, with the right setup I think TT did lighten up the main airframe with 80% of the parts compatable with the nitro version 50. The biggest difference between a 30 and 50 size Rapter is the power. Learning on a 50 is just as easy as a 30 size Raptor. It all depends on proper setup for a begining pilot on both. If you decide to stick with it, you won't have to upgrade to a 50 later on. Or if you decide this isn't for you, I would think you would have better luck selling a 50 size Heli vs a 30 size. I still have a 30 size Raptor that flys pretty well. But I like my 50s a whole lot better Whatever you pick remember to use good electronics, that really makes a difference. Most of all have fun. Learning to fly Helis doesn't happen over night so enjoy every aspect of it along the wayRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

It takes a lot of time to learn to fly 3D. Many of the really good pilots have been flying for years or they have the time to burn hundreds of gallons of fuel a week. The real question do you have the time and money it takes to learn to fly 3D. Not to mention the dedication of getting your butt out to fly. The less actual flight time you have the longer it's going to take to learn. I'm in this for the long haul. But finding time to fly is what's hard. Between weather, girl friend and career it's hard to get out flying. I have the guts, or at least I'm crazy enough to try 3D. The blades are not spinning fast enough to make a sonic boom. I've noticed that most of the rotor noise comes from the top of the rotor. Yes a 30 can do that but start the manuver 3 mistakes high. I have often wondered about 2 things covered in the video right after 911. How do you fit an aircraft into a 14' hole in the side of a building with windows and walls right next to it remaining in tack (Pentagon). How do you fit a Boeing 757 into a 20 by 14 foot hole in the ground with nothing left but very small pieces. It's impossible?Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

I disagree, you do not have to learn how to fly a plane before flying a Heli. I am also self taught and started in this hobby flying Helis. By using a training gear and simulator I was able to learn everything from hovering to FF and FFF. Long after learning to fly a Heli I actually flew a plain and couldn't believe how easy it was Let's face it, learning to fly Helis is hard. It takes much practice and some guts. I don't think there's many shortcuts to learning to fly one. You just have to burn a lot of fuelRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

for what ever it's worth
Your comparing apples to oranges and only one aspect hovering. I've flown both airplanes and helis and over all, helis have taken me about a 100 times longer to learn how to fly than a plane. What does that tell you? On my 3rd flight with a airplane I was doing loops, rolls and inverted flight, including inverted figure 8s. My 3rd flight with a heli was still learing how to hover in place. Logic would suggest the one that takes the longest to learn is probably the harder to fly

You said "i can do reasonably well on the simulator" like can you fly figure 8s upside down forward, backward and in both directions. Or do forward and backward hurricains. The reason I ask is after flying upside down quite a bit you know what the Helis going to do and what stick movements you need to make, to get it to do want you want. The G2 Raptors fly realistic enough so you should not have any surprizes while flying the real thing. You can also modify the 30 and 60 to be a 50 and 90 complete with trim schemes from the G2 website Gravity acts a little funny on G2, but that's really the only thing that stands out Make copies of the 30 and 60 so you can modify them and create a 50 and 90.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

You can do 3D with a 30 but it's never going to perform like a 50 or 90. The power to weight ratio just isn't there. There are mods and upgrades you can do that will improve performance. The object is to have fast servos coupled with a very stiff head so you will have a very crisp cyclic. But you'll still find the 30 will bog on you quite a bit until you learn collective management.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Should be pretty easy to find info on the Internet for the T-Rex. Here's a couple of links, one of them is for the electric section here on RR. Do a google search on T-Rex and you'll probably get more information then you'll ever need. I'm considering getting one myself

We have no special rules other than when someone yells :Landing, you give them the room they need. It's basically a free for all with the understanding that pilots (Heli and Plane) need to communicate with the other pilots in the air. Pilots not flying need to make sure that they pass messages down the flight line so everyone knows what's going on. Yes there will always be someone who doesn't follow the rules or they just don't know how to fly. It's mostly common sense, not an attribute every poseses. So far we have not had any mid airs with Heli vs Planes Now planes and Helis vs ground that's another storyRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

I have the add-on with the Raptors for G2 and yes they are tweaked out quite a bit. I have setup a Raptor 90 with Alan's paint job and the best part is it flys like his 90 too The question is how do you get the real Heli to perform like the sim one?? Answer is, you have to get the right equipment on the real Heli to make it capeable of doing 3D. Buying the cheapest servos and using wood blades isn't going to do it for you. Plus the Heli needs to be setup correctly.. Growing some rocks doesn't hurt ethierRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

No guts, No glory There's nothing to loose in the sim. Anything you do in the sim should be able to transfer over to the real thing. but ask yourself this. How much flight time do you have in the sim versus the real thing. You have your sim Heli which you spend hours a day on and then you have the real thing with a lot less flight time I think that's a big part of why most of us are ahead in the sim compared to the real thingRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Go with a 50 or 90 because of the power to weight ratio is better than the 30 or 60 or even a 70 for that matterRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Start by flying upside down and backwards. Start banking in the direction you want to funnel in. Build up some speed, don't over pitch. Bring the tail down slowly and keep the Heli banked enough so it doesn't climb or descend. Don't get the circle too tight or over pitch because you won't be able to hold it in Once you find the groove you don't have to make many adjustments.Raptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Focus on the basics, learn to fly the Heli at every possible angle including inverted. Autos are a must Loops are fine, just don't move the tail. Rolls are a little harder to do especially if you using a 30 size Heli. You may want to try some in place flips and rolls high up just in case you get into trouble. Try not to get too crazy comig out of loops I've almost crashed a couple of times trying to get too creative at the top of a loopRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Forward flight is easier that hovering, less to worry about. The hard part is turning. Do slow FF and practice turning right and left. The slower the Heli is flying the less bank you use when turning. Once you've done it you'll agree it's easier than hoveringRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Voyager E question
I've had a Voyager E for a long time and made my first attempts at forward flight with it. I gotten about 10 flights on it before I moved into nitro Helis. Now I'm at the point of learning aerobatics and 3D. My question is can the Voyager E do aerobatics and 3D. Before you ask me a lot of questions remember I know very little about electric. I got hooked on nitro, but would still like an electric or two to fly in smaller fields. The Voyager I have was bought used and looks like it's standard with a hacker brushless motor upgrade with wood blades. Can I attempt aerobatics with it? or what upgrades might I need to get. Plus anyone know where to get some good fiberglass or carbon blades for the Voyager E. Any recommendations on servos, batteries, blades and other mechanical upgrades for aerobatics and 3D would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Do you have the usb controller that comes with G2. If so I'd use that, it's easier to setup than a real radio. Setup a real radio with G2 can be a nightmare. It's been a while since I used my JR 6105 with real flight, let me try setting it up tonight and I'll try to get back to you. Unless of course somebody else answers your post first. What kind of radio do you have? It's got to have a least 7 channels . A 4 channel airplane radio won't work with a Heli.

Your talking about adding EXPO and/or Dual Rates to your transmitter to make it less sensitive or decrease the amount of throw. That's done in the radio setup. Are you using the usb controller or your actual transmitter. Which one will determine where you have to make the changes. I think for software radio the EXPO/DR is the first screen "Edit software radio", you can set the EXPO for ailerons, elevators and rudder. You will need to add EXPO to the ailerons and elevator. And on the actual radio it depends on what brand JR, Futaba, Airtronics you have.

G2 does have a Heli with a training gear on it. The Impala (30 training heli). Is that what you want to know? As for setup, the throttle and pitch curves are the same for normal mode as a Heli without a training gear. It's best to get rid of the training gear as soon as you can. They are a real pain, but do help out on your first hovering flights on the real thing. I wouldn't spend too much time in the sim with the training Heli. It would be best to get used too flying without itRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

you still have to make minor attitude corrections no matter what your trying to do. In a perfect world the heli would flip or roll without having to make any other adjustments. With rolls you not only have to worry about collective management, but pitch and yaw corrections as well. The same is true of flips, you have to make aileron and yaw corrections. Doing stationary flips and rolls is great practice for collective and cyclic management. Defineately worth spending time on in the simRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

Learn the basics first before attempting any 3D or aerobatics. You should be able to hover at any orientation and fly forward, backward, sideways and upside down. Then it's time to start thinking about 3D and YES take baby steps. Build your skills and confidence at a reasonable pace People's safety are more important than your Heli isRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620

I've got a stock Raptor 30 that was my first Heli. It's a little over a year old. I been tweaking it (engine tuning, pitch curves,ect...) for the last few months and was suprised at the performance i got out of it. In fact, I like flying it better than my 50s Any moves I'm trying for the first time or anything I feel uncomfortable with, I do on the 30 first. Well over a 100 flights and about the only thing it can't do is put itself back together Alan's Raptor 30 video is awesome as is all his videos That guy can fly and he's probably inspired more Heli pilots then he reallizesRaptor 30, Raptor 50, Raptor 50#2, E620
