I just looked at the manual and it does say "Practical rpm 2,000-15,000rpm".

However it also says "Select a good quality propeller that will turn in the 9,000 to 11,000 rpm range."

I'd be skeptical on how long that motor will run above 12k rpms. I'm not saying it won't... I've just never heard of anyone running them over 11.5k.

Here's one for ya... I ordered a boom kit set and put one boom on the machine. I got to installing the tail gearbox and noticed it was leaning to the right. Come to find out the hole on the back of the boom was punched in the wrong spot. I put the other boom on it and it lined up just fine.

Now how's this for parts... I ordered a landing gear set and a skid set. NEITHER parts bag includes the small set screws that screw into the landing gear to hold the skids into place.

You'll like the 700 Matt. I've been flying one this year too.

I had a 2n1 on mine but then had a problem where the wires broke inside the case. As a precaution I replaced it with an Arizona Regulator and a Switchglo Pro.

Some of you guys are going way overboard... buy the kit, build it and fly it. If a problem presents itself address it then. There's no reason to scare others away from buying this kit.

Of course if you beat the living crap out a heli things are going to break... that holds true for ANY kit and it's not always going to be the same part for everyone.

Also, this is the first I've heard about a clutch liner issue. Remember, opinions are like assholes... everyone has one including myself.

How fast can a Trex 700 fly?
How many times have you been asked how high or how fast can your heli go?

Well today I was able to answer the how fast question. Our club put on a community airshow today and the cops showed up with their radar guns to check the speed of the fast airplanes. The fast airplanes were flying right before I was to do a helicopter demo. The fastest airplane was checked at 105mph. I thought I could compete with that.

I started off my heli demo with a high speed pass and the cop checked it at 78mph!

Now we can answer the how fast question when it is asked.

I ordered the Quick UK Ball Links set today... I have about 12-14 gallons on my Trex 700 and the ball links are super sloppy.

The link set was pricey at $50 but I figure if it saves a crash it's well worth it. After all a set of blades are $125.

Just to add some credibility to my case... I've worked in the small engine industy for nearly 20 years. I'm the last guy people come to when they are having problems tuning an engine simply because they need not to see anyone else. That's why I said "I always love to read the comprehensive break in procedures of others". It's always someone like yourself spreading the word because you heard from someone else who has credentials. No pun intended.

Also I'll say theres absolutly nothing wrong with doing it your way. I'm just saying it doesn't have to be done that way. All your doing is delaying the break in process and wasting good fuel in the process.

THIS said, engines treated this way never develop their absolute power capability because the fit of the ring and sleeve is never optimized through a more methodical, patient break in

I always love to read the comprehensive break in procedures of others... read the owners manual for the engine, set the needle to the recommended break in settings, set the needles to this and GO FLY! Hell, bang the crap out of it if you like!

The only reason you'd want to take it easy the first couple flights is to ensure the engine doesnt die and leave you with a banged up airframe.

Meth #1, you have to run a new engine slooopy rich for break in. False... slightly rich is always better than lean but you dont have to be so rich that you burn up glow plugs.

Meth #2, you have to baby an engine for 2-3 gallons. False... the engine will break-in over a period of 5-8 gallons so just FLY IT! You're not going to speed up the break in time by taking it easy so why waste fuel doing it.

The only thing that will hurt a new engine is running it lean. To ensure you aren't to lean simply put your finger on the inside of the backplate of the engine after 2-3 minutes run time. If you can not hold it there for 4-5 seconds then you are to lean.

Running an engine too rich will actually delay the break in procedure. FACT! The engine needs to get up to normal temps for the piston and ring to expand and wear into the cylinder.

First flight... ring on swash falls out.
On my maiden flight of my new Trex 700 I see something shinny that just didn't look right. When I landed I noticed the bottom ring on the swash plate had fallen out of the swash.

Anyone else seen this before?

If you have the gyro setup right, you might never have a problem. So many people ascribe to that "crank it up till tail wag then back a hair" that should have gone out with the Bee Gees and then they rant that their tail servo burned up.
I do just the opposite... I turn it down until it won't hold anymore and then crank it up a percent or two.

But you are correct in saying that an improper setup can and will burn up a servo real fast.

The last thing you want to do on a CCPM heli is short cut the servos with a cheap, 3 pole motor servo. Spend the money and get a good coreless motor servo and you will notice a huge difference.

If using the Align 2n1 regulator you really don't need a step down. The Align is regulated to 5.78 volts which equals that of a fully charged 4.8v nicad pack.

I've been running my GY611/9256 without the stepdown for about 3 months without problems.

I'm running an Align 2n1 with a GY611/9256 combo. I do NOT use a step down and have yet to have any problems.

A fully charged Futaba 4.8v 600mah rx pack reads 5.8 volts off the charger. The Align 2n1 outputs 5.78 volts. You do the math...

I use the Cellpro 4S charger. Its around 80 bucks, has a built in balancer and can charge up to 5 cells at 4 amps.
I also use the Cellpro however it's called a 4S for a reason. It will only do 4S not 5S.

I also use the Align 2n1 but for batteries I use two Thunder Power 2s 1320mah packs. This gives me a total of 2640mah but more importantly it gives me a redundant battery source in case a cell goes bad, etc.

As for servos save your money and buy some good servos. Futaba 9252's are great for the price and will work well. I'm using Hitec 6965's and they are awesome in the 600. Bottom line, you want a good coreless servo with good speed.

Shame on Align
Why is this shame on Align? Over speeding the head isn't Align's fault!

Looking at the pics again it appears that the one blade failed and was thrown from the heli. The other blade was probably spinning so out of balance that the blade grip broke. After all the other grip is still intact and even has the bolt through it.

BAM! There it is... the blade failed. Shame on those blades!

If your problem wasn't blade failure it was pilot error for doing fast climbs and descents without a governor.

So honestly answer this... were you in idle up and doing a fast decent with 100% throttle on the negative side of that curve? If the answer is yes then you simply over speed the head causing the damage. Meaning there is nothing wrong with the plastic grips but merely your judgment not to use a governor.

I run mine at 2100 with the plastic grips and beat the crap out of it. So far no problems, knock on wood.

I however use a governor and the most it's recorded was 2150. I think one could easily over speed the head enough to cause problems without a governor. Especially in a big decent!

Align 2n1 won't ignite glow plug... it's dead.
I bought an Align 2n1 at IRCHA and it's worked great until today. I bought a larger battery so I removed the 2n1 from the heli trying to remount it all. When it was reinstalled I noticed the ignitor won't work anymore. All it does when I push the button is turn red then quickly goes off.

I put a volt meter on the wires and it simply won't put anything out on the glow plug side. Anyone else ran into this yet?

Hitec servos? Nah...save them for a plank
I have Hitec 6965's in my 600N. very nice servos however I agree, the 5645 won't make a great heli servo. While they are digital they still have a 3 pole motor which means more slop around center. You want a good coreless motor servo for CCPM.

I was having similar problems... changed the blade grips and a new spindle and problem fixed. The grips were really loose.

Do me a favor and look on the top of your grips and see if there is an "A" or a "B" stamped into them. My old ones had the A while the new ones had the B. I think they updated the grips and this is how you tell if you have the newer ones.

Align carbon paddles, same part number two very different paddles.
I ordered two sets of white carbon paddles. Both have the same part number but these paddles are very different.

One set weighs 13 grams and the other set weighs 20 grams. One set is much smaller in size but the odd thing is both sets have the same part number.

H60170T is the part number.

BTW, my vpaddles weigh 15 grams just for comparison and the stock paddles weigh 17 grams.

Anyone else run into this yet?

Blades won't track consistently... found the problem.
I have had a hard time getting my blades to track properly since day one. One minute they are in track and the next minute they are out of track.

I replaced the damnpers, then upgraded them to the ones with the sleeve. Still no luck. Lastly I put a new spindle in and replaced the blade grips. The old grips had an "A" stamped into them. The new ones have a "B" stamped on them.

Now my tracking is consistent and much better. The head is much tighter and now I'm happy.

Just an FYI if anyone else is having a tracking issue. Ultimately I think it was the blade grips because the old ones were really loose and the new ones are tight.

Made an 8 year old's day... I let him fly my Trex 600.
I thought I'd make an 8 year olds day by letting him fly my Trex 600. He's flying airplanes and doing great so I asked him... you ever fly a heli. He said no but I have on the sim. I said let's go your gonna fly my heli.

Having never flown a real heli before the stick time on the sim immediately was noticable. He did a great job and we were having fun but like a dummy I didn't think about fuel. We ran out just as an airplane flew past and I didn't notice it until almost to late. I took back control and slammed full negative and auto'd it to the ground. I had just enough left to turn a major crash into one that only broke the landing gear and the tail fin.

So it cost me about $30 in parts but I know I made that boys day. These young kids are simply amazing and the sim is making them do it so much younger. Eariler this year I took two boys, ages 8 and 10 and let them fly my Extreme Flight Yak... both made me look bad.

So do you use the ATV to set your gain instead of using the built in gyro settings?

If you set AUX2 to GYRO then you'll get another menu for setting the gyro gain in the radio.

Hold down the ENT button and power on the radio. Then select the DeviceSEL option. Toggle over to the OUT: area under the GEAR and select GOV.

This will give you a governor option in the settings however you really should have the gyro plugged into AUX2.

Isn't the pro and super pro the same heli? The super is just more of a ready to fly version right?________________

I bought the kit from Ricks when they were giving away the Mavrick G5 blades with it. Anyway I'm quite impressed with these blades. They are cheaper and they do a good job.________________

Love the Trex 600 but hate the governor mounting...
I was flying today and had the fan break loose... I didn't use a piston lock when I tightened the nut however I'm kinda glad it did because when I removed the engine I found that my GV1 sensor was rubbing the fan.

Like I said I love the Trex 600 but I hate how they sank the sensor like they did. For one I had to remove all four servos just to get to it more easily and secondly there isn't an easy way to set the gap for the sensor.

Anyone have an easy way to mount the sensor?

Nicad, Nimh, Lipo or any battery 4.8 volts is still 4.8 volts.

I run a 2s1p Thunder Power 1320mah pack in my Trex 600 but I have it regulated to 5.3 volts. I have a GY611 gyro with a 9256 on the tail and a 9254 on the throttle so I can't run 6 volts to them servos.

Mine rubs the pins at top and hits the frame at the bottom. Also rubs the collar on the main shaft at the bottom.________________

I have two kits sitting here. One is 22.98mm and the other is 23.46mm. Mind you both are on the helis so they are a little harder to accurately measure.________________

I have read that Futaba does not recommend using 6 volts on its servos. I don't know about Hitec??
There are only a couple of servos that are rted for 4.8v use ONLY. These are usually the gyro servos.

Most are rated for both 4.8v and 6.0v.

Mine are about 23mm... I just messed with mine some and just cut down the aileron/elevator throw with the CCPM mixing.

Aileron 45
Elevator -45
Collective 60

I'm using a JR9303 radio. Hopefully I didn't take out to much throw... I still have about 8 degress on cyclic. I'll know tomorrow after a couple of flights.

GV1 Questions...
Just flew my Trex 600 today for the first time. WOW, I like it.

Anyway I set my GV1 to run at 2100 but when I landed the max rpm was only 1940. I did set the limits on the throttle.

It's a brand new OS50 Hyper with a MP2 muffler running CY30% fuel. The high speed needle is at 1.5 turns out.

So what HS are you guys running and what can I do to get mine up higher?
