Gyro getting stuck?
I know somewhere in recent past I read somewhere, likely here or one of the heli Facebook pages that sometimes a fbl gyro can get stuck and that tapping on the case can free it up. Can anyone verify this?
I actually had it happen on an old AR7200BX. Servo worked normal with the radio but was getting no response from the gyro. It had been flying fine all season. I got it out to fly a few days ago and tail gyro was unresponsive. After trying all kinds of stuff including a factory reset nothing helped. Thinking on it overnight I recalled reading they could get stuck so first thing in the morning I fired it all up. It was still unresponsive but after a few taps on the case with a small screwdriver handle it started working again. Obviously it could have been a poor connection somewhere or something and the tapping got the connection working again.
I really like these units on my glow helis but they are hard to come by these days. I hate to toss it but I don’t want it on my heli if it might quit on me again. Too much to risk.

Thanks, Matt

Stupid people have no idea how stupid they are!!!

Ahh Facebook, the experts of experts.

Gyros nowadays are solid state, unless you go back to the VERY old Futaba gyros that actually spin up. So if a gyro starts working because you thumped it, you have a bad solder joint and that heli is a crash waiting for the proper place to happen

What you're hearing about is the accelerometers on some gyros (Neo, Brain 2) with rescue getting stuck, tapping them will sometimes free it back up. Those sensors are mechanical, not solid state. It does nothing for general gyro use, just the frozen rescue. Don't think that's the case with your gyro, I suspect you have something else going on, I wouldn't fly that gyro.

If you are curious, here is a post on Vstabi that talks about the issue. Don't think it applies to you though. https://www.vstabi.info/forum/read.php?64,187643,187717

Mechanical failure...

You don't have to hit the FBL unit looking for a "better connection".
You only need to replace it.
