Recommended helicopter mechanics for a FUNKEY Agusta 109A .30 / 550 size scale fuselage kit
Help please! I have just obtained a new Funkey Agusta .30/550 scale fuselage and have been trying to decide which helicopter mechanics to use. This will be my first semi scale model. I favour the newish Align Trex Dominator 550Xt but wonder if it will go in. From the limited drawings available I think that the electronics frame might be marginal under the cockpit and the tail boom will definitely need some modifications. The Trex Dominator 500X should fit easily and there are reasonable cost 4 blade rotors available for that size, but is it really too small? If anyone out there has gone through this conundrum and can advise me I would be really grateful.

For your project, trex 550E, electric, should fit without problems.

You need to decide what rotor mechanism you will use... I mean, flybarred, standard flybarless, DFC flybarless. Etc, because main shaft length could be a problem to keep dimension according to scale fuselage.

Other potential problem is the conversion glow to electric on the fuselage. Probably, you will need to cut something for better batt instalation.

Thanks Rojoalfa,
Today I am trying to mock up a scale Trex 550 frame in board by scaling photos etc. It is looking to be very tight in the fuselage.

I was only considering a standard flybarless rotor system. With an eventual 4 blade rotor and lower rpm the DFC may be asking for problems - although they do look nice :-))
The fuselage needs little or no mods for battery mounting. In fact the mods for a glow (Hirobo .30 Shuttle), according to the instruction sheet, involves a lot more fuselage cutting.

If anyone out there has a Trex 550 fuselage on the bench and could measure the maximum height, width and depth, I could verify the dimensions I have scaled from pictures.

Meanwhile it looks as though I have plenty of time to decide as there are no stocks of Align Trex 550 anywhere this side of the world.

Best wishes
