What is a typical range of a 2.4 g radio ?
I am about to do my first hexacopter drone build and planning to use my Aurora 9X radio / receiver. Just wondering if anyone knows the 'safe' range for our heli radios ( not talking about the DJI phantoms) .
Thanks

Well... This is a regulated matter.

Some Tester said 2.5 miles, 4 kilometer.

The first thing you need to assure is batteries... And of course, the function "return home" habilited.

My experience has shown that the control radio range practically is as far as you can actually see your vehicle. However, a real problem occurs if you are flying FPV. The FPV transmitter can typically transmit farther than you can see, and farther than the control radio can connect. The obvious result is that you can see where you are at/where you are going but can no longer control the vehicle. You become a spectator. That is why you definitely need a spotter when flying FPV, The spotter can yell in your ear when the vehicle is getting too far out. I've seen this happen a couple of times. The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

back around 2007-2008 when 2.4ghz changeover got going in a big way there use to be a company XPS that made high end equipment and they use to advertise their equipment was good out to 5 miles. Much of their stuff was used in the early military UAS/DRONE program. I never used it but
looked into it because Futaba was dragging their feet and basically gave the 2.4 market to Spectrum/JR.

The height of the object is important. Line of sight at a high altitude will be much further than a low altitude.JR Vibe 90 FB YS120, JR XG8 JR E8 FBL - Tags01
