Oh boy that is taken me back year ago. I'm talking back in the early 90's adding more synthetic oil back then. Today fuel ( VP ) has plenty of oil.
I still have 4 pints bottle of Klotz 100% pure synthetic unopened. That I used to use to add to my fuel. My VP fuel 30% has 23% oil in it.
So if I needed to add I would use Klotz.

In addition to glo engines, I use Klotz in all my fixed wing and heli gasoline engines. For that matter, I use Klotz in my chain saws, weed whackers, and any other 2 cycle gasoline engine. The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Beyond what oil to use, you might ask if you really need to add more oil to your fuel in the first place. I mix my own fuel and buy Klotz in 55 gallon drums. I can mix whatever oil content I choose. I typically mix 14% oil fuel which is likely less than the fuel you already using.

Sooo.... I like Klotz and recommend it (but question if you really need it).

Good question.

In my country, the choice is base on costs.

Klotz is Cheaper.
Castor is very Expensive.

So, we blend not for fun... It is a matter of costs.

20 years ago I was mixing a lot of fuel. I needed more oil and called Klotz to order 2 drums of synthetic oil. Klotz pointed out that if I order 3 drums, shipping was free.

At the same time this was happening folks were telling me they wanted castor oil in their fuel. I asked them why they believed that and the general answer was, "they read it on the internet". "Nothing protects against a lean run like castor." I told them that I will mix fuel with castor for them but they likely won't like it... Wouldn't listen. Gotta have castor.

So while I was on the phone with Klotz ordering 2 drums of synthetic, I added a drum of Klotz Benoil castor (freight charges for drums of oil isn't cheep).

Here comes the punch line... I mixed fuel for a short while with castor and who would have guessed it, but, folks didn't like it. I was told castor isn't really needed and just makes a mess (Hmmm... I think I told them that.) Anyway. Now I'm stuck with 50 gallons of castor. I've periodically given gallons away to friends and sometime I mix fuel with some castor because I like the smell. It also helps get rid of it. I'm down to about 30 gallons and will likely die with 20 gallons still in the shop.

I agree, Klotz synthetic is great in our fuel.
As for castor oil, I like to add a small percentage (2 or 3%). I found early on that I suffered no bearing rusting when using castor lube fuels, specially when using muffler pressure. I did not like the mess it left after a flight, or the the coking on the engines and mufflers.
As I wasn’t experiencing this with the synthetic fuels, I started testing and experimenting. Over time I found that using just 2 or 3% castor, and the rest synthetic, would result in little coking, not much difference in aircraft clean up but very negligible bearing rusting.

Can't disagree with any of that. I too sometimes add 2-3% castor, especially to non-helicopter fuels. And I do so for the same reason - that is, corrosion protection.

I used to add some castor to heli fuels but haven't done so for a while. The muffler is so large on a helicopter and helis sorta stew in their own juices. My mufflers were getting spottier than I like and even if the oil package is only 3% oil I found it was a lot stickier on the chassis of the model than straight synthetic, especially if I let it sit a long time. The final straw is that most of my helis now use OS's DRS carbs and have Magnum center glide bearings. There is no muffler pressure and no rear bearing to corrode. There as a coming together of unrelated events that has made me stop using castor in heli fuel.

Now that we are talking about it I feel like mixing a few gallons up. I miss the smell.

IMHO, A "resin-free" Castor oil is essential for our motors.
Castor oil doesn't burn out from the combustion.

In my case, my mix is:

1/3 Castor oil
2/3 Klotz

18% oil, 5% nitro, 77% methanol. - - > my helis

Very clean combustion...

I think you could part-off an entire forum dedicated exclusively to model fuels. Everyone seems to have a fuel they like and an idea of what is required. Me? I'm a 14% straight synthetic guy but I've moved past trying to change people's minds. If a modeler finds a fuel blend they like based on an oil package of Hawaiian Tropic Sun Tan Oil, who am I to say they are wrong?

But it will smell rather Sexy!! - Much better that a 30% nitro, "fly it like you stole it" blend

Yes... That is correct.

We just only know that the "dream formula" contain :

Methanol
Castor oil
Synthetic oil
Nitro
Colorants
Other...

Proportion?...

Who knows...
