I use the Stator Gator with the GV-1. The Stator Gator takes the place of the GV-1 sensor which, in normal installations, senses a magnet imbedded in cooling fan bottom. Do a search here on RR for the particulars of hooking up the Stator Gator. The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

You can also buy a sensor mount and install it to pick up the magnet on the flywheel

Why do you want to use a governor sensor on a gasser? Just asking...That sweet smell of "Nitro"

Same reason you’d use one in any helicopter, so a governor can control the headspeed.

I use a GV1 sensor using the mount that Gas Powered Helicopters sells. Works perfectly for the last 3 years. In previous gassers I used a Stator Gator, they worked fine as well but I don’t think they’re being made anymore.

Yes I understand what you mean. It just seams like its too much head speed for me. I guess because I don't fly fast 3D moves. I disconnected mine on a gasser Spectra and I feel more comfortable at a lower head speed. But everyone has their own opinion. Thanks for the answers.Take careThat sweet smell of "Nitro"

Having a governor does not mean you have to run high head speed or fly 3D. My low speed has the governor maintaining 1300rpm. It’s just easier having it adjust the throttle to whatever is required based on how the head is loaded.Nick Crego

Hey Eury, so I can set the governor to a lower rpm? I think the one I had on my gasser was reading 2500 , not sure . So if thats the case then I think having it set around 1300- 1500 would be great. Anyway the gasser that I got this year had a governor mounted to the heli, and when it got around half throttle the engine was screaming. Wow I thought the throttle servo was going bad. It was CRAZY, so I disconnected the governor and I had better control.I am going to read on setting the governor and give it a shot.....Thanks brotherThat sweet smell of "Nitro"

Remember, the GV-1 is a governor not a 'fly by wire'. For the GV-1 to work correctly, the Head speed should be near the speed you want to fly at, by the correct setting of the Pitch and Throttle curves.. Once you have this head speed setting you need, the GV-1 switched in should keep it there. Don't expect the GV-1 to regulate the head speed up from super slow or down from ballistic fast to the to your chosen speed you want for flying. In that instance it will probably either not cut in or keep dropping out!

Great note DG,so I would want to set it for flying ,not just hovering at a low head speed. ThanksThat sweet smell of "Nitro"

Ideally, for the GV-1 to work effectively, the models I had (pre electric) needed to fly well without the Governor. I had a 'normal' curve for Hover and 'Idle-up' for flying.. (2 different head speeds) This setup worked well for the GV-1. What I am saying is you cannot have any old rubbish Pitch/throttle curves and expect the GV-1 to give you the exact RPM you need. The RPM's you want, need to be dialled in and the GV-1 will then hold that speed once switched in..
