Registration I was good and registered my heli with the FAA when it started to become obligatory. Nobody has asked me what my number is, no one has checked on me and no one has looked at me helis to see if I have the number inside. Now I am getting reminders to pay up again. Is anybody renewing? Has anybody actually been asked officially to see the number inside their machine? I'm wondering it is worth the bother. What do you guys think?Peter Wales http://scalehelicopters.org |

in the event you cause harm to someone or object of value they will be interested in id numbers, until then there's no cause for concern, my firm belief. That way you can't run and evade prosecution should an investigation ensue as a result of misadventure while operating your cool toy, wouldn't you agree.Likewise get signed waivers if you are going to be flying near people and/or expensive things if not covered by a recognized organisation and record all vocal warnings just in case demonstrating "due care".be well. |

Good Laws, Bad Laws... Should we choose which we will obey?? Parking restrictions - Covid Social Distancing - Flying Toy registration - where should it end?? We all have these same discussions! To not obey, just because you don't agree is the thin edge of the wedge towards anarchy don't you think Peter?? I agree there are too many rules on all sorts of stuff, but the stupid or arrogant would do whatever the hell they wanted without them.BTW - I too have paid my registration here in the UK - It's £9.00 for us!!DGhttps://www.facebook.com/scale.skids.52 |

dgoss999 To not obey, just because you don't agree is the thin edge Allowing the government to continue to make exponentially further reaching choices for you "in your best interest" is the REAL thin line in any civilization. We sent the last of the British packing on October 19 of 1781 with the Battle of Yorktown in our fight which ultimately established our democracy.... and I assure you there are enough patriots here to stand up to our very own domestic oppressors should the time come again. It's not one single act that triggers a war that is to blame, but a culmination of many. And most of the time that last act is quite insignificant on its own. That being said, ours is in fact a nation of laws. As it needs to be. REASONABLE LAWS and their enforcement are a necessary part of every society. But as with everything else, left unchecked they begin to reach beyond well intentioned and turn oppressive. Now, don't get me wrong. I by no means intend to imply that a few hundred helicopter nerds like us are going to start a revolution based on a $5 fee to play with our toy helicopters. But your tone suggesting everyone would do well to follow the ever growing rules placed on us "because they said so" struck a chord way over on my fighting side.Signature |

Peter my friend...a voice from the past....I too paid up.Our club field ( http://www.goldcountryflyers.com )is located on County owned land. Should an accident occur and the pilot (a member of our club and flying from our flying field) not have both the required AMA and FAA registration it would clearly jeopardize our use of the County dirt. Therefore, with the full knowledge of the County, we make it mandatory that all club members have both AMA and FAA registration. BTW, the use of the club field is not public; it is restricted to club members only. The only experience that I personally have had regarding FAA registration is at the annual Castle West Coast Giant Scale Fly In. To fly at this 400 entered pilots event you must present both your AMA card and your FAA license when preregistering and then then again when signing in. Per the rules of each the AMA and FAA, the AMA number must be on or in the model being flown and the FAA number must be displayed somewhere on the model where it can be read without disassembly or the need for tools. The event staff inspects every model to insure these requirements are met.For those who think the FAA registration requirement is superfluous to solving any problem, I doubt that I disagree. However, everyone reading this likely to have a clear understanding how dangerous a R/C model can be. In any serious incident involving property damage and/or bodily injury you can bet all the legal documents in the law suit against you will abundantly point out how the accident was 100% your fault due to flying with faulty equipment, in a reckless manner, and with total disregard to the law as illustrated by you ignoring the Federally required FAA license. And, finally, do you really think that the AMA insurance will cover you when it comes down to it if you don't have your FAA?The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for. |

helitom And, finally, do you really think that the AMA insurance will cover you when it comes down to it if you don't have your FAA? Last I saw from the AMA was it was not there issue to enforce the FAA rules and they were taking a hands off approach about itThats like saying your car insurance wont cover you in a drunk driving caseageing is manditory maturity is optional |

IF.. IF.. some knuckle head flys his drone into the side of a jet and brings it down.. do you think your registration is going to save you ass..NOPE.. not a chance.. EVEN IF YOU CAN PROVE you paid.. They are going to do what the hell they want.. lets face it.. they got you to pay them a fee didn't they...I will wait for Johnny Law to come knocking...THE ONLY WAY I will pay is if it cuts into my fun.(limits my attendance at events). I have.. we all have.. pissed away more money than that.. so thats not the issue..GrimMichael J Zaborowski Futaba USA AMA 124909 IRCHA 5453 Find me on Parlor |

No one has ever asked to see my FAA number. It is attached to my models next to my AMA number.I completed the FAA renewal process. IMHO the small fee is insignificant relative to the problems not having it could potentially cause. |

going down the list of responders, I notice the brits on here responding willingly and eagerly volunteered to pay up their fees and bragged about being a "nation of laws". How's that BREXIT thing going, only been over 2 years and you're still wedded to the EU? Don't think your betters give a wink about your laws as long as they have their privilege. Over here some of us still practice dissent and challenge our officials even when they steal our elections.
So for now I will pay the $5 to keep the rules weenies at bay as I'm travelling in motorhome and flying as a visitor at various fields. I do know the parks and rec directors are all tuned into the FAA junk here in FLORIDA as a result of the Cape Coral flying field brush fire about 5 years ago after a jet crashed during a drought. Most fields I visit in central FLORIDA have signs and rules about AMA & FAA requirements.RapRexSynLogo Pilot |
