Hobby wing esc
Hi guys been a few. Curious to know what type of Hobbywing esc some of you guys may have been using in your setup as I’m considering getting one along with my scorpion 4035-450. As always thanks!

Well... For this kind of motor, 450 kV, you can manage a lot of configurations.

From 80 amps ESC with 12S to whatever high amp ESC with 6, 10 and 12S.

If you give us more information, maybe we can help you.

Hi, well I’ve had my eye on the 120 and 130 hobbywing esc. I fly smooth so nothing to wild. Really don’t need something to expensive or overkill. Just trying to get a good idea for this particular brand as I’ve seen good reviews on this ESC. I appreciate it.

In that case, with this 450kv motor and 12S, you can manage an ESC of 120 amps... Quite enough for your fly style.

Rotor/motor rpm ratio is a concern. Get the proper size according to your fly style.

Your Freya is going to spend no more than 80 amps, your motor is going to run fresh and your wallet is going to be happy.

Excellent! Was leaning that way with this esc. What battery arrangements would you recommend with this setup, thank you!

Let me tell you something... A series 700 helicopter like Freya with 12S, is the right choice.

I noticed the Hobbywing 120 was rated up to 6s, how would I be able to use this if needing a 12s battery. Could I arrange two 6s batteries by chance?

No. You can't.

The problem is the motor kV.

For 450 kV, you need 12s

For 6s, you will need the double kV... 1100 kV.

It a pity hobbywing 120 esc can't handle 12s.

I see, thought that would be an issue, may just look into an 130 or perhaps another brand. If you had any other suggestions such as another esc I’d definitely listen, just watching how much I’m spending. Thanks again.

It is not easy to talk about brands.

I like castle creation ESC.
Easy to program.

Kontronik and turnigy, out of the selection ( one is too expensive and the other is cheaper)

Scorpion ESC... Mmm... BTW, I like scorpion motor.

Hobbywing ESC. Good for drones and toys.

Hello, I converted my Freya 2 years ago.
I run 12s 5000mAH, It sports a Kontronic pyro 750 450kv, 10 tooth pinion and I use a CC phoenix 160. Castle works great for me, super simple to program, reliable- wouldn't want to go cheaper. No free wheeling but no need on the setup. I can get 8 minutes (could probably go 10 safely) of flight time. When the bird comes down, everything is cool to the touch! And a 12s electric Freya can be 13+ Lbs!
