Esc, motor, battery
Hello! I have an older Eagle 2 sitting around. I’ve given thought about getting it back up flying again but doing some kind of electric conversion on it. So my question is what should I consider for a proper esc, motor type and batteries for it. Mild flying style. Done with nitro and this heli has the older aluminum frames. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hirobo Eagle 2
60 class helicopter

I going to do general calculation to see what we need.

Requeriment :
2.5 HP,  1862 watts

ESC :
Using a lipo 22.2 volts, 6S
1862 watts = 22.2 volts * 84 amps
Using two lipo 22.2 volts, 12S
1862 watts = 44.4 volts * 42 amps

6S
You need a ESC of 120 amps running at about 70% stick.

12S
You need a ESC of 80 amps running at about 50% stick.

Motor:
97T with 11T pinion. 8.88 gear ratio

Flying for fun... Not 3D
Rpm 1800, main rotor
Rpm=volts * KV * pinion * % stick/ spur

6S
1800= 22.2 * KV * 11 * 0.70/97
KV = 1100

12S
1800= 44.4 * KV * 11 * 0.70/97
KV = 510

6S
You need a motor with 1100 kV to handle 120 amps or more with 22.2 VOLTS.

12S
You need a motor with 510 kV to handle 42 amps with 44.4 VOLTS.

Flying time

For 84 amps, 3 min with 7000 mAH lipo pack. 70% discharge.
For 42 amps, 5 min with 5000 mAH lipo packs. 70% discharge.

Notes

Keep clutch assembly.
Modify motor base for electric arrangement.
Lipo battery where glow tank is. ( no good run for 12S...)

Sorry about "draft" calculation.

This is Not a design.
You may consider this as a general idea of what you may need for the conversion.

IMHO, don't do that.

Go with a Scorpion motor, I myself am looking into a Hobbywing esc. Many options to choose from out there.

Kontronic Pyro 750, 450kv. Its a monster and runs way cooler than a 450/500 kv Scorpion. I have both. Scorpion is great motor as well and cheaper! You can't go wrong with Scorpion.
