RealFlight 7.5 vs 9.5...

Hey All... Winter is on the way and we are looking at more sim time and less field time. It got me to thinking about my computer simulator and whether or not to upgrade.

I currently have RealFlight 7.5 installed and I'm using an InterLink Elite (by Futaba) controller. A lot has happened in the hobby industry since RF 7 was released. RealFlight 9.5 is now current and includes a Spektrum branded InterLink controller.

So on to the question (finally)... Does anyone have a side by side comparison between RF7 and RF9? Is there a noticeable difference in physics, graphics, transmitter/sticks, program interface, etc? In short, is there a reason to upgrade?

I also have RF7.5 and don’t see a compelling reason to upgrade as RF7.5 does a great job for what it is intended (training/practicing at home.) However, if you have or want to upgrade to latest rev., then make sure your computer can properly support it, otherwise you will be shelling out more money than you probably want just to upgrade to RF.9.5.

I've had the opportunity to A/B RF 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5. The new graphics are way better, the model response is more realistic and dynamic, and the new Spektrum based interlink is quite nice. For my personal RF 9.5 (disclosure, I work part-time at a full feature hobby shop), I use the Spektrum wireless dongle and then depending upon my mood, either my first-generation DX9 or my newer iX12. The list of models included with the RF 9.5 is significantly increased. I'm a happy RF 9.5 camper.Gerry Cullan,

Thanks for the input guys. I'm confident my computer will run whatever whatever program I decide on. I don't see that as a limitation.

Thank you. These are the types of comments that will make me try 9.5. To clarify, you are saying the graphics have improved and the models fly better in RF 9 as apposed to RF7? There is enough of a step from 7 to 9 in these areas to warrant upgrading? I tend to fly the same models a lot and I currently have MANY models available that I never fly. If the largest difference between 7 and 9 is more models, I will probably stick with what I have."Well, nothing bad can happen now."

As an example, the Align 500 is one of the available models on both packages. While the one on 7.5 or 8.5 flies well, 9.5 is like I grabbed mine and headed out the back door to fly in the yard. The graphics are way better, almost to the point of being very photo-realistic.

I have it installed on the computer in my recording studio, and of course the sound goes through my system with very high definition speakers. Sunday, I was flying a large 3D plane and my wife yells into the studio, "why am I running weedwacker motor in the house?" Great fun!Gerry Cullan,
