Align 450L Dominator shakes
First flight, new build .... 450L shakes in hover and dances on the concrete as it spools down almost like a ground resonance.

Heli was built by someone.... assisting another in the setup.

Rechecked thrust bearings large ID first in closer to main shaft ... all good.

Adjusted the Ail & Elv gain (delay) pots on 3GX both directions max/min... no change .... same shake or oscillation.

Not sure if there are other settings in the software setups. Used the computer to see and make adjustments.

Any help to steer me in the right directions would be greatly appreciated.

Built by someone...
Crashed by that someone...?

Pull the main rotor out.

Check if main shaft or spindle is bended.
This heli run very good with the stock 3GX adjustment.

Check also main blades balance.. And tail rotor blades balance...

Check the two link length on main rotor. Maybe off tracking.

New heli build by someone ... new kit. The first owner gave up on finishing the build process. Heli sat for a couple of years. Sold it to a friend and I setup all the linkages and electronics.

I disassembled the head to see if the thrust bearings were put wrong.

A friend of mine did same thing.

He almost forgot his heli.
When he continued the setting, helicopter was shaking hard.
How come?

He discovered, later on, that a MAID push the heli to the ground and spindle got bend.

You never know...

I will check the main shaft.

I am curious about the thrust bearings. Its almost like a snug fit in the blade grip. I wonder if it is not free to float.

UPDATE:

I checked the main mast with a dial indicator and got 0.002" runout.

Then I moved the main mast laterally and got excessive play... did not record the indication.

Found out the upper and lower bearings side load run out had too much play.

What caused the bearings to give?

Possibly the 2 test hover flights with the shakes. Bad Chinese bearings.

Also what caused the shakes? Possibly the head dampers which are described as rubbers and in this case these head dampers are actually a hard plastic bushing.

Is this what the head dampers should be, a bushing and not rubber?

Could the low head speed caused the induced shakes caused by the hard plastic bushing.

Which brings me to the question of how low of a headspeed should this Align 450L Dominator happy at?

Thanks for the replies ... catching up to new designs and flying styles after being idle for 12 long years.

Align helis don't have this plastics thing you found...

Is There a possibility that you have there a "clone" Frankenstein with align parts?

Chinese clone have this surprises...

That's interesting...the box and manual are Align. Box has an Align sticker with number.

Per the manual .... DFC Damper rubber (POM). I'm guessing its not a rubber but a hard plastic bushing so you can run a high headspeed.

Further research have come up as POM being a hard plastic in the DFC head.

They absolutely do have this type of plastic ...POM on their rotor heads!
I have the same one in my Trex 700DFC,but larger size and it is an authentic part from "Align".
Since it is very stiff, don't forget to grease it along with your spindle.
It's funny how people "ASSUME" things that they know nothing about!!!

So now I believe the shakes and wobble is from a low head speed. Now to find out whats the head speed for this 450L dominator or lowest throttle curve %.

Based on the following:

(EDITED)

Motor = 1800 Kv
Battery = 6S or 22.2 volts
Gear Ratio = 1:11

(EDITED)
Headspeed @80% = 2800 rpm (calcuated) / 2639 rpm (actual)

So reducing the throttle curve to:

(EDITED)
60% = 2100 rpm (calculated) / a 1980 rpm (actual).

These values are not in stone just a baseline as I learn electric helis. The (Actual) values is a percentage factor that I averaged out using others setup and actual headspeed measured with a blade tachometer.

Just read the last trouble shooting page of the manual, "hovering headspeed should be 2800 rpm".

That answers the shake/wobble. I had the headspeed at 1600 rpm at hover.

Oh! Yes... This little bird don't work at low speed.

You need to set proper rpm... 3000 rpm and more...
