696 or 650X?
Trying to decide, Im a Synergy guy but its going to cost me more then double to build the 696 compared to the 650. I realize 650 to 700 class and you get what you pay for but what else? Thoughts?

Confuses everyone! And you will win!

Old school said...

Serie 370, Class 25
Serie 450, Class 30
Serie 600, Class 50
Serie 700, Class 60-90
Serie 800, Class 90

The bigger, the better.

Electronic for 696, 650 and 700 are the same so, get the 700.

I'm be watching to see what others have to say.

It's hard to comment as the 650X has only just been released and is somewhat in a class all it's own size wise. With 650mm blades it's not quite a 700 and not quite a 600. With a 440KV motor it would seem to be best suited for 12S LiPo but with only 650 blades, disk loading will be high with standard 5,000mAh batteries.

I would be tempted to replace the motor with something closer to 800KV and fly the model on 6S. The alternative might be to fly the model on 12S but try smaller batteries closer to 3,000 or 4,000mAh.

650mm blade selection will be limited. For instance, HeliDirect only list 3 sets of 650mm blades and they are all out of stock. (SAB and two colors of Align blades)

Again, the 650X model is new and I don't own one so I'm only speculating.

As to the Synergy 696... Like the 650X, I don't own the model - but they are extremely well liked. We can talk about them all day, but short of buying one used, they are very hard to find right now. A few things have combined to make Synergy kits and parts difficult to add-to-cart.

That's a good point, I didn't think of that. The Synergy situation worries me a little and the "size by it self" thing I don't mind. Kind of what has attracted me to it honestly.

Well said!

The only reason to get helis 650 or 696 and not 700, should be for economical reason. It should be cheaper. You can call them, The babies 700!!

So, like a plane that you can fly only by changing the propeller, you can fly your series 700 helicopter changing main blades according to your expectation. You also can change pinion, motor kV, boom length or batteries and you still have the 700 "basement equipment". I am sure you don't change servos, gyros and the rest of gadgets inside to achieve the 650 parameters.

Ok, if you want to spend money on useless "baby series", we can do nothing about it.

I had a 696. Great heli. Flew well, simple lightweight design. Personally I wouldn’t even consider buying another one now. Parts are a huge issue with Synergy, they just aren’t available now. It’s bad enough that a Synergy rep I know bought a different brand 700 after crashing his 696 because he couldn’t get what he needed to fix it.Nick Crego

There’s nothing baby about a 696. It’s a regular sized 700 and swings 716 Rails.

Very good.
That is what I like to heard.
It the same thing so, you don't need to buy another kit.

I have a series 700 helicopter so, I have also 610, 620, 650, 696, 710, 715 and whatever... By changing gadgets like kv motor, 6s or 12s lipo, blades, boom, pinion, I can configure the "dream size" according with my expectation.

No need more kits... Probably, you will need a canopy to identify your "dream size" helicopter.

When you get bored about this configuration, keep your "700 base equipment" and choose other gadgets...

Really? That' good to know. I've had almost all the Synergy models at one time or another. A E5 is all I have left currently in a fuselage... I'll have to be careful flying it..lol

I've had almost all the Synergies as well. They had issues late last year with the shop that actually made all their parts in China and terminated the relationship. Since then, there have been no parts made. Botos has moved and is working on setting up a new shop to make parts and kits, but that hasn't come on line yet.

Don't crash a Synergy. At some point there'll be new parts available, but at this point they just aren't being made and haven't for a long time.
