This is gonna be the chit!
Butch as usual i already know that anything you are building is going to be kick-ass and one of the best parts is watching a block of foam or a new fuselage come to life step by step and getting to see it in person gives one a big appreciation of what it took to get it there and on top of all that, i learn so much stuff along the way.
i have been redesigning existing mechanics and designing my own for a few years now. Guess that's what i get when i hang around people like Darrell, you get "edumacated" on a lot of stuff. That G-10 has become one of my best friends for the hobby.
Keep it up Butch, i know that S-XX is going to be on a "Presidential" level!

Thanks for the complements Mang,

My 76 was a bit "old school" on the power train and equipment side. It was also one of my first major scale project. Being built back in 08, not only have avionics and equipment evolved, I feel I have as well. Thanks to so many folks I have met over they years and learned from, I am sure I can put that education to process and build a much better "mouse trap".

UIH,

Dusted this thing off over the past week or so and began working on bulkhead templates. I was sparked by the receipt of two rotor heads and two TGB kits. One set for 301CV and one for S-XX. Next will be getting these bulkheads cut out and set in and get the mechanic mount rails placed.

We will see how that goes.

They made out of lumber.

Will cut the center of the bulkheads out once the mechanic rails are fit. The bearing blocks for the main rotor and lay shaft for the tail drive should be here tomorrow. I can install the shafts into the mechanics and begin fitting rails for proper alignment.

Uih,

A couple good days. Received the slave bearing blocks for the shafts and got the mechanic mount rails fit roughed in on the forward and mid bulkheads. Will work on the last bulkhead some day soon.

Couple pics.

UIH,

Leveled the heli to set up the mechanic mount rails, square to structural bulk heads and the fuselage. Got the lateral and longitudinal axis spot on.

The mechanics have a built in 2° forward tilt. Having the fuselage square to the mechanics and mount rails makes it easy to keep everything square. The 2° forward tile will mimic the full scale in a hover.

The original mechanics did not have a forward tilt so the tilt was in the structure.

I enjoy watching a scratch built structure come together. Once the main mechanic structure has a place called home I can work aft on the tail drive power train.

Uih,

B
