Value Hobby round life packs?
Has anyone seen or used them? They look like A123 cells sold as LiFe.

I bought five of these packs a few years ago. Most have at least one dead cell now and have been taken out of service. While they look like A123 cells, they are not. I have since purchased actual A123 cells from IMRBatteries.com and made up my own packs. I learned my lesson.-Kevin

I've not seen actual A123 cells with solder tabs. I bought some copper strip and cut it to size (https://www.ebay.com/itm/133104900615). I also purchased a Weller 100 watt soldering iron (https://www.ebay.com/itm/283015309536) as recommended in RCGroups. Looks like the price has gone up. I paid $60 for that soldering iron.

If you don't want to mess with all that, you can get packs ready to go here: https://www.radicalrc.com/category/...Cells-Packs-199

JLF92677 FYI, A123 is a Li-Ion cell with 3.7v nominal voltage vs LiFe with 3.3v. They are not the same, so please make sure the your receiver, servos, etc are HV rated if you are going to use A123.
Nominal voltage is the same: 3.3v. A123 and LiFe packs both can be charged up to 3.6V per cell. https://www.batteryspace.com/prod-specs/6610.pdf

I did check out radikal rc and had some sticker shock, but after looking at the cost of building my own turns out they are not that expensive.Putting divots in the earth the hard way!

For my four packs:
$76 (8) A123 cells
$60 Weller Soldering iron
$06 Nickel plated copper strip
$16 RC battery connectors (2 per pack)
$04 Deans connector and some wire (I had this on hand)
$08 Heat shrink
$06 Balance plug
Total: $176

Each pack: $44

Next ones should be cheaper as the soldering iron and copper strip has been purchased, already.

Check with "Electrodynamics" in Livonia, Mi for A123 packs. Andy Low, has an add in every issue of "Model Aviation".

Yep electrodynamics seems to be the place. As I understand the reading, I can charge a123 on the life setting in my charger.Putting divots in the earth the hard way!

Yes. If your charger doesn't have a specific A123 setting, you can use the LiFe setting. That's what I do with an iCharger 380 DUO. Don't charge them above 3.6V per cell. I mistakenly did that once with a LiFe pack. The pack puffed up and was destroyed.
