It's not so easy!! I'd be inclined to practice hovering over a long BALSA wood stick for a while - Removing the stress and pilot workload of the swinging object will make a huge difference to your confidence!

Actually the water reservoir is ridiculously small. However a small target increases your accuracy. It's definitely a challenge. The bucket does not swing much at all once filled with water.

The hook and electrical connection are set up so that the bucket can be dropped if need be. I demonstrated that in the video above. The bucket uses a traxxas waterproof steering servo to operate the dump valve.

Roger that Rich! Thanks for the advice. I am still working on the technique.
More videos to follow...

Geek info:
For those interested, the hook was cut from some tough tool box plastic (type unknown, probably nylon) and bolted directly to the horn on a Futaba 9202. The 9202 is hot glued to the inside of the fiberglass fuselage. With a glue contact area of approximately 1 sq. in., the 16 oz weight of a loaded pint sized bucket does not appreciably deform the fiberglass. Actually I tested it with a 48 oz load with no ill effects. So, no supporting structure was required for such a light load, even at 3G.

On the Tyler Gray bucket, the dump valve lost it's pushrod horn on day one. So I soldered a new one from pieces of nickel plated brass (HO scale rr fishplate) and bolted it in place. The bucket servo is a Traxxas waterproof steering servo.

Nice UH1 man. I really like the hook mechanism and the cargo net. Did you make the net yourself?

Thanks, the heli took about a year to complete but was well worth it. The cargo strings are dyed booth-laces and if I remember the net is from camping equipment which was also dyed. The first aid cargo is two-by-four wood cut pieces. The hook was made to work with my three-way governor switch(Norm-Gov-Gov/Release).

I haven't done any sling loading since the first try. I have had to re-program the vbar and am still tuning and getting it dialed in. I will give it a go again one of these days.

I didn't crash. I just ran out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time!
