Thank You for Saying Thank You...
Recently I've notice a lot more folks posting to say thank you when someone makes an effort to help.

At times in the last few years I've notice someone will ask a question, someone else will take the time to provide an answer (often with pictures, part numbers, or links) and it's met with silence.

More and more I'm noticing folks stopping back by to say thank you for the help. Nice.

As the subject line says- Thank you for saying thank you.
"Well, nothing bad can happen now."

In business, that is almost a given. I moved from the field after 40 years (I was relatively email savvy) Now email consumes about 80% of my time, and saying thanks is a common courtesy. I have found it is not reciprocal from the field I left though, and it bothers me. If I go to the trouble to look something up or provide them with information I never hear back. I have mentioned it to some in passing, and I see changes on those.

The South
I am 50 years old. I go out of my way to hold the door and be polite to everyone. My kids are 11/12 and are often told they are extremely polite and well behaved. This is, was and should be a Southern thing. Politeness and Manners are a way to show respect to others.
Recently our small town has an influx of Young Yankee families. Their kids are ok, but rarely call adults sir or ma'am. They are fairly well behaved, but also will overlook. saying 'Thank you' or as 'Yea' or 'What' when addressed. I politely as them to address me as 'Sir'. Most will say, my parents don't require it of them. I let them know that I am not their parents. Usually that is all that is required.

A few of these parents have commented on the behavior of my kids and their manners. But after a while a couple have mentioned that Southerners are fake nice. We are polite but can turned quite Nasty tempered. I simply explain that many people confuse Politeness with Weakness. However People of the South default to kindness and generosity. If you can't make friends here, it's your fault.

**Yes, I have noticed people being kind. If people shut off the news, the world would be a better place.
