Logo Static
G’day Logo flyers.

I’ve just bought a Logo 550SX combo and have some questions.

Is static an issue. I had a 500 3D converted to FBL some years ago and had terrible issues with it. I never worked out if it was static or a brownout. I suspect my early Savox servos we’re far too hungry for my system.

Can the supplied YGE ESC be set to governor mode? If it can is it possible without the program card as I assume it doesn’t come with one.

It comes with a 14t pinion. I like to run lower HS and longer flight times. Is the 12t a better way to go? No 3D for me.

Paul, congrats on the Logo 550. I run mod 1 gearing and get maby 6 min flight time out of mine and I do not do 3d. Get the mikado static kit or make your own. Highly recommended.
There are how to's on youtube.

To test your BEC, the best option is to probe your receiver and see if the voltage is dropping below its minimum operating voltage when under load. You can do this on a bench by: enabling throttle-hold, holding tight onto the blade grips to simulate full load, then quickly moving the throttle stick up and down.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a multimeter or a telemetry receiver that reports voltage, you can just do the procedure listed above and as long as your receiver doesn’t shut off, you’re likely okay.

Mikado makes an inexpensive static kit that takes all of five minutes to install. There is zero reason not to have it installed, especially on a belt-driven heli.

Without knowing your motor kv and main gear, it’s hard to say whether 12t is a good option but a smaller pinion is almost always better for more flight time

Thanks for the info guys. Sorry for the late response.

My Logo 550SX is up and running and giving me very delightful 10-12 minute flights depending on my chosen governed rpm. I’m using 6s5000Mah packs and using no more than 80% capacity. The kit unexpectedly came with the static kit and the BEC works very well at 7.4v. I’m using a Futaba CGY760R and BLS272SV and BLS276SV with an Ultraguard 430.

This is my second Logo, the first being a 500-3D flybarred about 10 years ago. I really like the changes they’ve made although I’d personally prefer the original plastic tail box as the new one is kinda large and a bit fiddly. So many more parts on the tail for what appears to be looks alone. I also had to put 6 small washers in the lower frame as spacers because the battery tray was extremely tight.

Overall what an amazingly enjoyable helicopter to fly which looks and sounds great and with the choice in available pinions allows a setup to suit everyone’s tastes and requirements. Great value from Mikado.

Static is an issue depending on where you live.

If less humidity ... static is possible.

Grounding the boom keeps static from building up and discharging to FBL. Also good idea to use silicone dry lube on the belt. Do this in combination offer us the best chance for a static free experience.

FYI
Static electricity is also present in the main gear when it rotates. Hold a contactless AC meter up to it!

Grounding screw
At the forward end of the tail boom, I've found the provided screws to be too short to make contact with the boom. Since the boom is 22mm dia, and there's an extra plastic case between the main frame and boom to bush the sizes together, it requires a longer screw to install at the provided location. I made several tries to achieve continuity before concluding the screw was way too short to touch the boom. I've eventually drilled a very small pilot hole into the boom for the screw to penetrate so that I am not stripping the plastic when installing the screw. In the case of the 550SX I recently built, I used an M2.5x10mm socket cap screw for this. I just hate to use Phillips head self tapper screws, and have plenty of the socket caps in the stash. It seemed a risk that it could be too long, but It has not touched the belt that I can tell so far in about 6 weeks of flying. I tried shorter ones, including 8mm previously, and could not read continuity with my multi-meter.

I’ve used an M2.5x10 in the existing hole and managed to get continuity through the boom to the tail. I agree about the little self tapping screws. I have also added a wire from the negative ESC lead to the pinion case. This was while attempting to fix a static/interference issue which would consistently appear after 6 minutes in the air. My Logo will fly for over 12 minutes. After a lot of sprays and wires and other witchcraft I eventually found the issue when I swapped the motor. When I had installed my Hacker Turnado 850Kv I didn’t use Loctite on the Pinion bearing inner race. The motor shaft had worn down slightly and was obviously heating up around the 6 minute mark and causing tail kicks. I’ve installed a new bearing and used Loctite and all is well. I may just remove the bearing in the future as it’s of no advantage for me really. My original Logo 500-3D never had one and was absolutely fine.Quest NEO Caliber ZG, Zenoah G260PUH, CGY760R, NHP 750, NHP 115.

Interesting... You found you needed a wire from the ESC. I've not had an indication that mine needs this... Yet.

I believe I could also go without that counter bearing on my 600SE if it becomes an issue. Is think securing the counterbearing to the motor shaft would make nightmare for maintenance...?

You are right!
Keep your 600SE as simple as you can !
It is not a "nightmare for maintenance", it is just >>> Useless <<<.

From time to time, do an inspection of spur and pinion... if it is ok, keep flying and enjoy the ride! if it is not, well... check proper interference between spur-pinion.
Depending on your 3D xtreme maneuvers and spur-pinion worn out, the counterbearing could help..!

Hahah...Extreme 3D and Logo 600SE don't exactly belong in the same realm...

But, point well taken. In my case, I like flogging mine at 1350 rpm on 6S5000. Love cruising around mildly and then some slow "smack" in close near the deck where I can see it closely. But "extreme" she ain't. Though it's easily the most fun I've had a heli is since converting to 6S.

I’ve gone back to the Scorpion HKIII-4025-1100 although it isn’t really in my preferred rpm range. When I use the Hacker A50 the tail starts glitching at around the 6 minute mark. For some reason the Scorpion doesn’t do it.Quest NEO Caliber ZG, Zenoah G260PUH, CGY760R, NHP 750, NHP 115.
