How to thin clutch lining a little ? Need help /advice. I think I used a little more JB WELD than needed in sticking a new clutch lining to the bell and now catches the metal clutch a little . Just wondering if it's okay to use some and paper to sand the lining a little and if so , what grit to use? Also obviously it will remove that coloured layer -will that be okay ?
Thanks ! |

Sanding the asbestos lining material is probably OK. I would worry about not removing material "evenly". If you know some one with a lathe the job can be done properly.
Good luck. |

its not asbestos so dont be concerned
if you have a drill just chuck the clutch up in one
spin it and then hold some sand paper to it as evenly as you can
the grit of the paper really doesnt matter just do it a little and test fit
often. course paper will take it off faster than fine paper naturallyageing is manditory maturity is optional |

A good ol hot start is a really good way to thin out a clutch lining a bitshowing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap... |

/Just a little bit... Not much.!
Sand paper and a 3/8" drill...
Clean the area and be careful with the bearing inside...Then, Let the clutch shoe do the job... /Saludos cordiales, |

Thanks for all replies .But does removing the smooth shiny surface layer leaving more like cupboard material matter? Because this is what I did -- I used a flap wheel and low speed drill and removed the shiny layer a little. Hope it's okay . |

/No problem.
The clutch shoe is going to put that surface smoother...If you don't like that surface, you can use your dremel with the polish tool and leave the surface with better aspect./Saludos cordiales, |

The question of how to install a clutch liner comes up periodically. I had this little job to do the other day and thought I'd film it and share how I get this done.I realize not everyone is going to have access to a lathe but hopefully there are some techniques shown that can be adapted to the equipment that is available.Watch at YouTube "Well, nothing bad can happen now." |

Nice video..for those people without a lathe, when I did the liners I put a plastic sandwich bag over the clutch and pressed it in to the bell, if you check the thickness of the bag you can get very close to the thickness needed for clearance desired by wrapping tape around clutch. lathe is always the better solution if you have one.Chris |

I use some paper to wedge the lining between the bell housing and epoxy it in, this gives an equal spacing between the two. |

/This is my procedure...First, I cut the liner. Then, prepare the epoxy and install in place the liner. With a plastic tubing greater than the bell, I put on the liner to press it again the bell. Ready to fly! The clutch shoe is going to manage the rest.../Saludos cordiales, |

I can't seem to use the 'quote',,I use grease proof kitchen paper, you can also use sellotape or (thicker ) masking tape if it sticks just sand it away. |
