Jetcat replacement with kingtech k100 on xlc vario
Wondering if you can swap them out. Only thing I'm worried about that kingtech does not have a way to set headspeed

I am not an engineer, but the way you could do it is as the jetcat does, work out what head speed you want, on an XLV if you had metal grips the head speed was around 900-950rpm, then work out the gear ratio you would need to achieve that head speed via pinion and main gear, you could then do what jetcat does and run the turbine at 100%. Then due to the gear ration you run at a constant head speed.

As a caveat i have no experience with Kingtec, you might be worth dropping Kevin from taiwan who was doing a lot of work with a trex and kingtec turbine.

Probably not since the XLV used a PHT4 with a clutch bell and i see no bell on that turbine.

The XLC uses a JetCat 2 stage turbine not a PHT4.
It also has a very good governor in the ECU menu.
Not sure if the Kingtech offers this facility in its menu ?
As Matt say's above, the JetCat software lets you enter the gear ratios and then the required head speed.
Without this, you are back to the old "Wren" day's of sorting out a throttle curve to make if perform to it's best ability.

There is no reason at all why the physical engine cannot be made to fit - may need a new mounting plate.

The XLC was designed for aerial work AFAIK, hence it came with 3 bladed head and higher undercarriage and 3 or 4 bladed tail if i remember.
The XLV you mentioned was originally a Gasser that used a belt and pulley, they then came out with a turbine version which used the PHT4 ( No longer made) that used a system similar to the Jakodofsky turbine, where there was a pinion on output shaft that went via clutch and gear, it was a mass of wires and had an exhaust that run up the entire side of the XLV,
Hobbyparts then did a conversion ( which i got) where it used the Jetcat SP5, it was brilliant, as Modtron said you tapped in the gear ratio and it would lock to a head speed ( 950rpm) the beauty of it was i could then remove the turbine and use in another model without having to send it back to JETCAT for a gear change like the PHT3 had to be done.
