60a Spektrum smart esc problem
I put a Spektrum smart esc in my Align 470L. Now the tail blows out on hard punch outs. It did not do this with the Align speed controller. Any ideas?

The "spektrum smart ESC" it suppose to work with spektrum telemetry stuff the get all its potential and functions.

It is difficult to give you some clues because you don't give much info.

New esc on your heli...

All I have to say is if you have a New response on main rotor rpm, you need to check gain tail gyro.

As far as I know, A "smart" gadget from one brand means nothing to other brand.

So, this "smart" thing on a futaba stuff could be dangerous if it is not properly setup...

I am going to switch out of governor mode in the esc to fixed wing mode, this will cut out the governor mode out. Thinking that may be the problem. Haven’t had the chance to try it yet.

The only thing running it on Futaba means is you don't get telemetry data back to your transmitter, otherwise it's just an ESCAndy

I tried the fixed wing mode yesterday, and Heli worked again. Was the same way with the Align speed controller, I couldn’t run it in governor mode ether. When I did, the tail would kick out. I think they are both made by Hobbywing. Not sure why this is.

The 470 doesn’t have the best tail ratio and if the governor isn’t doing its task that could be causing the tail to blow out. I have an 80a avian esc and it seemed to bog easily using the gov mode on the esc. I switched to a Brain 2 and used the governor through that and it’s much better

I don't know but I don't like the word "smart" in my stuff.
When I read "smart" in a gadget, that means something real wrong inside.

Check every function on the menu. Inhibit all "smart" things inside and leave the ESC as plain (not smart at all) as you can.

It's always best to understand the product on which you're providing advice before you provide advice. The smart ESC's, when plugged into a normal PWM receiver port and not a smart receiver with SRXL,.. function just as a normal ESC. The smart telemetry features only work with receivers with a smart throttle port. Even then, the smart features have no effect on the way the esc operates the motor, only in telemetry transmission. Additionally, there are no smart features to turn "on" or "off" in the esc. If it plugs into a smart throttle port, it delivers the information, if into a pwm port it doesn't and it's a normal esc. It's likely just a difference in governer functionality. The Avian governer works extremely well so it can show previously unknown issues with tail setup. Maybe the ratio is low, tail servo speed slow, or tailblades a bit too short .Gary Wright

Back to the original explanation...

Esc align, a regular esc.
Spektrum esc do "smart" things.

Then, problems on tail.

If both ESC behave the same, there is no way that tail blows out.

So, something inside the new ESC is not as smart as he require.

The problem is the motor and esc do not work well together when in governor mode. When not in governor mode the tail holds great. I think it's a problem with the motor and esc not working with each other.
