After maintenace nightmare
I'm ready to throw this thing at the wall. I have a Trex 600E. It has flown with no issues since I bought it in 2018. I regularily lubed the bearings with no issues. Recently I decided to do a maintenance tear down. All I did was take the bearings out of the tail case and clean em, removed the boom and cleaned the tail drive gear bearings, removed the rotor head and cleaned the main shaft bearings and one way bearing. I put it back together and everything is butter smooth (bearings) and the nightmare began. The tail won't hold its jerking left and right, drifting to the right regardless of what I do. I have tightened the belt by holding the Heli by the tail with the main blades on and battery in it to get the right belt tension (as per information in the forums). I have adjusted my gyro gain, and throttle curves with no effect. The Gyro(401) is mounted on the plastic tray on top under the boom and Rx under it. I have been flying it in that configuration since 2018 with no issues. I'm at my wits end. I have been flight testing trying different things for 3 weeks and still can't get it dialed in like it was before the tear down. WT....f...is wrong with it...? Even for me its a head scratcher. I've never ran into this before. Please help. *sigh*

According for what you said... You have for some reason, a complete new helicopter to setup. How come?

In my experience, I do the job by sessions.
First session... Main rotor.
Then, test and fly.

Second session... Tail boom.
Then, test and fly.

That is the way to do the maintenance.
When you do everything on the same session, it is hard to tell where you make a mistake...

So, main rotor is not the problem.

>>> Tail boom. <<<

- Belt tension, check
- Push rod not bending.?
- Mechanism tail sliding sleeve free to move.?
- tail blades correctly mounted.?
- vertical fin firmly attached.?
- tension poley free...?
- tail shaft free to movement.?
- belt correctly mounted.?

No...its not an new Heli. All I did as I said above was clean and lube the bearings and set the belt tension accordingly after reassembling it. "BUT"....since my post...through the process of elimination...it turns out it was the Gyro after all. I replaced it with a new G401 I never used and "Voila"!, the tail is locked. Not even 1 click of trim either way. 1 turn out of the tail control rod link and solid hold (61% gain)(85% flat TC curve). Something so simple yet so overlooked. The tail Servo is fine as well. What a thing. I've had many a Heli's over the years since 2005 and each presents it's own challenges when things go a rye. But when the Heli isn't happy, I'm not happy and hell bent to figure out WT...f is wrong and fix it. I was stumped for the moment with this thing. But I got it after all. I really shouldn't jump the gun and cry for help you know. Its like the boy who cried wolf. lol. Thank you for you advice and food for thought.

I'm not sure if there are thrust berarings in the tail on the Trex 600E, but if you have the inner and outer races of these bearings reversed it will make moving the blades almost impossible for the servo when they are spinning and are under load.

Thrust bearing are like two small, flat, grooved, washers, that have a small ball race in between. One of the small "washers" has a very slightly bigger hole than the other one. The "big hole" washer goes on first, then the race, then the smaller one. You can put each"washer" on the shaft and "feel" the looseness by rocking back and forth. Again, If you put the small hole one on first, the servo won't have enough power to work the tail when it is spinning. Good luck.

Its the V2 tail hub and it came as one piece already assembled in the package. I know what thrust bearings are and how to assemble them. BUT....it turns out it was that dam static discharge just like the dam Trex 500 I had. I have to go thru the grounding process....that...or silicon spray. I used static guard before too. How the bejesus could I not think of that and over look it. I'm an idiot. I havn't read anything about the Trex 600 suffering this just like the T500. Grrrr. lol.

Very strange situation.

Static discharge... On a trex600E... I was thinking that problem belong to logo Mikado helicopters...

Good explanation about it...

I've seen that video. Ya the static thing is the only thing left that could be causing it. I've had my servo (9254) tested, I've changed Gyro. I checked all my wiring, checked and rechecked. Nothing is out of balance. I did get through 2 batterys before it glitched but this time it only lasted about 1 min or so and it was gone. So I don't know. Its in the hanger now waiting for me to set it up for a LHS (Low Head Speed) set up. We'll see when I'm done.
