OS .32 SX-H rebuild
Dusted off my old Hawk Sport last week and noticed she seemed a little week(more than normal). Removed the motor and swapped it with the spare I had and all was well.

Tore old motor down and low and behold the Teflon piston pin cap was totally gone and the pin was sliding and scoring the sleeve. I bought this hello used 10 years ago and flew it pretty regularly so I can't complain. I planed to rebuild but can't find that piston and sleeve anywhere. I did however find the ringed version parts at rcjapan and they are on the way. Crank and case are good, everything else is pretty worn out. I picked up all the new parts for under $100. Only place I could find them. eBay had the Pis
ton and ring for $50 and Amazon had the ringed sleeve but they wanted $75 just for the sleeve. RC Japan even had a new in the box .32 ring and a pull start.

I searched for a used os.37, but no one seems to be selling them.

RCJapan should have any parts, and can get you an engine. They're pretty easy to deal with.

Edit: I just checked RCJ ; OS .37: 21,150 YEN == $194 USD.

As Joey pointed out RC Japan will send you an OS .37.. Contrary to popular belief, they were never discontinued. I would describe them as the greatest .30 class engine ever. Simply a joy to run and fly.

If you are insistent on retro, the OS .32 can still be bought. These little motors ran like a sewing machine. Not as much power as the .37 but stupid easy to tune. It is really cool (and a little odd) that you can still buy the .32. https://www.rcjapan.net/index.php?m...0hreilg53pdfj3:)

Wow. That's really impressive. I'm not sure I would have even taken on a project like that. Looking at the before pictures I might have put that motor in a bag on the shelf. Again, really impressive.

What did you use to clean up the casting? You mentioned the piston and sleeve were knackered and replaced. Everything else cleaned up OK?

everything is original as you see in the before pictures,The only thing I replaced was the back plate gasket which I made using a brother scanncut machine, I just used a heat gun like the ones you use to stretch solarfilm to free up the piston and carb, then used plenty penetrating oil took a bit of time and patience but it all freed up nicely, the casing was cleaned in my blast cabinet using very fine aluminium oxide with all key areas masked off, then give it a few washes using various brushes and cotton swabs etc.

Hmmm... Sadly, your question is harder than I might have hoped. Not too long ago I might have recommended the Gaui NX4 - but they are out of production.

I was just given a new-old-stock Raptor .30V2 but again, they are hardly current.

There is the Quest Neo Cliber 30FBL but given it's selling price, I'm not sure it will fit your needs. https://www.rcjapan.net/index.php?m...kjutab7gj85cd64

Hopefully someone else will post with some more useful information. I'm not sure I was much help... Sorry.

appreciate it brother, i've been through your town a number of times on i20 visiting relatives in alabama. You think a .32 will power a .55 class for sport flying, newbie learning,no 3d? Didnt know if the engine would fit any of the current kits though

Heli class 30 in production?... Mmmm... Hirobo shuttle...

Hey.... 0.32 is a class 30 and doesn't fit on a class 50 helicopter. Some assembly and parts required to do such a conversion.

Some number of years ago I converted my Raptor .30 to a .50. It took a surprising number of parts to convert the model. Conversion parts included new pinion/main gear, new motor mount, new fan, longer boom. longer belt, etc. Of course it took new main and tail blades. Even though the frame/tank/head/tail/radio tray/etc. weren't replaced, it wasn't a drop-in conversion.

Going from a 50 to a 30 might be similar.

The good news is that the Raptor 30 and 50 are otherwise very similar and while the 30 doesn't have the same performance as the 50, it flies very nicely even though it is basically a 50 helicopter. So yes. I think you can fly a .55 class model with a .32- if you can make the adjustments required to get the motor installed.
