I personally miss them 🥺. Every month I looked forward to buying the various RC heli mags. I believe there is still one or two German RC heli mags.
I have stacks of heli mags dating back to the 1980s and love looking thru them and remembering all the fun I’ve had with RC helis.Roy Mayoral |

I have stacks of heli mags dating back to the 1980s and love looking thru them and remembering all the fun I’ve had with RC helis. It’s wild how much has changed in the RC hobby in general in the past 10 years or so, especially with heli’s, it’s unbelievable. The bug came back in April and as I began to look for a Raptor 50 it quickly became apparent they had suffered the fate of many other brands. The heli mags were a good source to find the latest trends, but couldn’t even find any of those. Crazy! So I settled on a Goblin and I am finding quite the learning curve with e-heli’s the throttle curves are different compared to nitro, FBL heli’s and FBL controllers vs FB rotors and gyro’s. So much change.AMA 685330 IRCHA 3966 |

I began in the rc world 10 years ago (or so) at a later age. It was right before the fbl systems came up. That was a time of great enthusiasm not only to me, but to the rc world in general. Align was the predominant manufacturer. Flying helis, at that time, was more about developing skills to tame those wild flying machines and having fun. Then, gradually, new brands came up and started changing the face of the hobby. Rc helis became a race in which the manufacturers were doing all they could to grab a good slice of the market. Initially, being able to do that hard 3d maneuver was all what counted. Now, the important thing was to have the right servos, ESC and FBL unit. Nobody could be happy with anything anymore. Finally, a few years later, the drone **** appeared and the hobby was never the same again. The drone **** lasted very little, but the damage had been made. |

readytofly Finally, a few years later, the drone **** appeared and the hobby was never the same again. The drone **** lasted very little, but the damage had been made. I think the drone craze just separated the hobbyists that valued "plug-n-play" over the "roll up your sleeves and spend time/effort in actually flying" crowd. It was bound to happen. Almost everything has a bubble and a bust. The hardcore heli hobbyists are still here. We weren't that large before drones, or Align (some could even argue Thunder Tiger) came on the scene. Maybe we'll see another bubble again.I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It has hurt our manufacturers and avenues to get supplies, but overall our hobby isn't dead (well, for now; looking at you FAA).Back to the thread topic, I do miss RCM and RCHeli Mag. I grew up religiously reading every issue of RCM that I could get. Many years later, RCHeli mag came out and I had every single issue. Those jokers still owe me money... I reckon that ship has sailed, though! That's the way I see it anyway. Cheers.J. B. Jones |

If I hadn't picked up a copy of Rotory Modeler when I visited a hobby shop back in '93..I don't know if I ever would have been interested..It was the Hughes 500D on the cover that really caught my attention..I have every issue of that mag. Except #1..Model helicopter technique was another one I used to get..I liked Rcheli pilot..it was a good one; I miss hearing from that rc heli guru James Wang! I do a great decending funnel! |

utahbob I liked Rcheli pilot..it was a good one; I miss hearing from that rc heli guru James Wang! Funny you mention Mr. Wang.... as I just read the June edition of Model Aviation mag, he was given a column to publish heli articles. Lucky for you, you will be hearing from him again!
