Ikon2 and Kontronik Kosmic 160 Governor Setup
Anyone uses these 2 units in their setup.

Ikon2 & Kosmic

Which will be the preferred governor setup.

1) Ikon2 does the motor rpm governor.

2) Kosmic does the motor rpm governor.

Can you explain the pros and cons.

Good question...

FBL unit
ESC or governor unit

Both have governor capabilities.

Who is the better for rpm control?

Well, in electric helicopters, no matter what FBL unit you have, it is better to control with ESC programming.

Running nitro or gas, you need governor with more control like overspeeding issues, gain control, etc.
FBL unit give basic programming so, it is better to control with external and dedicated governor unit.

Thanks ... thats whatI figured.

ESC for governing.

Old school days, governor uses a feedback via a magnet and hall sensor and gear ratio.

I'm guesing ESC uses motor pole and voltage to determine rpm. Not sure about gear ratio.

FBL controller, I'm guessing uses ESC to determine rpm. In addition, gear ratio and motor pole.

More research to know how Ikon2 and Kontronik Kosmic determine rpm .... rpm synonymous with headspeed or motor revolution (kv value).

The big difference is that kontronik don't need sensor hall nor magnets to measure rpm. Kontronik do all calculations internally.

Ikon2 or any other governor unit need sensor hall, magnets to read rpm...

ESC kontronik will ask for helicopter gear ratio to establish rotor rpm and do all the Calc.

Very easy... You got what you paid.

The internal governor on the KOSMIK works extremely well and it does not require any additional wiring or sensors. It's the only governor I've ever used since my Nitro days.
