IMO, We are watching the consecuences of bad operations.
The problem is not the lithium batt...it is of human nature.

Nobody tell what happen before this accidents.

We need to take into consideration:

1. Charge procedure.

In this cases, our kids or even us, don't understand the charging procedure for lithium Batts.
The scooter's batt is exhausted so you immediately charge the battery. Big mistake!!!
This Batts are not PB or NiCD.

2. Never leave charge process unattended.

3. Keep a fire extinguisher in place.

Simple rules...

We do that on fields with our flying gadget.

I think you can see what happened before the fire. Assume they use the device, they plug the battery in and sit with the thing waiting for it to charge. In many ways, like so many people at the flying fields we visit have done...

Lips's are time bombs and if there is a failure in the charge process/device - ie. the Stop Voltage or Charge Current for the battery is exceeded, these videos show the possible/probable outcome... What this also shows that even attending the battery whilst it's charging is no substitute for simply charging these things in a SAFE AREA. Charging a High Capacity lipo like these indoors is a little short sighted...

I'm not sure a fire extinguisher will stop a Lipo fire once its alight..

Whatever the cause, whatever the reason, certainly an eye opener. I always charge mine when I am near them. I get lackadaisical with them sometimes, that's when 'SH@T' happens.

Human nature _may_ play a role but not always....

Simple equipment malfunction can also play a role and NOT the operators fault .

There are many documented cases where that is so . For instance, a cell phone exploding into flames by simply being charged.....
Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Looking at these 2 videos... Being 'Near enough' may not be good enough to avert a serious fire!

Charge these big lipos in a safe area..
