After 10 years away from the hobby, I'm back! with an Assault 100
10 years ago, I sold most of my planes and all of my helicopters. A couple of months ago, a friend of mine offered to sell me his e-Flite Scout CX for $20.00. It needed a new lipo. So, another $10.00 at the hobby shop and it's flying! Woohoo!!! The R/C bug has bitten me... Again!

After flying it around the house a while and tormenting my poor pooch and cats with it, I'm bored. What to do next? I don't have much money to spend... I do have a sweet 100 MPH brushless R/C car that I haven't played with in a decade though. I cleaned it up, inspected and lubed it, charged the 15 year old lipo and ran it for about 5 minutes. The battery is done. I don't even think it hit 40 MPH. Now I'm sad and need a $100.00 battery.

Scrolling RR, eBay, RCG and Facebook markets, I found this neat little helicopter called an Assault 100. I think I'd like to try that! I offered a trade for the helicopter with a bunch of spare parts and a NIB micro EDF. We made a deal and now I have 2 new toys to tinker with! Yay!!!

I just finished setting up the Hobbyking Assault 100. I'm kind of afraid of it. The smallest helcopter I have flown was a T-rex 450, and it was too small and twitchy for me 10 years ago! What should I expect during my first few hovers and flights from this little gem?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You choose a narrow way to enjoy the hobby with this little thing...

When days pass by, you are going to see that you will spend on this gadget a bunch of money.
That money will pay a serious RC helicopter, class 50 or serie 600.

If you want to spend some time alone with this gadget in your home no problem, but remember:
Don't look for spare parts.

I learned to fly with an X-cell 60. I've owned at least a dozen 30-90 size helis. So, I get it. This is a little toy. But, it gets me flying again for no out of pocket expenses.

After an initial hover, I'm pretty happy with it. It really had a rock solid feel that I was not expecting!

Unfortunately, the landing gear and battery fell off during that short hover... That caused me to chop the throttle and let it fall, breaking the main blades. I don't see any other damage though. I'm going to put a drop of thin ca on the press fit pegs, let it cure then press the gear back in place for a tighter fit. Let the fun resume!

Of course I went over the setup and made sure everything was tight! I even questioned if the landing gear/battery holder was sufficient. Apparently, it's not! 🤔Helicopters are cool!
