It's the same for all of the 700-800 Roban mechanics. I use the governor on my ESC and use 13.8 for the gear ratio, even with the helical gear set.
Got it so I will plug that in.

206 pilot I wouldn’t run motor up until I manually spun the motor a few times by hand to make sure the belt is not running high..
Perfect will do

@droneproz,

I'm building a Roban AS350 and Huey. I'm having issues with a Scorpion 560kv in particular the motor mounting holes and bearing support.

Can you share some light on this subject? Perhaps a picture of the motor section.

Thanks.

SHE FLIES!!! Maiden went very well on this bird. I did notice she needed a good pound of nose weight up in the front. Other than the WOW it flies amazing. Very docile and predictable Heli to fly.

I did do one flight last weekend and the 45deg gears stripped in flight. After looking at it carefully the gears seem to be gone from a loose mesh just by the looks of how they are eaten. I think there were a few things at play here

1. grease seems to be all gone ( what grease do you guys use?)

2. the tail bell crank wont allow you to fully tighten down on the screw that holds the bottom of the case. if you tighten too much you will hinder the movement of the crank. I plan to add a second washer to not allow the screw to compress the bearing this allowing it to be fully tightened. I feel under heavy loads this may allow case to give enough to affect mesh

3. I noticed ALL the nylon nuts seemed to have wore in, as if they had been used for months. They no longer had that tight feel, I will end up putting some good nylon nuts that have the blue plastic insert. I feel the old ones may had not held the case good enough thus causing it to loosen the mesh too.

Here are some pics, lucky heli landed safely

Yes the scorpion holes DO NOT LINE UP, its crazy bc its what's recommended. Thats why I went with EGO DRIFT as they were specifically designed for these heels and fit right in

Rich is dead on there! That's the first thing I do when I start fitting the tail and have had equal success.

I have been following along. Great build and thanks for sharing. I have the the same model and finally going to be getting back building mine now that I am back home in Idaho, been working in Florida for the past eight months.

I did redesign the servo layout for better geometry. However, with all the successful flights of these model with the stock servo location, I am not sure the effort will be worth it. But, it makes me feel better to have everything at 90 degrees at hover pitch.

I did document this on another site and I can do a thread here to show the design work if there is any interest. I see no need to do another full thread though, you have documented the build well. Although, I may share any modifications I do, again if there is interest in it.

Anyway, I have enjoyed your thread and thanks for taking the time to document it. I know it can consume a lot of time to create a thread! Here is my current servo layout. Thanks and talk soon.

Additionally, what recommendations are there for the 45 degree gears, I have not got to that point yet and might as well upgrade before putting that part together, with over 205 hours on Rich's machine, it makes sense to upgrade!

As long as you keep that 45 packed with a thick grease and don’t bang the tail into anything wen your flying and your gear mesh is good, mine look perfect for now no major issues or concerns for me.. Remember it’s a machine sooner or later parts will fail, u could have bran new 45 gears and a crack that u can’t see we’re the set screw goes that’s all it takes.. Rich

OK, thanks Rich. I thought I read or watched a video in the past that commented on using gears from Vario for the 45 gearbox. I will certainly take a good look at the gears and deburr any areas and relieve any sharp corners where a crack might form before final install. Like you said though, there might be a defect that can not be seen too. Maintenance and checking gear mesh is key.

I do have quick question on the motor, if you don't mind. I currently have the Scorpion HKIV 4035-450KV and like you have mentioned, it certainly will not work with the belt tension plate or main plate for that matter. The plate mounting holes are 30mm diameter spacing and the Scorpion is 25mm and 30mm diameter spacing as pictured. So I looked into the EGODRIFT 4035-460 as you have used and the technical drawing for the EGODRIFT is the same as the Scorpion on paper and is also 25mm and 30mm diameter spacing as pictured. So I am curious if the technical drawings are inaccurate on the EGODRIFT and they are actually 30mm diameter? Right now, I am not seeing a direct drop in, unless I have an older plate or something.

On another note, it also looks like the main plate for the motor mount is setup for 30mm diameter spacing as well and as you see pictured, with the 25mm spacing holes, there is no adjust-ability for the slider plate to move forward and aft to tighten and loosen the belt. Maybe I am missing something and this is a very noob question, just want to make sure before I order up the motor from EGODRIFT.

Additionally, I have some 6061 aluminum plate and can design and make a slider plate to work with the scorpion motors. However, with the main plate at 30mm spacing, there is no way for the slider plate to work with the 25mm diameter spacing holes. Unless you use two screws only, then it will work just fine. But, I would think you would want all four screws installed. Again, may be a noob question, but the only bad question, is one not asked? Thanks

I think I answered my own question while going through this, I do think that only two screws would be required and the way it was designed. Four screws would be better though IMHO. So, it looks like the Scorpion will work just fine with two mount screws, maybe a washer to help spread the load, but two should work just fine for this application. I just got thinking when I looked up the EGODRIFT and it has the same bolt pattern that the Scorpion does! Man, can you tell I have been out the Helicopter side of the hobby for awhile! Doh!
