Why NYC needs hospitals to close
The title is from an article from The New York Post published September 9, 2013
In 2005, Gov. George Pataki created the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century — better known as the Berger Commission, after me, its chairman.

Our hospital “right-sizing” recommendations included “48 reconfiguration, affiliation and conversion schemes, and 9 facility closures.” We called for the hospital community to downsize by more than 4,000 beds.

We’ve come a long way. Since the Berger Commission formed, 18 hospitals across the state have closed, including 12 in New York Cityyet health-care access hasn’t worsened.

Why is there a shortage of hospital beds in NYC now?...simple...high rise condos were more desirable than hospitals in 2013.

Here's an article in 2015 that describes the changes in NYC:
10 NYC Sites Transforming From Hospitals to Housing, Mapped
It seems like hospitals are being eaten up left and right by developers hungry to make a profit by converting the large city buildings into pricey apartments. One of the only hospitals below 14th Street, Saint Vincent's, was mostly razed to make way for the mindbogglingly-pricey luxury condos and townhouses of The Greenwich Lane, and if things go according to the current plan, Brooklyn's Long Island College Hospital will follow with a conversion close behind.

Here in Houston, there is a hospital on every street corner, but as of last week we only had 146 cases in the greater Houston area of about 7 million people.

Good grief Fauci is now saying the U.S. could face 200,000 coronavirus deaths.

Is that even possible?

Everything is possible
it would take a real disaster to get to those numbers. The Trump administration is giving a whole bunch of money and then some to get this thing under control. I just do not see how we could have 10k deaths in this first event. China was very aggressive and sort of regained control in 2 months or so. It will take a bit longer for the ol' USA to get the job done but I just do not believe we will get close to 10k deaths.
If we do get to >10k deaths, we can say we fail as a country to respond appropriately to this thing.

Not the official numbers but close enough:

https://www.covidvisualizer.com/

The "official" numbers are still being listed by the CDC. Now, most, if not all states are testing locally. So, keeping tabs with the actual numbers is not realistic. Therefore, the numbers being provided by the CDC are likely lower due to underreporting.
PS. You meant to say 200k cases? If so, that is highly possible indeed.

Stay home
Practice social distancing
Wash your hands

That for sure will help us slow down the transmission rates. China was super aggressive and it took a Herculean effort. Needless to say we cannot implement the same measures in the States without having a revolution. So, we need to use a lot of convincing which of course slows down the whole thing.

Dr. Vladimir Zelenko has now treated 699 coronavirus patients with 100% success using Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate, Zinc and Z-Pak

Last Wednesday, we published the success story from Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, a board-certified family practitioner in New York, after he successfully treated 350 coronavirus patients with 100 percent success using a cocktail of drugs: hydroxychloroquine, in combination with azithromycin (Z-Pak), an antibiotic to treat secondary infections, and zinc sulfate. Dr. Zelenko said he saw the symptom of shortness of breath resolved within four to six hours after treatment.

Now, Dr. Zelenko provides updates on the treatment after he successfully treated 699 COVID-19 patients in New York. In an exclusive interview with former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, Dr. Vladmir Zelenko shares the results of his latest study, which showed that out of his 699 patients treated, zero patients died, zero patients intubated, and four hospitalizations.
Dr. Zelenko said the whole treatment costs only $20 over a period of 5 days with 100% success. He defines success as “Not to die.” Dr. Zelenko first posted his Facebook video message last week calling on President Trump to “advise the country that they should be taking this medication.”

I saw that.
If Drs. Fauci and Birx are sayin that, we better listen. I cannot even begging to imagine the consequences. In my many years working in public health, this is the very first time I hope both of them are wrong.

What the heck is going on with Dr. Fucci???

Earlier he said the US could have 200,000 deaths. Now he writes the US may see less than 1%:
Dr. Fauci: Coronavirus death rate like very bad flu
'Considerably less than 1%,' he writes in New England Journal of Medicine

Regarding the current coronavirus pandemic, they said: "If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%."

Taking into account the unreported cases, they conclude "that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively."

https://www.wnd.com/2020/03/dr-fauc...e-like-bad-flu/
I'm confused and caught between "we're all gonna die" and "nevermind".

Dr Fauci's article was published Mar 26, 2020:

I actually believe that the 1% figure is more accurate. However, what matters is what we can demonstrate. Cases are always underreported -mild and non-symptomatic cases. So, we should currently have ~300k total cases. With all the measures I expect the death rates to reduce significantly, like it happened in China if we believe their official reports.

The American people are being used as Pawns, in a huge chess game. Power hungry Mayors and Governors have chosen sides and the American public is going to suffer the most. They are still being paid Congress has adjourned and now is voting from home. This Country is being split right down the middle having to choose a side RED or Blue? The media has laid down on their job years ago and we are having to pay the price for it. They have chosen a side which has tilted the scales in the favor of one side. The media was supposed to be neutral and investigate both sides to keep things fair but chose to sleep with the enemy, while pretending to investigate them. It is blatantly obviously they are bias.

This rift will never be patched up until it comes to blood shed just the Hatfield's & McCoy's

During this time the American Constitution has been shredded by civil orders by power hungry dictators whether it is City County or States pushing out mandates that violate the Constitution. Freedom of Religion is the first one of many.

The reason there have been so may deaths just like Italy I am sorry to say it is low hanging fruit. The weak in infirm are the first to go. After that the death rate will drop. Lifestyles is the second commonality. If you take away the top 4 States NY. NJ. MA. & MI. the country does not have a problem. Take away living like ants in apartments and mass transit the rest of the country can open back up for business.

I generally do not disagree with you except for the blood shed. Oh, I believe it will happen one day, but more on a class level, then blue vs red, lib vs con, etc. The large Demoncratic led cities are suffering the most, THIS should wake the sheeple up....but I have few hopes that it will.

Down here in Texas I have a friend that runs a BBQ house, and he cannot buy Brisket and the price when he can get it has almost doubled. Wait for food shortages, and see if there is blood shed. Start depriving the sheeple of food a basic need, more that toilet paper and there will be riots. I am hearing different theories on why there are shortages. The one commonality is trucking if something disrupts it, bad things will happen. Our economy is a domino field. Sometime the smallest things will disrupt the field and once they begin to fall there is no stopping it. The good news is oil prices are rising. One of out problems is this was a double whamie with this fake virus and oil collapse.

The deaths are real. The tests confirm the infection. The most affected states are the center. Without the radical measures we would be seeing a similar situation in the rest of the country.
I agree, we can't keep the world closed. However, we should have a very clear protocol to open the country for business. More importantly, we the people, should use common sense. Physical distancing had to be our new normality.
