Al Austria 1,500+ deaths in the US due to COVID-19 today:
Al, I know these are not your charts, but what I find very interesting is that by these charts nobody has ever recovered from COV-19. All I see in these charts is doom-gloom, which is what the media is promoting to the sheeple. I saw Chris Como was still doing his show along with interviews, Tom Hanks hosted SNL, the PM left the hospital. I have a three friends that swear they have already had it in January coming off of a cruise and they worked the entire time. When you own a backhoe all you see are a bunch of holes in you back yard. The media needs to be talking about the glass being half full not half empty.

SoCal Scott Judging by the downvotes on my post that contains factual scientific information, I’d wager you and another particular member are not really looking for truth
1)Your OPINIONS do not equal facts you stated on several occasions you could not find the facts. There are a whole bunch of WORTHLESS OPTIONS but I guess you choose to take those for fact. Fine I get it your stance is clear "ignorance over reality". No it's nothing to find joy in. No smiley face from me.
SoCal Scott It’s evident you aren’t fearful of this because you either 1. Don’t understand; or 2. Don’t want to understand.
2)Fear nope, understanding yes. I understand the situation very clearly, you dont know me to make claims I dont understand or dont want to, again states your continued ignorance.
SoCal Scott Don’t you think its odd our big macho conservative US President Trump is willing to tarnish his legacy following the Obama administration by willingly letting our economy crumble? You’re right they’re not telling us everything. It’s probably far worse if Trump is onboard with the measures being taken. Spin “were not being told the truth” harder next time for me please.
3)Are you on his task force or and in close contact with Trump or Obama or anyone in the governments administration. I am not nor do I care to make any claims to understanding his or the administration decisions.
Again to make such statements is ignorant.
SoCal Scott In conclusion, keep at home and in a year or two when this all blows over, I’m sure you’ll be the one of the first to say “well only X amount of people died!! The whole thing was overblown/hoax/pick your adjective”. And well... that means our efforts to mitigate this thing was successful and we can move on - hopefully more prepared and vigilant for the next pandemic
These are your conclusions, your willing to post this on a public forum as an intelligent conclusion.

Ok, well you continue to reveal your....never mind you wont understand it anyways.

In MY conclusion, I say thank you for proving yourself so wise, and knowing. I pray for all of you and yours safety, peace and much love. I dont fear the disease. I am much more concerned of what could be the coming as a result. No matter the truth or reality of the disease our lives and way of life will be for ever changed.

Calm down there bud. Hmm odd. So as a healthcare professional with the educational background to tell you for a fact that coronavirus and influenza are not the same dangers, you’re going to tell me it’s an opinion? That’s rich. Please, do tell me how I am wrong and how it’s all an opinion

Here’s my source, it’s a book that’s sitting right in front of me: Fundamentals of Molecular Virology 2nd Edition. I’d be willing to buy you a copy so you can educate yourself on the subject matter.
elmobad Are you on his task force or and in close contact with Trump or Obama or anyone in the governments administration.
No. Neither of us are. And unfortunately the people making these decisions happen to have sort of insight into what we’re dealing with... almost like they have some sort of credentials to make decisions regarding a massive health threat. But what do I know
elmobad Ok, well you continue to reveal your....never mind you wont understand it anyways.
Please do! I’m curious to hear what you have to say. And make it better than simply calling me or others ignorant and telling us how much you understand. Show me, don’t tell me. Third grade stuff here.
Jerry K All I see in these charts is doom-gloom, which is what the media is promoting to the sheeple.
It’s on that website at the top of the page. It’s just not included on the screenshots. But an interesting side note: successful viruses don’t just kill everything in their path. They need to be highly infectious while not killing the entire population of infected(still need people walking around with it so it spreads efficiently), have a moderate prodromal phase, and shed long before anyone suspects they’re sick. Not to mention, many people are asymptomatic and can transmit it without ever knowing they had it. Also, people who are presymptomatic are transmitting it. That’s the scary bit with this. There’s a fine balance between these factors and coronavirus is checking all the boxes, unfortunately.

Its really kinda sad to me how much joy you are getting for being so opinionated?
Referencing that 9 year old book for what propose, what are you trying to prove. Here is some current data. Not that it matters to me but you seem to care? So fine I will help you!
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/
Similarities: COVID-19 and the Flu
Symptoms
Both cause fever, cough, body aches and fatigue; sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
Can be mild or severe, even fatal in rare cases.
Can result in pneumonia.
Transmission
Both can be spread from person to person through droplets in the air from an infected person coughing, sneezing or talking.
A possible difference: COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route (see details below under Differences).
Both can be spread by an infected person for several days before their symptoms appear.
Treatment
Neither virus is treatable with antibiotics, which only work on bacterial infections.
Both are treated by addressing symptoms, such as reducing fever. Severe cases may require hospitalization and support such as mechanical ventilation.
Prevention
Both may be prevented by frequent, thorough hand washing, coughing into the crook of your elbow, staying home when sick and limiting contact with people who are infected. Social and physical distancing can limit the spread of COVID-19 in communities.

Differences: COVID-19 and the Flu
Cause
COVID-19: Caused by one virus, the novel 2019 coronavirus, now called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2.

Flu: Caused by any of several different types and strains of influenza viruses.

Transmission
While both the flu and COVID-19 may be transmitted in similar ways (see the Similarities section above), there is also a possible difference: COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route, meaning that tiny droplets remaining in the air could cause disease in others even after the ill person is no longer near.

Antiviral Medications
COVID-19: Antiviral medications and other therapies are currently being tested to see if they can address symptoms.

Flu: Antiviral medications can address symptoms and sometimes shorten the duration of the illness.

Vaccine
COVID-19: No vaccine is available at this time, though it is in progress.

Flu: A vaccine is available and effective to prevent some of the most dangerous types or to reduce the severity of the flu.

Infections
COVID-19: Approximately 1,860,011 cases worldwide; 557,590 cases in the U.S. as of Apr. 13, 2020.*

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

Deaths
COVID-19: Approximately 114,983 deaths reported worldwide; 22,109 deaths in the U.S., as of Apr. 13, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Since this disease is caused by a new virus, people do not have immunity to it, and a vaccine may be many months away. Doctors and scientists are working on estimating the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be higher than that of most strains of the flu.

elmobad Referencing that 9 year old book for what propose, what are you trying to prove.
You... I.... bahahah dude. That’s the argument you’re going to make? It’s a book about the genetics and a brief epidemiology of the major families of viruses, not that you would understand. 9 years ago this book was written based on *currently relevant and accepted* understanding of viruses, and 9 years doesn’t change how these viruses fundamentally work. Care to comment on anything that’s in that book?

Nice you copy-pasted something from John Hopkins that still doesn’t address my comment. I don’t think you even understand what you’re arguing for or against anymore. An alternative option: “I don’t have enough knowledge of a subject to make an informed opinion” is always one you can take.

I see you like to downvote things you don’t understand and upvote yourself. You may want to reread your Mark Twain quote and consider whether it applies to you

Again with the ignorant happiness?

What does that book have to do with our economy or the validity of shutting down our lives. Do to a virus?

You... never had one.

You post something from John Hopkins that gives a brief overview and right there they explicitly state that and influenza are different organisms altogether. So, you actually proved my point to yourself.
elmobad What does that book have to do with our economy or the validity of shutting down our lives. Do to a virus?
Right there. That’s my point. Because if you understood how viruses work, you would not be comparing COVID with the flu. By extension, you would understand the economy would be in a far worse place had we done nothing. And you would understand that the people making these decisions to close borders and issue lockdowns are far smarter than you or I. So if you think things should be done differently, and you have all of the “facts”, go run for office. But first, educate yourself. Fox News doesn’t count, sorry.

You’re so hellbent on trying to prove you aren’t listening to anything but “facts”, it’s evident you don’t even know you are the one perpetuating disinformation.

Otherwise:

I have asked many, what is the plan? Every business should have a 5 year plan as a road map directing the business to the end goal. This virus has an R0 of 3.0 which means every Man, Woman & Child is going to come down with it eventually, given enough time. We are also told it may slow down through the summer and then strike again in the cooler months. The medical experts tell us to control it, we have to shut down the economy and everyone has to SD. Ok, I got that, now what? When is it over, how do we identify victory??

We are told there will not be a vaccine for 18 months, so do we remain shut down until that point. What is an acceptable amount of deaths? We as a society cannot shut down our lives for an undetermined period of time. Keep in mind 60% of the population lives paycheck - paycheck. after missing their first pay check they are stressed. The second they are in crisis, and the third they cannot feed their family. They have house notes/rent, they have car notes, they have living expenses. We are coming up on the second right now, and I hear food pantry's are now being stressed.

My question is, what is the 1 mo plan? We are 3 weeks into it!
What is the 3 mo plan?
What is the 1y plan?
What does success look like?
What is an acceptable death rate???

Like I said when you own a backhoe your yard is full of holes. This means when you ask the medical experts how do we control the virus their answer is to "have everyone stay home". They do not consider the implication of what they are asking for with an open ended statement like that.
WHAT IS THE PLAN???

Yes, I read it, but it contains no logic. Claiming I am passing off my concerns as my beliefs is saying I believe have all the info, on the contrary. I am in a constant state of fact finding. But you have yet to generate any new information. I keep seeing the same old one sided arguments on how many people die from covid 19. When the fact is those numbers themselves have been proven to be not consistently accurate.
SoCal Scott Right there. That’s my point. Because if you understood how viruses work, you would not be comparing COVID with the flu.
So Both are not illness that one could contract? got it never disagreed with you, but you keep saying it over and over. Do you not understand it?
SoCal Scott By extension, you would understand the economy would be in a far worse place had we done nothing.
By Nothing, what do you mean? Again you are making foolish assumptions on my behalf.
SoCal Scott And you would understand that the people making these decisions to close borders and issue lockdowns are far smarter than you or I.
Closing borders absolutely, issuing lock downs is illegal and unconstitutional. (I am sure you enjoy living under the freedoms of the constitution but by make deals that make it easy for politicians for whatever reason even if it makes sense at the time is a dangerous road to walk)to Making logical requests of people to use logical safe practices yes. Taking necessary steps to close down Hotspots Like NYC, Washington and Louisiana sure. Dealing with outbreaks as they happen, YES. A blanket shutdown of a national economy is a death sentence.
SoCal Scott So if you think things should be done differently, and you have all of the “facts”, go run for office. But first, educate yourself. Fox News doesn’t count, sorry.
It is a really sad state of affairs that you concluded a political stance is the answer. As far a Fox News is concerned they are a business, there job is to tell people what they want to hear to make money. Not sure they are the best use for fact finding.
SoCal Scott You’re so hellbent on trying to prove you aren’t listening to anything but “facts”, it’s evident you don’t even know you are the one perpetuating disinformation.

If you had proof you’d be citing your sources of how the numbers are inaccurate. “Not constantly accurate”. What does that even mean? Like it’s occasionally accurate or? Perhaps you mean the data has been interpreted all wrong?
elmobad issuing lock downs is illegal and unconstitutional.
Where does it explicitly say “the government shall not issue an order to keep its citizens from knowingly spreading disease”. This actually brings up a curious question about the American idea of “freedom”. You say it’s freedom to go out and choose to do what you wish. But somehow you don’t take a stance of “freedom from disease”.

SD must be working for us, because we are the lowers in the #/1m columns in Al's charts.

Then take away the 4 top lines on the top of the chart and the US doesn't look to bad.

My take away, live like ants, and suffer the consequences. Al's charts don't lie I am told!

BTW soon we are going to have a wall on both the southern and eastern borders.
