Mandatory Stay-at-Home-Order
This is my very first day of a state issued (now county enforced) Stay-at Home Order. After one day of this cr*p it is obvious to me that the Order will stay in place until more people are killed by boredom or frustration than killed by a virus.

Anyway, let me start this saga by saying It's been a very long time since I seriously damaged a helicopter. In the my last two fly days (I fly Tue, Thur and Sat) I managed to bust up two same type machines. The first was 100% my dumb thumbs; with the second one I became a spectator about 30 seconds before the flight ended. So, at least the Order will give me an opportunity fix helis. Here is my progress so far:

The first thing I did was to go out to my shop to assess the damage to both machines. Today was the first time in about a week, or more, that there is no snow on the ground. The significance of the weather/snow is that is the shop is at -50F (or so). So I say to myself, "self, let's move this repair project into the nice warm house".

After a brief conversation with this outfit's CEO (my wife) I decided it would be OK to take my busted up heli into my man cave (used to be a kid's bedroom) and move all the computer stuff, tax stuff, etc. off to the side and use my desk as a work bench. So, in comes busted up heli #1.

After the heli came into the house/cave I needed to bring in a selection of tools needed to disassemble the heli. Everyone here on RR probably thinks they know which tools they primarily use to work on their machines. That is a myth. I'd say I made just over a million trips back and forth to the shop to grab a needed tool that I can't even remember ever using before. Also, as the disassembly process proceeded, dirt, grass, small pebbles, and oil soaked stuff fell out of the corpse on to the floor. I would then walk through the mess and out to the shop for another tool leaving a trail of debris from the cave to the shop door. That quickly prompted a call from the CEO's office to the custodial staff (me) that a quick reaction clean up team was needed on aisle five.

I fly Century Predators and a lot of different flavors of Excel machines. Over many years I have gathered a very large pile of parts for both kinds of machines from buy outs, shops going out of business, and buying used machines for use as part sources. Several years ago it became obvious that some sort of inventory system was needed. I made a giant pile of heli parts in the shop and began going through the pile putting part numbers into a spread sheet and then storing the parts in some sort of organized manner. It turns out that no matter how big your pile of parts is, there will ALWAYS be something you need. My first stop in a parts search is almost always Ebay although Miniature Aircraft in Germany has never disappointed me. Century parts are now pretty much unobtainium. So, I made a pile of the parts I thought I would need for the rebuild of the two Excel machines. Needless to say, from experience I already know that the pile of replacement parts is not big enough.

In short order I will start reassembling busted heli #1. Here are some helpful tips for you that I have learned along the way so far.....

1. You will eventually knock everything off your workbench/desk while moving a big heli around to work on it.

2. A laptop screen is not a strong as a tail boom.

3. An inventory system is not as good as it should be if you are not smart enough to update it when adding or removing a part.

4. Make sure a cracked fuel tank is COMPLETELY empty before bringing a broken heli into the house.

5. No matter how big your parts stash is there will always be at least one needed part that you don't have.

6. You can never buy only one thing when surfing Ebay with "Miniature Aircraft" selected as your search criteria.

7. Don't ever buy a used machine to become a parts source. You won't be able to stand it until you have put that machine back into flying status.

God, I do love this hobby..................................
The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Dumb.... it's way more then Dumb.
Unconstitutional and Illegal yes. These liberal Democrats have no right to enforce these "orders".

"1st amendment is first for a reason. 2nd amendment if 1st does not work out"

Should we as a society use caution absolutely, should we a society limit OURSELVES (by our choice) from large events sure.

Should the gobernment A-holes force
businesses to close, force people to stay in our homes, NO "f***ing way".

Like I have been saying forever. Keep saying yes or ok or whatever you need to say to pacify yourself into think "the government is doing it for our own good".

Saying NO becomes harder and harder to say untill one day, that day is come closer and closer. Saying NO wont be any option...

Among other hobbies, I shoot guns. Nothing special. Just me and some friends killing some paper from time to time. Not too long ago it was nearly impossible to buy .22 rounds. For those that don't know, buying .22LR is typically comically easy. Often you can buy it in buckets of 5,000 rounds for just a few dollars. The beauty of .22 is that you can shoot 500 rounds in an afternoon for pennies.

Never mind all that. For at least at few years it was all but IMPOSSIBLE to buy .22s. People went nuts buying and hording .22. Manufacturers were accused of reducing productions. Walmart limited the amount you could buy.

Who knew but a few year later it'd be Toilet Paper? "Flu season? Welp - better stock up on TP." WTF?

One of the important exceptions for "Shelter in Place" is getting outside for "exercise".
We walk everyday on a common trail and the only "mandate" is to maintain "Social Distancing" - at least 6' between us and the others on the trail.
There are people meeting at parks with their friends and sitting on blankets with at least 6' between the blankets.

Fly your heli at your club field or your own private field. Just keep your distance between you and the others.

Now, if you listen to some ignorant commentators on TV or web sites, they may try to make this a bigger deal than it really is.
But, don't be stupid and buy into their BS.
Unconstitutional and Illegal yes. These liberal Democrats have no right to enforce these "orders".
Normally, I'd recommend you finding someone with COVID-19 and giving them a big hug.
The problem is that then you'd infect your wife, parent or grand parent and they would die while you wouldn't.

I got cabin fever today and had to get out. One of my greater joys is going for a motorcycle ride out in the county. I clears my head and helps me organize my thoughts. Very cathartic.

As I was rolling along I started doing some mental math. Currently there are about 33,000 cases of this flu. Oddly enough there are about 330,000,000 Americans. So, to date, .01% of Americans have contracted this flu. Of those that have contracted the flu, about 400 have died. So about .00012% of Americans have died with this.

These thoughts came to me as I'm rolling along on a motorcycle on a two lane country road at 110 kph in the the most wonderful warm spring rainstorm. Anyone want to work up the statistics on that activity?

There are cases that are not being reported.

The virus has been circulating in the community for 4-6 weeks already before diagnose [evident in WA and NY]. We’ll all know sooner if everyone takes it serious or we’ll drag it on a lot longer if some people still think it’s hype and unknowingly keep the virus in circulation.

If we all do our part, we don’t have to part of the statistic and keep on enjoying our “toys”

Really...... that's what you get from what I wrote!!!
elmobad Unconstitutional and Illegal yes. These liberal Democrats have no right to enforce these "orders".
I never once said don't be safe or take necessary step to be cautious, to be clear. I said and quote:
elmobad Should we as a society use caution absolutely, should we a society limit OURSELVES (by our choice) from large events sure.
My point it should be "OUR" choice........

At what point is it ok for the government to take away our choice (dont be ignorant either and say I am saying its ok to do anyone or anything harm). I am speaking of logical normal general living life. At what point is it ok to "FORCE" the population to do anything if it can be done safely like run a small business.

That's my question!! When will you say its not ok?

For you to write:
ticedoff8 I'd recommend you finding someone with COVID-19 and giving them a big hug.
GO F*** yourself!!!!! To even say that its more then ignorant! I have no beef with you or anybody on this forum. For you to say you want any harm to come to any person especially my WIFE or FAMILY to make a point you should be ashamed!

So to make it super clear for you because you seem to be confused. Do I think EVERYONE should do there part to stay safe, YES I DO. Do I want all this craziness to end, YES I DO. RIGHT NOW, I am more fearful of the leftest politicians causing more damage then this virus. YES I AM!

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” – Benjamin Franklin

Heli Fanatix This is when people are allowed to make their own decisions
Ok and ?

Wait a second that's right we live in the USA.... I am sure if you really tried you could find a lot more examples of people doing things that could be possible dangerous to themselves and others. I am not endorsing poor decision makeing. DO NOT TRY TO SAY I ENDORSED THERE POOR DECISION MAKING!!!

The point is ITS THERE DECISION TO MAKE. Not yours not mine and especially not the political leaders.

No one is being forced to attend that event. Are those people taking unnecessary risk, yes I agree with you. Is this the first or the last time people are not smart, not likely.
So then, leave that's plain and simple. If you feel unsafe, leave. If you are at someone house and they said let's be stupid, you can be stupid and face the consequences or you can leave. Go home and stay home if that's your choice, WE all have to account for our OWN actions.

I think everyone is trying to figure out if this flu really is dangerous, or just "Known to the State of California" to be dangerous. Let's be honest, no one listens to California anymore. And Cuomo is simply psychotic. The above YouTube video of Cuomo getting pissed that no one is listening to him suggests not all New Yorker's care for his dictatorial style. I hit the mute button on these two states decades ago.

I'm not saying California and/or Cuomo are wrong. I'm saying their opinion no longer has any value to me. The threat of a possible global heath issue shouldn't be political but I can't help but notice the loudest voices are often coming from sources I don't respect. Sadly, it muddies the discussion. Any discussion of how we proceed is going to have to exclude a state that puts a label on a bag of nuts reading:
California requires the following notice:

WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Why don't you take yourself down to one of the ICU units in a hospital in an area that are having a lot of cases. This is just getting going and Michigan Hospitals are already running out of ventilators. It's very easily spread and while you don't seem to care about you getting sick many are and will. I've noticed your lack of concern in other posts about those who are high risk. Not everyone of those gave themselves the high risk factors. Is it just your natural selection mentality that does that? You seem to be a very selfish person. Could be wrong. I'm guessing you would act different if it happened to someone you care about or yourself because healthy people are dying too or is that what you are going to call "fake news?" Ask Italy if it's fake that they are picking people who aren't going to get treatment.

Nope, I am not discussing soccer here. Same virus (well, at least that's what we think with the preliminary genetic data), very different outcomes (hurricane category). We can have a cat 2 (crappy no matter what) or a cat 5 (chaos). It would be great if everyone would listen and practice distancing but as heli fanatix showed, people (a bunch of them) do not follow guidelines. Result, the feds need to get involved. It is like the antivaxers, they do not vaccinate their kiddos, when the little ones get infected they infect other kids that really cannot be vaccinated (immune compromised, susceptible allele, etc). Result, children that could have very productive lives die unnecessarily and that destroy their families -horrible outcome. It is a shame that we lose 1000s of still very productive people every year to influenza. We should do much better. Same thing for covid-19, we should not be ok with people perishing because of this virus. We must do better. I can't understand people that tell me, well influenza kills more people. Well, it shouldn't, we have the tools, we must do a better job preventing people from dying from things they shouldn't.
