The media is a formidable opponent
AND they are willing to destroy this country to defeat DJ Trump. Every time I turn on the news this is all I am hearing about 6 people in this state, or 10 people in that state. Most of the deaths have been people that have comprised health condition. Don't get me wrong, it is sad when anyone dies, but it has been going on since the beginning of time. Every day 7452 people die equaling 1 every 12 seconds. The Mexican beer virus so far has killed 12 people so far in the US. This means MBvirus has killed less people than of other causes, in time than it takes to type out a simple post.

This is a concerted effort to destroy Trump, Never let a good crisis go to waste is the democrats methodology and in the end destroying the country!!!

I completely agree. I don't know if it is all of them out to get the President, but they certainly ALL ARE adding to the hysteria of this flu virus...just like any other flu virus...IDK these idiot's have locked on to this one hard...slow news cycle? President Trump is winning? IDK...but it is dangerous and really sh#tty reporting. Feed the hysteria, that is ALL they are doing now for ratings.

There is actual damage to the world ecconomy as a result of temporary business closures and travel restrictions... Most of which is in China. I have no doubt many in the media are all about drama and distruction, it is all about ratings, selling to folks who allowed fake wrestling to move from just after the saturday morning cartoons to primetime...

Company Guidance for profits mentions Corona possibly even more than the media does....

I had a look at death rates for flu on the CDC website. As a percentage, it is much lower than i thought. The preliminary numbers for this new flu are quite a bit higher, yea it sort of is the flu, but maybe as much as 35 times more lethal, (?) It is no great plague, but it is not just the flu either...

Never let a good crisis go to waste, was my quote above. The democrats want to destroy Trump, and they are taking advantage of the situation. I heard a year ago they wanted to create a recession to minimize his re-election. Is there a health concern, I am sure the ones that died will say yes, and I am sure it is, but the media sells bad news. They have hyped this one as far as they can. If you remember there have been many diseases that were going to wipe us out, but where are they today? SARS was going to kill us all off and 5300 people were affected with 349 deaths. This is simply the disease of the election year.

So why is Fox News pushing the story? Are they also trying to swing the election? I suppose the CDC and WHO (who declared it a pandemic today) and even the president who has gone to Congress to try to get tax relief are all operatives working against the Republican Party.Nick Crego

the NBC Vermont news said tonight> that there is a lot of misinformed info out there on the corona virus.

I said to the wife, how stupid of them to say that, who is guilty of that misinformed info.

after I said that^ to my wife the news showed a women doctor saying pretty much the same stuff that Trump as been saying all this time, that> "the corona virus is not that big of a threat to healthy people, they can take care of themselves at home"

Gearhead, you are correct. Foxnews, is just as guilty as all of the rest for the spread of BS and hysteria. 'Never let a good crisis go to waste' sums it up best. Be safe, be prudent, and you will be fine. I have two young daughters, and they are all I care about. I have talked to them about it, and they get it. If they can, why can't everyone else? STOP with the hysteria....and OMG, out of toilet paper? Seriously?

Right now we do not know who is on the right side of this huge snowball, in 6 mo. we will be able to look back and it will be clear. If 50% of the worlds population has been killed off we can all say they were right. BUT if it turns out that it was overblown it WILL be the medias fault. Right now the entire US economy is crashing and I am betting on nothing comes of it. The beer virus that is.

I repeat the MEDIA is a formidable opponent!

Here is the problem as I see it. Have you seen this reported on the nightly news? No! I do not watch much main stream news because of all of the other items they have blown out of proportion. Bad news sells, and they are in the business of selling. The MEDIA has 2 choices here. Report each individual death as though 5 more, and we will be at the end of the world, or begin minimizing the bad news and promote this type of article.

Relax everyone and turn off the news. Their job is to scare you. Here is what everyone in healthcare already knew. It’s a good read.

Perspective on COVID-19;

From an MD immunologist:

I don't post a lot on facebook but I would like to give my perspective and context on the coronavirus outbreak. I hope I can be a more reputable source of perspective as a physician who specializes and is board certified in immunology (as well as pediatrics, allergy and dermatology).

1. Coronaviruses are a family of viruses. "coronavirus" is not unique to this particular strain. Everyone reading this has likely had another different coronavirus infection. This particular strain has been named COVID-19.

2. Every upper respiratory virus has the potential to be lethal. Patients unfortunately die from many upper respiratory viral infections every year - most prominently the influenza virus. 30,000 people died from the influenza virus in 2019. The media didn't report each one. They have reported all 11 coronavirus deaths. Not telling us about the people lost but rather keeping a death "toll".

Let me repeat that:
-Coronavirus: 11 deaths (US in 2020), 3300 deaths (China in 2020).
-Influenza: 30,000 deaths (US in 2019).

*Influenza pandemic of 1918: 675,000! (US), 20-50 MILLION!! (worldwide) <---These people I think would have been in favor of receiving their annual flu vaccine.

This is not meant to minimize any of these deaths but rather to give context and put some facts to the hysteria.

3. If you're healthy, there is no need to walk around wearing a mask. In addition to looking silly and most of the time wearing/taking them off wrong - which would actually make you more prone to acquiring an infection, they don't prevent you from getting sick. If you're actually sick stay away from people and then, sure, wear a mask so you aren't spreading respiratory droplets every time you cough/sneeze. In medicine we don't wear the masks you're buying and we wear other protective equipment - not just a silly looking mask you found on Amazon. When you see doctor's walking around the world wearing a mask then you should too. Until then, stop.

4. The symptoms are that of the flu. As doctors we don't test or know about most people with mild or moderate flu symptoms. That means most people will probably get it and just think they had the flu. That means you're only going to hear about the cases that get serious - not all the minor ones which will be the vast majority of cases.

5. When it is said that people who are older or have other medical conditions are most likely to die - that is equally true for EVERY upper respiratory virus. There is nothing unique about that to this particular virus. It does mean that the only cases we tend to know about are the severe ones. Once a case is severe it then makes sense to test the patient to find out what virus in particular they have. That means you can easily overestimate how severe or lethal the virus is because the only cases you end up knowing about are the serious ones.

In summary 30,000 people died from the flu last year. Another 30,000 died in car accidents.

I remember: H1N1 (2009), MERS (2012), Ebola (2014), Coronavirus (2020).

Take it from me: The poor resident who stood at the door of the ER to triage people in 2009's swine flu (H1N1) hysteria. The over reaction is exponentially worse than the actual problem and in 2020 the over reactions I'm seeing are remarkable. In cold and flu season you'll probably get sick once or twice for about a week each. You might even get this particular coronavirus and most of you won't even know it. I've seen people raiding supermarkets, major meetings and sporting events getting cancelled and fear/racism towards Asian people. These reactions are totally unnecessary and panic based. Just do what you've always done during cold/flu season. Stay away from other people when you're sick, wash your hands and keep them away from your face, and only go to the ER if you feel your symptoms are more severe than a bad cold/flu (shortness of breath, high fever, etc.). And also realize you can't live on earth and not get viral illnesses from time to time. It's a part of nature.

Please don't ask for antibiotics (those treat bacteria - not viruses). Thats like asking for a fire extinguisher when you're drowning. It can be a life saving device - but the wrong one for the problem at hand. Some doctor's don't want to fight about it when patients insist on antibiotics so they just prescribe them - but it doesn't mean its actually helping you and in some cases they can be harmful (resistance, infections, allergic reactions just to name a few). If you're one who asks for antibiotics every time you're sick, again, take it from me: ask for a flu shot each year and a doctor's note to stay home from work when you're sick instead. You will be much better off.

The government is very proud that testing will be available to every American. Remember, we don't test for any respiratory virus other than the influenza virus routinely. The reason is thats the only virus that has a treatment (pill) you can take to shorten the duration of severity of the illness. I suspect if we start testing everyone with cold symptoms for coronavirus we're going to find lots of it. It's not going to change the recommendations to stay home and rest. And its not going to predict the small percentage of people who may develop more severe symptoms. Essentially whether someone has coronavirus 19 or some other cold/flu virus isn't going to matter to your doctor. What it will do is slam urgent cares, ER's and hospitals with every patient who has a cold so they can be tested. It is much more sensible to reserve testing for patients requiring hospitalization or more advanced treatments. Even that wouldn't change their management but would be more to confirm the diagnosis and to not waste time looking for other causes of the patients symptoms.

In conclusion, yes there is a novel virus that our immune systems haven't seen yet so to get immune to it you will have to get infected - at least until a vaccine is developed to bypass the getting sick part and just jumping straight to immune. Most people's immune systems will do that effectively and be fine. A small percentage of unfortunate patients (primarily elderly, immune compromised etc.) will not be able to do that effectively and will need more advanced care. This is true of the cold/flu viruses we deal with every year. Follow normal cold/flu precautions and seek medical care if you feel your symptoms are severe. No need to get hysterical.

These outbreaks can be instructive for overall knowledge of public health. In particular showing your immune system the uniform of a potential invader (virus) so that if it ever sees a soldier wearing that uniform it will immediately attack and neutralize it without you ever getting sick. That is a wonderful thing and probably the single biggest achievement in medicine throughout human history. That is what vaccines are. The benefit to risk ratio of them are off the charts in favor of vaccines. If viruses like coronavirus scare you, then stay up to date on your vaccines and your immune system will be running the latest software.

If you still think you should be scared consider this: Doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff are going to hospitals every day. Crowded buildings with tons of sick people. They aren't walking around the halls of the hospitals wearing masks and they haven't stopped going to work. And they are all rolling their eyes at everyone else right now.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

Joseph Goebbels
We are living an enormous lie. As such, it is vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent... And that brings us to today. Whoever is responsible for spinning up this year's flu season into a "pandemic" is lying to us. Admittedly it appears to be more dangerous than last years flew. As with all illnesses, it has the potential to be the small push those already near death were waiting for to end their days on earth. That doesn't mean this virus requires the mass hysteria we are seeing.

It is our job to find out why this is being reported and treated the way it is.

Everyone is actually correct in their own “personal reality”. Now how much of that Aligns with the real world will be determined as time goes on.

People make decisions based on what they are aware of:
Some respond [the intelligent]
Some react il-rationally [the 80%]
Some flat out ignore

Anything taken out of context can be manipulated for any purpose & agenda.

If we stay calm, educate ourselves, communicate, be well spoken and informed... than we would be able to filter out the noise and recognize the good from bad. Listen and decide for ourselves otherwise someone will make plans for us and we aren’t going to like it.

Appreciate the fact we are not like China. Don’t make a bad situation worst. We all know what fear does to us whenever we fly our heli’s. It takes experience to deal with the fear so we don’t tense up, stare and complain after words.

We identify the issue, apply the strategies to solve it and work on it. Overtime all those nuances go away and everything becomes manageable and starts to be fun again.

We dumb thumb b/c our brain can’t recognize and process. After a while, we accept whenever we send it in... we soon stop complaining b/c we understand the eventuality of what we are involved in [nature of the hobby, Beast, etc]. Many ways to solve it ... ultimately one solution.

If it’s important, it’ll still be in the news weeks and months later. Listen, be aware of it and don’t let it disturb, be able to process it and go about our lives.

Take the next few weeks clean up the place, work on the project we’ve been meaning to get to, say hi to the neighbor and be happy we are not like other parts of the world not doing so well.

Everyone knows the left are out of control and the media love politically correct virtue signalling and victims speak. No argument there. But what is totally unbelievable is how paranoid Trump supporters are. The view from Australia of the USA is of a completely split and paranoid country with increasing levels of dysfunction. The fact is two things are going to eventually destroy the USA, China and your own paranoia driven disharmony and complete lack of compassion for anyone but your immediate families.

Australia and the United States have long been friends but nowadays most Australians look at you guys with amusement and utter bewilderment. That’s all good and well because Australia aren’t a threat to you. The problem you now have is China, Russia, North Korea and Iran rolling around on the floor in fits of laughter as you guys conspire to destroy yourselves with all of this BS about Trump and the big left wing socialist conspiracy. You all seem so scared but unfortunately your biggest enemies are within, yes look in the mirror people.

Much of the world have quite an affection for the United States and want you around. At the rate you’re going you will unfortunately fade into insignificance and mediocrity. Don’t let it happen.

Paul, You are correct on most of your points unfortunately! (I cannot tell your leaning from your post because it was mostly generic) I sincerely believe we have seen the top of the mountain and we are heading down hill.

For most of my life I was not too concerned, because I did not have a strong desire to raise kids. But 15 years ago we adopted a girl and in the past years as she is coming of age, I have come to realize what my generation is leaving our children. BTW I realize we (With the help of the media) have raised a generation of entitled kids the are not prepared to function in society. They are much to idealistic.

I relate it to the toilet bowl flush. Someone dumped a huge turd in the bowl. After the flush the water begins to rise, same time we have seen a rise of society. Now it is swirling around and getting all mixed up, swirling, swirling, We are now heading down into the sewer. There is no stopping it.

As you know we have had a huge debate over closing the southern US border. All of us on the right have been ostracized and called racist. The media is on the side of the left, and again see the point of my post. But let something happen in the US, and Mexico closed their Northern border. Are they racist? do they have a media? Has our media called them Racist?

I do not disagree with your summation! Do I like it, no! But some of us in the US are fighting the liberal left. In Texas we are at the Alamo! When Texas falls to the left the end of the US, is in sight. There will never be another Republican POTUS.

I believe it was the Governor of Colorado that gave a speech on the Destruction of America. He laid out how multiculturalism is going to lead to our demise. The left hangs its hat on it, and do not realize (Or maybe the do) what they are doing. In the US the immigrants (Which the US was built upon) used to assimilate, they do not anymore. All great societies only last about 200 years and we are over due.

I do not hear about MC going on in Australia but look at Europe, they are seeing the same thing. I will finish up with, the natural tendency is to fall down, because it takes tooo much energy to get up.

Since Australia was mentioned, I heard where Tom Hanks was diagnosed with Coronavirus 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I see pics of him driving around in Sothern California with his wife. It almost seems as though the media is portraying, coming down with corona as a badge of honor and we should feel sorry for them because they are going to die. We hear that the PM of Canada now has it. This is a direct jab at the media, and how they are lying to the stupid people in the US. They reported cases in the US topped 80,000 and 1,000 had died. Now it does not take a rocket scientist to realize 79,000 lived.

I have fond memories of Perth and Freemantle. People were extremely polite and courteous to us, well mostly. But every country has it's 10%. I met a really nice Indian woman there, and my best friend met his future wife, which she happened to be half Aboriginal. Oh, the stories I could tell you about the hate that they experienced. But, you probably know this already.
Yes, we are having a bit of tug-o-war over here, and it is getting quite nasty. And it to shall pass. Our so called 'Media' is actually adding fuel to the fire, and certainly not helping. But let me clarify a few things for you:

The problem you now have is China, Russia, North Korea and Iran rolling around on the floor in fits of laughter as you guys conspire to destroy yourselves with all of this BS about Trump and the big left wing socialist conspiracy.

The world had better hope we don't just give in to isolationism, because if we do, many of our 'allies' most likely will be learning a different language. Think it can't happen? Then think again. Keep that in mind while you say 'they are rolling around....' As for our Politics, again, the media has blasted their one-sided views around the world and not in a good way. What another country thinks of us, means absolutely nothing to me. Never has.

'But what is totally unbelievable is how paranoid Trump supporters are.'

I guess you haven't been watching current events, but really, you shouldn't be as this isn't your country. BLM, ANTIFA, all of the 'hate' groups were manifested by the left. Our own FBI going after our President from within, and on and on and on. So yeah, those of us on the right (conservative) do care a lot about our country and our Constitution and do not really care to see both side stepped and 'excreted' on. The left and the MSM only care about the Constitution if they can use it against the right. Other then that, they hate it.

As for President Trump: If you and your fellow countrymen do not like him, that is all well and good. Again, I really don't care. There are times I cringe when I hear what he says. But he is doing what he said he would do, and d@mn if that isn't a wonderful thing. Politicians these days rarely do. Have a great day and be safe. Australia really is a great place. Then again, you shouldn't really care if I think so or not.

Jeffy K:
I do not disagree with your summation! Do I like it, no! But some of us in the US are fighting the liberal left. In Texas we are at the Alamo! When Texas falls to the left the end of the US, is in sight. There will never be another Republican POTUS.

You are correct. If and when Texas falls, the chances of a Republican, or anything not a Demoncrat winning, is very slim.
