Well, I got the mechanics yesterday for this. I found a great deal on a "new, professionally assembled but never been flown" old school Trex 550E and yes, it has no signs of ever been being spun up. Score! Complete with all electronics including an Align 3G flybarless system (pre 3gx), that is going in the trash unless anyone wants it.
It was brought to my attention that the Funkey fuselage looks odd, not like the real thing. After staring at it for a while I feel that the tail boom is a little short. Thoughts?

Ron ,,
First off ,, good find ,, congrats .It is my opinion that some things don't make that much difference ... unless you have a lot of time and enjoy doing the mods more than flying
Ya it looks a little shorter but by the time you lengthen the fuse and the mechanics is it worth it ... it still looks like a Jet Ranger !!! and even if you want to compete with it ,, you will probably not loose many points for a shorter tail as most judges don't look at that as one of the grading things cause they don't have a tape measure and calculator to check it against the supplied documentation and you can add lots of small detail that will keep their eyes off it anyhow .
just my 2 cents

Thanks Larry, it has to be done or else it will bug me to no end
I have a stretched 600 that uses 640 mm main blades. I put that boom on it and it extends out about the correct looking length. The larger rotor disc will help out as well. The hardest part will be making the first cut lol.

Hi Ron
I had the same issue with the short tailboom. I decided not to lengthen it but sometimes wish I did.
Depending on the paint scheme the short tailboom is not so obvious. Here is mine and I guess I’ve just gotten used to it.

Hey Roy, that looks good. Yeah, it will bug the heck out of me. I will stretch it and reverse the tail rotor, and tie the paint scheme together as the fuselage needs wet sanding to smooth out the paint lines and re-cleared. I need something to do for the next month or so of hibernation anyway lol.

Hey Ron. All in all those pre painted Century / Funkey fuses are pretty nice looking. As you know I have the white and red JR and that thing fly's on rails. Got old trex 600 ESP in it. Those fuses were designed around the old trex 600. If you have got the unpainted version you have the option to easy put the rudder on the other side The 700 JR I'm doing will be clockwise rotation so I'm still on wrong side with the rudder. I bought their LG, scale-ish
I know you know what you doing. If you don't mind a suggestion, go 8s with it. You can stack the 4s and still get the canopy on. It will weigh about 12 pounds but will fly great at 1350 rpm. If you go 6s use a high C rating or it will be a battery killer. it will draw 30A continuous. Just sayin.

Dennis, interesting you brought up using 8S.
When I first built my Long Ranger I was flying on 6S. While it flew decently it felt like it needed more tuning or something. I then used 8S and it was like that heli woke up. Definitely flew much better. So definitely worth a try.

8s, hmmm. What motor and gearing? This old school 550e came with an align MX600 1220kv and a 170t main gear. I put a 13t pinion on it.
I will probably use 6000mah or so for balance.
