Miniature Aircraft X-Cell 60 tail rotor dampener
I have an old X-Cell 60 new to me. The dampener in the tail rotor hub p/n 0449 is unfamiliar to me. The part is hard to come by and it is described as silicone. Wouldn’t a piece of fuel tubing suffice? What size and how snug should it be? Any help from the old pros out there would be very much appreciated.

Congrats on owning an old XL60! Welcome to the club.

1) The part is available from Miniature Aircraft. https://www.miniatureaircraft.de/sh...rch&search=0449

If you didn't know already, they are in Germany now but they are very nice and shipping is not that big a deal.

2) I'm pretty sure it's just Tygon tubing so you can just buy some locally! Originally they used some other type of rubber material but later models used Tygon if i'm not mistaken.

Oh and as to size, I think just the regular size Tygon worked. It should be snug on the shaft. You can press the cross pin right through it once the hub and holes on the shaft are lined up.

Thank you for the reply.

Service has been great with MA in Germany. Unfortunately the part is listed but not in stock.

Thank you for the Tygon tip. I really appreciate the help.

Question...

With better servos and gyros on this days... Is it necessary to run this piece of tubing PN 449 on tail slider?

Chopper37 that is what I was hoping to hear. I figured guys who were flying these would come up with something simple because it must wears out over time.

Thanks for the input.

I went to a local hardware store and bought a couple feet of Tygon tubing. Most of it went for gasser fuel line, but a bit was used on X-Cell tail rotor hubs.-Kevin

Rojoalfa,
They are talking about the output shaft where the tail hub attaches. Back in the earlier X-cells the hub was over sized to use rubber / silicone tubing. Which an pin when through the hub and shaft with 2 - "C" clips also a set screw in the end of the output shaft to lock pin. Which they work fine. You had to put the hub on right. So pay attention to the plans. Now hubs are the same size as the shaft. I used the blue fuel line.
X-cell were one of the best helicopters made. I still fly them along with Kavan Jet Rangers.
So Rv6guy welcome to the X-cell club. If you need help just PM me .

Thanks
Dan

I see your point.
So this 449 it is like a "top".

Not sure what you mean by like a top. The pin must go in like the plans shows

The orignal kit came with the blue nitro fuel silicon tubing, the pin goes in at an angle as per the diagram. Excellent helicopter designed by Walt Schoonard, wish I had kept mine.
