CGY760R As a Tail Only Gyro
Hey, I know this question has been asked before in reference to the CGY750, but can a CGY760 be used as a tail only gyro (+governor)?

In the instance of the 750 I could see routing the 3 cyclic servos directly into my SB7008R receiver and setting up the model similar to how I might have set up a GY611 + GV-1. I'd simply ignore the functionality of the cyclic flybarless system. I have never set up a model this way and I still wonder how some of the forward-feed functions would work - but I believe it could be done.

The same question applies to the 760 but in this case the receiver is in the gyro and the cyclic servos must be plugged into the gyro. The 760 expect to control pitch and roll as well as yaw.

Has anyone ever installed a 760 in a flybared model?

This question comes as I try and keep my older models airborne. I just put new servos in one of my all-time favorite models only to find the 701 gyro needs servicing. Sadly, the repair parts don't exist at the moment so I'm grounded. In an effort to go fly I'm considering the only other gyro I know that combines both a great gyro and governor. That is, the 760.

If I can't make a 760 work, and if time passes and the 701s can't be repaired, I may pull one of my 611 gyros out of retirement along with a GV-1. I also have some Spartans and Multigovs not installed I could use.

The final solution might be to remove a 750 I currently have installed in my TSA 700N and put it in my flybared model. I could then put a 760 in the TSA. This would be my least desirable solution. Doing this would require de-constructing a good flying model only to have to re-set it up with a new gyro. Cannibalization (stealing parts from one aircraft to service another) may solve a problem but it triples the work.

If you are programming a FBL gyro and don't want to function as a FBL gyro, setup the gain in order that you have no correction action on servos. Adjust the gain to do that... So, no gain at all.

That is the way I would do.

It's been a few weeks for this thread and I'd like to explore this more...

Rojaoalfa, I assume you've done this before? I assmue you go into the 760 gyro setup and program the base gain to zero? You have actual experience doing this? Would you say the gyro then funtion very similar to a 701?

Can anyone else comment? Any suggestions or keys to sucess?

I'm very close to buying a 760 to get one of my model airborn again.

Bill,

I have done exactly that with CGY750 by setting the swashplate (ail & ele) gains to zero and it works just fine for FB setup; which I have done on a heli that I can either use FB or FBL head. So no reason why this would not work with CGY760R.

Hope that helps.

Yes. All FBL unit behave as a FB when you put zero gain on setup.

Of course, for testing, you can't do that on a FBL heli.

On setup, you need to confirm that swashplate remain still when you change orientation.

Thanks guys. I have returned from a week of travel and I received a 760 while I was away. I had intended to install it in one of my FBL 450 helis; but, I've really got the itch to fly my X-Cell again. My CarbonSE been sitting with new R1 servos for 3 months now and it's time to see the parts rotate."Well, nothing bad can happen now."
