Occasionally a day comes along that restores my faith in this hobby. Yesterday we had nearly perfect weather for flying. Adding to that, a friend and fellow club member had his latest project out for spin. I hadn't seen his TRex 550 since he had installed the MD 500 fuselage (body?). It really looked good. Not only did it look good, it was pleasure to watch airborne.

I suppose there are a lot of ways to "do" scale. In the case of the MD 500 from this weekend, I was really impressed with how little the fuselage affected the model. Not only was the model really good looking, it just flew great. It was clear it was fun to fly.

Kinda gave me the itch to put a fuselage on one of my models.

Once you add a fuselage to a pod/boom heli, there is no going back

Here is my Bell 212, all finished except for decals, I was going to sell it before it was finished because I was having an issue with the tail, I solved the problem and went ahead and finished it up, now I don't know if I want to sell it.

Do it Bill!

Gentlemen, I have been away from the scale helicopter world for about 15 years. After an aborted start 3 years ago, I recently jumped back in and built a Trex 550X. Shortly thereafter, the Trex was wearing a Funkey 600 size MD-500E fuselage. The bird has about 5 hours of flight time on it now. I have added a lighting package, a working cargo hook (own design), and the wiring for a soon-to-be-delivered bambi bucket from Tyler Gray Models. My wife even sewed some blade tiedowns for me. I have enjoyed this little sport scale project immensely.

I would like to thank (or maybe blame) the heli guys at my field for inspiring me to try helicopters again. And I am looking forward to more scale helicopter projects this summer.

Looking good! I’ve been getting out my 600 UH-1N these past few weeks. Excellent flying aircraft, still working on the last few details.

I picked up this Vario XL Jet Ranger. It normally uses Benzin mechs but it came without them. I’m thinking of installing a Trex 700 but it looks like that will require some Modification. We shall see 😬
First thing I did tho was fix the exhaust stacks and placed them in the typical JR location and covered the old holes with screen to simulate the intake vents

Two thumbs up! I am a beginner with my goal of someday getting into scale helicopters. I am not very far from you and maybe we will cross paths someday and you could give me some beginner points. Thanks, Gene
