Hi. Can anyone give me a heads up on this gyro.
1 Can it only be used with 120 degree swashplates.
2 Can you just power it up without connecting the radio to upgrade the firmware.
Ta.

There are a few pretty good setup videos on YouTube on this gyro..... I’m sure you’ll find your answer and more there in....Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

1. No. FBL gyro works to stabilice aleron and elevator movement. Don't care about swashplate configuration.

2. Don't upgrade.
Upgrade programs usually fail and your 3GX become damage.

3GX- I still use these on my smaller Heli’s - not the easiest to set up with push button control- does my mind in!!!
1) It only works with 120 degree CCPM
2) It needs a signal to fire up - eg must be connected to a receiver
3) I’ve upgraded all to v5.0 firmware - had a failure once and there is a recovery process using V1.0 which worked fine

On this particular case, this type of FBL gyro works to stabilize aleron and elevator.
All the swashplate programming is doing on transmitter.

That is why this particular gyro is suitable for all CCPM and mechanical mixing system.

For instance, vbar Mikado is another story. All the programming is doing on the vbar gyro, instead of your transmitter. That is why you don't need a complex transmitter to run a mikado FBL gyro.

Rojoalfa All the swashplate programming is doing on transmitter.
In the 3GX manual it clearly states “turn off all mixing in the transmitter” There is also no option to change the 120ccpm swashplate setting, only to achieve correct Servo direction and travel

If this is incorrect, please post instructions to achieve the functionality you are claiming

Apologies / I found a thread which details the “auto detect” option which tracks the Transmitter mixing and sets the swash type accordingly - so it is correct that the tx sets this. Never too old to learn!!

I like this particular FBL gyro.
Why?
Because all the swashplate mixing is on the transmitter.
I have the authority on my transmitter. The FBL just make the correction to stabilize the rotor.

Of course, the FBL gyro controls ATV or end point, zero angle position and normal/reverse action of the gyro correction.

Disadvantage?
Well, I would like both gain mapped back to the transmitter and not local by a potentiometer.

Best of all?

Evolusia --- You need to stop posting all over the map, going from forum to forum, asking for help on the same topic. I spent quite a bit of time late yesterday essentially telling you all you need to know about how to install and set up the 3GX gyro. I also gave you information and advice on upgrading your 3GX to version 5.0 firmware.

In this post:

https://rc.runryder.com/p6730038/

at the bottom, is a link, to one of my posts from years ago -- which details step by step, installation, receiver connections, the fact that all swashplate mixing happens in the TRANSMITTER, and how to set your transmitter up for either 120 Degree CCPM OR standard, one-servo per axis as was used on the old Raptor helicopters of yesteryear.

Take some time to read through my posts. Once you have been through the 3GX setup once, and understand what you're doing with each step, the whole gyro can be setup in about five minutes.

It's really difficult to help someone if they don't bother to take the time to read posts from other members who have experience with the product and know what they're talking about. Go check out my post, click the link above -- then go to the bottom of THAT post, and click on the link just below the text "Just about everything you need to know about 3GX setup:"

Then enjoy flying the heli and 3GX. It really does work quite well.

Hi Dkshema, sorry about that. I did try to delete one of my posts to clean things up but I couldn't find a way. Please be assured I have taken all your info on board but time is limited sometimes for replies. My original post was only about upgrading the 3GX to V5 which I have successfully done but I much appreciate your time clarifying how to set the unit up, makes the original intructions much clearer especially the info on Dsm2/Dsmx sats. I would like to ask one other thing, maybe I've missed it but nowhere have I seen specific info on how to set the Tx prior to programming the 3GX. Is it just a vanilla reset to heli mode ensuring ch7 for tail rotor gain plus whatever rf mode. What if I want to use a 140 degree swashplate, something I am still not clear about. Many thanks for your time and input, and everyone elses, much appreciated.

Very good information!

Related to 140 degree swashplate...

This 3GX gyro don't care about swashplate configuration.
You can use it in different kind or type of heli's swashplate. This is because the swash programming is doing on your transmitter and NOT on the FBL 3GX gyro.

This gyro FBL, like any other FBL gyro make compensation and stabilize the two main direction on swashplate... Aileron and elevator. That is simple.
This FBL gyro don't care where the servos do the Job on swashplate.
It only need two direction... aileron and elevator.
