Logo 600 in storage for 5 years. Anything I should be aware of?
First time buying a heli that hasn't been used in some time. It was kept in a dry California attic unused. Some bolt heads have a little rust on first inspection, but other than that, I can't see anything immediately wrong. What do you guys recommend replacing/freshening up after long term storage? I'm mostly concerned about whether I should replace the belt. Should I be concerned about any of the electronics?

Thanks!

Hey nice logo I just purchase a used one about a month ago and from the looks of it looks like it haven’t been flown in a few years didn’t take much to get it flying one servo failed I replace so I hover it had a little issue with the tail but other wise I want a problem just go through it really well as long as the tail belt is not all dried up and no tears set it up and fly it

Other than the general cleanup, these are the things I would make sure to check. I don't think the attic where it was stored was quite as dry as you think, based on the looks of the main shaft and the bolt heads. That definitely indicates that you should check all your bearings to make sure they are good. If this were my heli and purchase, I would definitely replace the belt whether or not it has any cracks or nicks.

I have a flying buddy that has lost two Logo 600s due to belt breakage, so I would not trust a 6 year old belt that has been sitting in a hot attic.

Electronics wise, just a thorough operations checkout is all that should be necessary. I have 40 year old servos (40, hell, my Krafts are over 50) that still work just like they did when new, so just storing them shouldn't be any issue.

Hope this helps.

In addition to everything mentioned above, I would take the head apart & re-grease the thrust bearings and check for pitting where the thrust bearing balls sat for 6 years. I personally would replace all the bearings in the head for that matter.
I would also replace the bushings/dampers as they probably developed a flat spot from sitting that way for so long.
I would also replace/re-grease the bearings in the tail rotor as the grease probably has dried up on all the bearings in the heli.

Based on the age, I'd make sure to check if the ESC is an Ice II or Edge and not an Ice. The Ice has a design flaw that can cause the output circuit to fail and it will catch fire. Not only will it (literally) crash and burn, it tends to start grass fires.
We lost our noon-time heli field due to a failed Ice ESC and the local FD response.

Also, it looks like it is using a Mikado VBar with Spektrum sats.
Make sure to update the firmware on the VBar and then walk through the complete setup to make sure the configuration is not corrupt. You may have to reset to factory defaults and start over with the setup.
And, being that it may have been built about 6 or 7 years ago, check the sats to see if they are DSMX or DSM2. If you bind them to a newer DX transmitter, either one will work.
Personally, I prefer DSMX.

I'd be careful getting near 2200 HS with those tail grips---those are the originals which were prone to break at higher headspeeds. I believe you can retrofit the current 600 tail grips and pitch slider and it will not be a problem. Back in the day we upgraded to the quick UK tailgrips, which are also still available.

Also, with regard to DSM2 or DSMX I've used both fine for years--but you CAN NOT MIX THE TWO. Can't see what's on that model. But, either 2 DSMX or 2 DSM2 is fine (provided the vbar is programmed for the correct version)---but NOT one of each.

I see you are in Hawaii, so probably not an issue. Typically grounding-related static discharge happen where it's drier climate. But, I do see the tail ground strap installed. Since it's so old, I'd run a continuity check between the tail shaft and the motor mounting block to make sure it's still working.
if it ain't broke, break it.

In addition I would change out the ball links and check the plastic heim insert in the swashplate..it can come loose with age and separate in flight..it happened to me!..I would definitely put a new belt in too.I do a great decending funnel!

Check its power system, such as if the motor can run well, if there is any rust, add some oil to lubricate

Honestly, with the suggestions from above the right way and most thorough way is to take it all apart and start from scratch.Winter is here and that's usually the time to do a rebuild for many of us anyway.
Just a piece of mind, knowing you've gone through everything possible during the rebuild.

I'd just change the tail belt, pull the tail blade and main blade grips off and clean the thrust bearings and add new grease. I'd also say change out all the ball links.

Wow, thanks for all the info guys! I’ll be sure to replace the belt and all of the links first thing. Perhaps a complete tear down is warranted since the frames are so damn simple anyways.

Two more questions, is mikadousa the only place to get parts now? I remember readyheli back in the day but they’re no more. And as for the quickuk tail grips, where can I get myself a set?

Bearings and parts are on order. Thanks again everyone!

As for the swashplate, I do notice if I put some pressure from under the ball, the plastic can be pushed up a little. I don’t think it will easily separate, but I don’t want to test my luck. Is it advisable to press the plastic bit out and epoxy it back in?

I used jb weld on one of mine..it seems to holding up pretty good..on my 550..I took out two of the balls in the collar, shortened them just a little and ground down two really short set screws to lock the ring in place and screwed the balls back in over them..it's working great too! You have to use a drill and very carefully put a shallow pocket in the delrin ring to register the od of the set screw..but not compress the ring cause that locks up the heim ball.I do a great decending funnel!
