Bergen Intrepid Gasser engine died when doing flip
I have been scratching my head on this one.
I started the heli. brought it up in a hover, flipped to idle up did a climb out all was great. went to a forward flip and the engine died????
I finished the flip of power and damaged a couple parts on impact.
Anyone have a idea as to why it did this?
It has a g26, black box pipe, GV-1 with stator gator.
I did the Malorie throttle linkage setup.
It has ran great for many flights but this time it did this.
I am getting scared to fly it because of this. and not knowing why it happened.
the fuel line on tank is good. clunk was still attached, engine seems to be tuned good but I am not a gas engine master.
any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
after I get parts and get it ready to fly again I am going to disable governor and try it on curves to see if it does it.
Thanks in advance for your help

Ok... You don't give us more information about it.

It doesn't a matter if you put your heli with the face up or down...

Died... I could imagine your motor is blocked.. Fried...
So, it was running too lean and your motor's conecting rod broked...

First of all...

Let us know what happen with the motor...

How a petrol engine Died in flight...

1. Forgot to do the mix and run motor with only gas... Huge mistake.

2. Carburator went loose in flight causing a lean mixture.

3. Bad setup on carb needles causing a lean mixture.

4. Innapropied setup on carb needle causing reheating on motor.

5. Over-speed on motor causing overheating by incorrect setup governor.

6. Mistake on doing the correct mixture gas oil ratio.

7. Bad ventilation.

8. Some of the above by repetition, Every Day of flights Till motor broked.

9. Some of the above together.

1 only use gasoline been using same mix and gas since I got it
2 carb is tight all is good there.
3 needles checked and all are 1/8th turn out from factory settings.
4 same answer as above motor not over heated at all.
5 never over speeding never had or have issues with that.
6 same ratio been used since day one and is the recommended ratio by chris Bergen himself.
7 ventilation good using stock filter box always maintained.
8 motor is not broke still turns over and starts just fine.
9 my assumption of this post is you think I ran it lean which I did not by reading all of your fixes I think I must have ran it to rich on the low end causing the motor to choke on fuel and died when the governor dropped rpm when passing to mid stick.
Thanks for your input and thoughts much appreciated.

My first thought was a lean run. If the engine has run fine with the existing needle settings, pop the carb end plates and check filter screen, pump diaphragm, and check valve flappers. If any look shaky, get a carb kit and do clean out/parts replacement. The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Ok... Ok...

Motor not broked...

Well, after a flip your heli went off... That must be the clunk line in the gas tank.

Probably, that clunk line is hard to bend... By the time you did the flip, clunk line took air instead of gas.

Replace with a new gas tubing and recheck length... Too short or too long not good. Tubing with clunk must move freely inside tank.

will tank tank off and try new clunk line. I am using a fuel magnet that comes with it are these still the clunk to use or are there other options for gassers now?
Will also take apart carb and see if there is anything in need or replacing.
Thanks again guys for your help

Most of the time, the fuel line, clunk line, get hard and difficult to bend no matter how heavy the clunk is.

I use a Dubro Neoprene Fuel Tubing 3/32"... With gas, this line remain soft and don't get toast by gas action.

Tygon 3/32" is also a good choice...
Be aware of fitting... 3/32" is a small diameter.
