How much time between flights?
Hello,

I have two electric TREX 500 helicopters that I would like to fly one after each other, the flight time is 5 minutes, so two minutes later I am flying the other helicopter. I want to alternate between two helicopters the whole afternoon and then some.
So am I giving enough time between flights? Is 6 to 7 minutes long enough to let the motor and/or ESC cool down?
Regards, Dave

It is depend on your way to fly.

Neodimiun magnet are hard to kill but if you put your motor near 130 degree C... You are in serious problem.

Take some measurement first.
Fly your first attempt, check temp... Then, wait till motor temp cool down half... Fly your second attempt.
Compare and take care of motor temperature.

My Trex600E has a castle creation esc so, it is easy to get a log and check temperature versus time.

Saludos cordiales,

I fly my 500 dfc/xt 4 flights of 6:30 back to back . the motor is barely warm the ESC is still cool to the touch. It's the most efficient model I have. my 550 lands hot ESC and motor so I wait until the motor feels cool again about 5 mins.
my Nitro takes a good 10 minutes to get cold again ...

My gasser takes 30 secs to refill after a 12 min flight.

Hello,
Each flight of my Trex-500 is 5 minutes. After I land I put a new battery in the copter I just flew, and set it down. I get the other copter that already has a new battery and fly that for 5 minutes. So the down time turns out to be about 7 minutes. I have 10 batteries and a 4010 duo charger that I can do this all day long.
This past weekend I had 18 five minute flights, alternating between two helicopters, so each copter had 9 flights. I used a infrared thermometer to measure the temperature of the Motor,ESC and the battery before and after for the first ten flights of the day. The ambient air temp was 90F, which was the starting temperature at the beginning of every flight. The highest temperature recorded at the end of the first 10 flights was 107F, which was the flight battery.
So it appears to me that alternating between two copters with a 5 minute flight time was not the cause of the problem I WAS having. Before I went flying I looked at the solder connection of the EC5 on the ESC and it was a lousy solder joint. So I put on a new connector and took my time to solder it correctly. So no more snap, crackle, pop when I connect the flight battery.Periodically I used the infrared thermometer to measure the temp of the ESC connector and it was always around ambient. So at least for now the solder joint appears to be good.
So time will tell if the solder joint of the ESC goes bad after I go flying with 14 to 18 five minute flights per day. So it will be interesting what happens in a month or so. I only fly on weekends, usually both days.
Stay tuned for further details, or PM me if you want more info.
THANK YOU to everyone that has responded to my post.
Regards, Dave
