Drones to fight climate change? WTF... we got multimillion dollar weather satellites, and submeter resolution spy sats tied to pentaflop supercomputers and somehow a dinky quadcopter flown by some “expert” with his associates in uAVs over my backyard is going to get better data? Just another solution looking for a problem IMHOshowing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Rockin Bird I really don't understand.Sorry
It might be a good idea to catch up on current events and I'm not being a wise a$$ either. The reason for that is two fold; Amazon wants exclusive use of the airspace from 0' to 400'. Secondly if you received the email from AMA and have seen most of their promos in the last year via email or MA, it's clear to a lot of gray beards like me that the AMA is rapidly becoming the Academy of Multorotor Aeronautics. IOW, between the FAA with testing, Remote ID for those that fly in controlled airspace, new LOA's and other regs that the FAA can enact through 349 it's clear they want us as in modelers, gone. FAA considers us a PIA and so does the USSS and DHS.

I for one want to stick around and give them all a great big ****burger to eat but that's me.

Here's a link to Amazon waiver app for extended flights BLOS: https://eaa.org/eaa/news-and-public...E71F219CB0.ashx

It's not just Amazon, there are plenty more that want the airspace which brings up the poignant question; if we as in AMA members, risk losing our ability to fly in 0-400' airspace from Amazon, then why is AMA accepting advertising and also using one of those organizations that are trying to put us out of business in an email?

DJI and others are the prime reason that we are in this situation to start with and AMA gambled that MR fliers would join the Academy but that hasn't happened. Membership numbers are static. FAA, DHS and USSS can't seem to understand the difference between stabilized MR's and models. Furthermore if you are a dues paying member like I am it makes you wonder why you are even getting these sort of emails to start with in the modern marketing era of tightly focused mailing, knowing full well as AMA does what our interests are if you fill out the poop sheet when you join/renew.

Terry is totally right on this one. Our only hope in this battle is NUMBERS. The major factors in public policy and legislation is money and number of individuals represented. All one has to do is look at the power NRA has in influencing both state and federal legislation - money and number of members. Unfortunately, the r/c community and AMA combined don't have enough money to have a significant impact on the FAA regulations. But, we do have a national organization with visibility and standing before the FAA and Congress.

I have been a Amateur Radio operator (HAM) for over 50 years and we are constantly being threatened with loss of frequencies by a wide range of commercial users who want a piece of the radio spectrum allocated to Amateur Radio. Our survival has been due to a long history of providing communication during/following disasters when the commercial communication systems fail AND effective representation before Congress and federal authorities by the Amateur Radio League.

I'm not suggesting that you must agree with everything AMA does (or doesn't) do. But, I am saying that AMA is the only representation that we have and we need to support it by joining. The AMA is the only voice we have and the only way to influence that voice is from the inside. And, the way to increase the impact of that voice with Congress and federal agencies is by increasing the number of members represented.

So, you don't have to like the AMA or everything it does, but we need it and it needs us - all of us. And, frankly, if the membership dues are too much for you, then you probably can't afford to be in this hobby.

That is all.

Well said Dave. At the end of the day the AMA is the only voice we have. I've been a member since I started in the hobby in the mid-1990s and have never considered not being a member.

Quoting the Squeaker of the House..

"No one is above the law..."

Let's get on the NAR, THOSE BOIS GOTTA FLY AT 400 OR LESS IF WE DO....!

Make no mistake, this is war...If the hobby contracts much due to illegal regulations (regulations enacted by graft)..those of us who would fly anyway won't have anything to fly...Maybe a big black market flying heli partz in across border by drone...Think I'm kidding..?
Just sit back.

Worse than I thought...

Had discussions with AMA today...DOJ, FBI, Homeland security all involved in our demise...An example explained to me...One AMA staff member was told by one of our overlords that the next 9/11 could be caused by a 1/2 pound model aircraft....Yes, these hacks are that stupid.

I will post more later, but if you want to keep flying, start calling start screaming..We are in a world of hurt.

John.

There's no explaining it to them either. The Feds just don't get it. One of the things that they are most afraid of is Turbines. AMA gets it but no amount of explaining, demonstrations or conferences reach these folks.

Case in point is the debacle with Boeing and the FAA; what a nightmare and FAA owns it, IMHO.

Every RC'er could register and it wouldn't mean diddly, still a very small percentage of the population. Id wager that more people would vote against RC because they are afraid of them drones spying on them. The only numbers these politicians care about is money and compared to big business, we ain't got none that matters. Pirate RC flying is the only way to go from here from my perspective, we haven't been given a fair shake since the bullseye was planted on RC models..
