I doubt TMRF will sell a lot of this $2k kits around the world. So at some point RC Japan should be able to sell this high end kit to anyone willing to pay that much.

The lack of availability of this kit on RC Japans website may reflect USA's longtime lack of large interest in Hirobo's offerings and Hirobo's regard for the American market.....????

Eagle 4's
First new Hirobo built and test flown. Last Eagle I owned must have been an 60EX in the 1990's. 1st flight out of the way, time to start to dial it in for the 2020 competition season over here in the UK.

What a great looking helicopter.

You can buy Hirobo straps from TMRF or RC Japan. It’s a shame to see the A word on a Hirobo helicopter.

Yes, I complained that Hirobo straps didn't come in the kit, nor did it have a foam blade keep for the tailboom. Align parts will have to do for now."If you know what you're doing, you're not learning much"

The quality of the kit is what you'd expect from Hirobo. The auto unit brought a tear to my eye as I assembled it - just a work of art."If you know what you're doing, you're not learning much"

It's a spiritual journey that can only be understood by buying an Eagle 4 kit and building it. That said, Ian Emery is about to build his - I'll ask for some pics "If you know what you're doing, you're not learning much"

Eagle 3 nitro is still made by Hirobo, although not with flybarless head. Having said that I'm pretty sure Hirobo will swap out the SSZV for an SSL2 head no problem as these kits are made to order.

Turbulence V3 is released and is available here in the UK.

For sale of discussion, can any one pitch why the Eagle 4 is so highly valued by Hirobo? What makes the Eagle 4 special over other mid to high end models nowdays? And why to choose it over other high end helicopters that have dominated the F3C scene like the Goblin Urukay, which is substantially less in cost and seems more innovative.

And why to choose it over other high end helicopters that have dominated the F3C scene like the Goblin Urukay, which is substantially less in cost and seems more innovative.
Allow me to answer your question:

Hirobo has been in the RC helicopter business since the late 70s. They've been building RC helicopters along with the other Japanese companies like Kyosho and JR. Speaking of innovation, it's these 3 companies that first introduced plastic airframes to the business when the normal airframes where out of balsa wood and aluminum. They were called "plastic fantastics". Hirobo has been honing their skills in building "quality" RC helicopters and have been doing them consistenly throughout their line of products all these years.

SAB on the other hand is considered a "new kid on the block". We all can agree that their products are well built and they are quality made. They also as you mentioned innovative as they are the ones that introduced a different drive system and a full carbon fiber fuselage type body and tail. SAB has invested a lot of their technology on flybarless systems while the competitors like Hirobo / JR / Kyosho are barely getting into that system. They were also the first to use a 3-bladed main rotor both for 3D and F3C application. All that is well received by many and we do wish them all the success in the future. However, there is one thing that SAB lacks and that is a rich legacy and history that stretches back in decades.

The reason the Eagle 4 is highly valued though not by many but by a select few is because of its new design and look on that platform. Though for you those features may sound antiquated in terms of technology, it is something significant for us. Why? Because Hirobo is known not to "over engineer" something that is already a proven technology. In layman's term "why fix something that is not broken or why reinvent the wheel?" If you look at the Eagle line up beginning in the late 90s to 2015 you will see that most of them all look the same as far as the layout is concerned. Hirobo is known to use a 2-stack airframe and a push and pull link system. Also their parts can be used on other platforms as they share the same components. Their nitro and electric versions are all similar in layout. Now, just because they look similar does not mean they will not work or fly well. Their build is full of quality and perform like clock work. The people responsible for creating this kit are all skilled craftsmen that have years of experience in machining and have used tools that dates back to the company's inception. They've received several of World Championship trophies in past F3C and 3D competitions that's why they dubbed their flagship lines as WC.

With the Eagle 4 and its introduction of the direct servo link, new helical drive gear, new airframe layout with a top motor mount, new flybarless head, and new canopy it's like telling us that this new iteration is Hirobo's response to a new era of users. It may sound late for a lot of RC helicopters enthusiast, but it is something noteworthy to followers like us.

I'd like to re-iterate your question in a different way so you can get the overall perspective of where we are all coming from.

"What makes the Rolex watch so valuable and expensive when you can get a smartwatch that is full of technology and innovation for a fraction of the price? Analog watches are of the past, smartwatches are the future."

"What makes the Leica camera valuable and expensive when you can get a Canon or Sony which has better features and technology and takes better photos?"

"Why are high end Mercedes Benzes and BMWs so valuable and expensive when you can get a Lexus with better reliability for a reasonable price?"

It's all about a company's rich heritage and legacy. It's like a wine. The more its aged, the more value it earns.

You lost me there, and I’m a long time Hirobo owner since the mid 90s. You basically said it’s a status symbol that isn’t as good as the competition in actual features and performance.

My answer is Hirobo is expensive because they are well designed machines that have been refined over generations and are built to last. They also have limited distribution and less units to amortize out the costs of production, so the prices are higher. Are they better built than a Synergy or SAB? Not necessarily, but they are more rare and rarity is a selling point, and the product you end up with is well designed and will perform well.
