Stabilit question
Why can't we get Stabilit in the US now? You would think that it could be shipped by surface and not be a big deal and that one of the Hobby shops in North America would have it. what is everyone using in its place if it's not available?

I can't find stabilit. I can find Sta-bil. Is this what you are looking for?

Like BeltFed, I wonder if you weren't looking for Sta-Bil - the gas stabilizer. It has application to this hobby and is ubiquitous. If that's what you looking for, it's everywhere (and it works wonderfully). I'm not sure why a hobby shop (do those still exist?) would carry it when you can buy it at Walmart or Amazon. Do I remember seeing it at the grocery store?

I Googled Sabilit and there does seem to be a company by that name. See link. I not sure how it has any link to this hobby.

Yes, but they won't ship it to the US. It states that on the checkout when you place the order.

And no, I'm not looking for gasoline stabilizer. I can buy that at any local store. Stabilit Express is a 2 part adhesive that us old timers used on scale fuselages and nearly anything that needed to be glued. It used to come with every Kavan kit and some of the Schluter kits. Stabilit is still available in Europe and the UK but not here since 2008. It was a staple of every flight box of anyone that flew rc helis in the 70's. I got a another post from the scale forum that Hysol is the new "magic" adhesive from McMaster Carr. I'll give it a try. I just added up the years and I've been tinkering with RC helis for 45 years now and back into the 60's with the Cox models.

Yup... Sorry. I do remember that older epoxy, vaguely. Didn't mean to hijack your thread."Well, nothing bad can happen now."

Hysol is awesome stuff. The one big negative is the self mixing tips which are great, wouldn't use it withought them, but you need to replace them each use. this is a good alternative that isn't as expensive, and tips are also available. https://www.horizonhobby.com/aero-t...y--50ml-dlmad64Gary Wright

Hysol is indeed a merely good epoxy
However; for those of us with high quality old school experience from the FIRST helis, even Herr Schkuter specifically speaks to the superiority of genuine stabilit in his build manual!... it is polyester based, just like many of the original fuses from the seventies... which is why for binding formers and the like and all purpose use it simply has no peer.
Nothing bonds the transmission cases in the Schluter oil bath units anywhere nearly as well...Its Elvis in the building all the way
Once you use it, you will be not accepting inferior substitutes either
It kicks ass...
ITS BEEN AROUND OVER SIXTY YEARS...
Fear not Randall, I have a trip to the fatherland in september. Ktaftwerk then JetPower meet where i will see the new turbine Harrier fly, with great interest

The boat will have lots of stabilit traveling on it...

I’m so old school I only use old school adhesives!
I will accept no substitutes...

JAWOHL!!!

Thanks Michael, I'm looking forward to your report on the European trip. If you can bring some back with you I'll be in your debt. It will be good to have the Hysol as a backup. I've got a NIB Heim 222 that was started on many years ago by the original owner and it needs to be finished. The Stabilit Express would be the crowning touch to an old school heli. I think Herr Heim would approve.

Gary, does the Aero Tech require a separate tip for each use like the Hysol? It seems like the mixing tube wastes a lot of material.

yes it does, and you can buy them seperately (just the tips, several to a pack) It's a lot of waste just like the "real" hysol, but the convenience I find well worth the expense working on something composite you can reach inside the fuse and apply it easily.Gary Wright

I'm still at a loss as to why it isn't still available here? It's not like it's Granny's secret recipe or anything. It's a polyester based glue that's been around for 60 years for crying out loud. It appears to me that the more "advanced" we become as a society the closer we slip towards the dark ages. (Tick Tock) Ask a teenager to locate any country or major city on the globe and I'll bet that they can't answer the question or put a map and a compass in front of them and see what kind of bewildered look you get.

I have no idea why this product has become difficult to find locally but I wonder if they simply didn't want to put up with some bull shi* from California which decided something in their product (or packaging) was harmful to dipshi*s. Faced with labeling their product "know to the state of California as a carcinogen", or not sell in America at all, they chose the latter.

I've got a news flash. Life is toxic and the longer you are exposed to it, the greater your chance of death.
