MA proflex starter wand
I know this might be a longshot, but does anyone have a proflex starter wand for sale? Or is everyone converting over to 6mm hex for the older furys and stratuses? Thanks

I didn't and don't plan to convert my Furys and Stratus to the hex adapter. I still use the proflex.

Which, MinAir-Germany still sells by the way. They were never cheap, and they're still not. It's an option if you can't find a used one. I just looked and they're $68. I want to say I paid around $60 for mine about 15 years ago.

BTW, about lubricate this wand...

You run this gadget with plenty of grease?
Just a little bit?
Or no grease at all?

My wand is making a nasty sound when starting my fury 91 tempest...

I had tried different possibilities without success...

No lube..... that attracts dirt and dust and will make it fail sooner ..... they are fragile to begin with ....

Mmmm... Ok, probably it is slipping... To much grease...

I put some silicone grease on it...
I'm going to wash this wand...

It is easy to forget to clean the starter shaft on heli... Hard to do this.

MA proflex starter wand
I had a MA proflex starter wand years ago. One day I was having trouble
starting my heli, had the throttle quite high and it started up at a high
speed locking the little needle bearings in the one way solid to the
start shaft and the other end came out of the rubber insert on the starter.
It was flying around bouncing off my hand that was holding the head from
spinning, I had the canopy off and was able to pinch the fuel line to stop it as I set the Tx to faraway to grab. Lost a little skin on the fingers,
could have been worse if the proflex would have been mounted solid to the
start shaft. My new system uses the hex adapter that goes on the heli start
shaft. The adapter has to be heated red hot and let cool,as they are hard,
they need to be soft to drill out round to fit the size of the round part of
a R/C car or truck dog bone. Cut in half and you have 2. You need to use
your Dremel with a cut off disk to cut the slot for dog bone, next put the
shaft with worn off hex in lathe and cut off the worn part and drill a hole
1 inch deep to the size of the dog bone shaft and hold with 2 set screws as
I did, On another one the set screws came loose so I silver soldered it in.
I have been using both for the last 15 years, I lent one to a friend who went to a fun fly in the Portland,Or area and Curtis Youngblood was there
and had a look at it,,was very impressed.

Got my son here to post a picture.
The starter drive unite came from Centry Heli thats on the DynaTron,
I was basicly a hex drive that I wore out, that,s when I went looking
around some hobby shop`s and spotted a RC truck dog bone I though would
work.
It works just fine, the only draw back is you need a lathe to do this or
get a friend with 1 or take to a machine shop.
If you don,t want to modive the hex that goes on the heli, some shops
may have the piece that the dog bone fits into.
I found 1 once that worked...6mm all the rest I had to modify or make from
scrach.
The 1 on the Hobbico is a Vario unit..Has part# 4281 on it, that was hex
drive that I converted to dog bone. this unit will start a 90 size nitro
but not the Spectra-G gasser when its cool outside
