My Ikarus Piccolo with the recommended 'Piccoboard' for control was all but a distant bad memory until Danny Calderone brought it back! Darn that thing was a waste of money and was my first attempt at helis. I gave up after a few months and flew planes again for years before trying it again with something better.

lol the piccoboard! If pgoelz didn’t repair mine I probably would have quit the piccolo. I had one them fancy pricey high frequency escs grafted to it all to save a $6 tail motor lol good times!Heli-itis sufferer.

Helicek Hello my vote goes to MFA 500 sport

With a little bit of fettling I managed to get mine to fly quite well.. Mine was fixed pitch (the Collective one wasn’t about when I started flying..) so stopping it was the biggest problem.

I learned to hover with this helicopter. For what it was, it was OK, I think. It did fly and it was the cheapest thing you could get to learn on at the time. Experienced airplane modelers who where tinkerers did OK with it. It required a lot of attention to building (some part needed massaging) and the blades had to be built but it did hover and could fly around for $199.00 which was, I think, the cheapest heli you could get at the time.

Where would a Heliboy fit in all this? [Had one back in the late 70s, but never managed to fly it.]"The helicopter is much easier to design than the aeroplane, but is worthless when done. W. Wright"

I had a few.

First was the QWW 30. I think I might have gotten two or 3 flights out of it before the metal frame broke and it destroyed itself.

Second was the Eco 8. It was built so fragile to save weight but had the huge, heavy big as battery pack in it. Even a minor crash destroyed it. I don't think I could get over 1000 rpm on it either.

Third was the MS Hornet. I would get 1 or 2 decent flights before something would break itself while flying.

These are the ones that stand out but I've had more that had lots of issues.

Can only cover electrics from around 2005 to 2012

Everything produced by Walkera
Shogun 400 (omg the tail was the worst)
QWW - RIP (QoJ was the exact opposite - I still have a EP-8)

T-Rex 450 X (original -- but it was by far the most reliable learner)
