Dan, that was an insightful post, Thank you some of it was hurtful, but true.

I believe we all have seen the top of the mountain and we will miss the camaraderie of this forum. Keep in mind everything changes but not always for the better. Sometimes reality hurts.

I started "The After Life" thread with some humor, and sometimes that is the only way to make lemonade. It has been a fantastic run but just as a loved ones passing we must all move beyond the sorrow and get on with our lives. I am in the twilight of my hobby after beginning it at the age of five. I have too much invested to simply shut it down, but it will be down hill from here.

Mark, I wish you the best of luck, and I am sorry RR has put you in the shape you described earlier. May God be with you!!!

One word... Facebook. Think about it, in less than 5 minutes you can set up a "forum" dedicated to anything you like for FREE. Instantly receive FB notifications on posts, post images, be in contact with people all over the world etc on a platform that is already being used my millions of people. Mobile friendly. No subscription required. Unfortunately online "forums" are seeing a very fast death on the internet.

Every peak has it's valley. Mankind has always wanted to soar with the birds, so it's my opinion RC will never die.

I can't get upset at the current generation, humans are doing what they do best, create new technologies and advance in whatever way the tech will allow. Older generations may scoff, but they only hurt themselves with negativity.

Our tech has always had one true underlying goal, freeing up our time to pursue the next level of our advancement.

It's like in the car world, purist always say self driving cars ruins the driving experience, but self driving cars frees up the mundane task of getting from A to B and one can engage in more productive activities. (Or not) I mean, if all you are doing is performing task merely just to suruvive the day, then it's pretty hard to focus on other task and say build a rocket to reach the moon.

I tend to make more positives than negatives these days, as after all, a positive or negative view is in the eye of the beholder anyway.

Wish to thank Mark for the site as I've been on it since the beginning. I still remember when he was talking about the site when it was still just an idea in his head, but his execution and dedication made it more than just a idea. He's a good dude through and through who just wanted to make sure his kids got the best he could give them. He saw a opportunity when RC Online was going down hill, filled the need and was in the right place at the right time for growth. He also had great members like me to post content for free (while I was at work, lol)

My lifes ambiance was certainly different in 2001 as it is now. Met the Love of my life going on 14 years now, lost my younger brother, my sisters have grown up and one is getting married! Runryder has always been there to shoot the breeze, keep up with old friends, check out the happennings in the heli world and so forth.

I'm fairly sure it's going to be like losing a family member of sorts and some days I just may type in http://www.runryder.com out of habit and realize it's gone.....

Anyways, Happy Holidays my RC friends, everyday can and will be filled with joy and happiness if you let it. You'll be a long time dead, don't let the worms have all the fun!

Happy flying my friends!

Is there an affordable way to cache the info here so it's still searchable thru Google and the likes? Although it wouldn't be an active forum anymore, it could still be a repository of valuable info!

nope... storage costs money... a system like this requires not only storage but an active data management system which in turn is managed by a IIS and actively hosted and kept an eye on... all that costs way more money than people realize.

even stripping it down to text only would be a task within itself not worth the effort. Even though there is alot of what appears to be valuable information, there is undoubtedly alot more garbage.

funny how this event we see all 7 stages of grief...
Shock & denial, Pain and guilt, anger & bargaining, depression & reflection, upward turn, reconstruction , and finally acceptance & hope.

accept it and move on.

The complexities of this hobby helped me relate my studies to something tangible for my college course work and helped be become fairly decent and confident in troubleshooting complex issues in complex mechanical and electrical systems.

Unfortunately the people want everything with minimal effort. Helis are very complex machines and multirotors give you a thrill with way less consequences and less money. I am fortunate my son loves this stuff and gets to play with my toys, we were flying a tandem helicopter today and he loves it. He also loves handling my RC helis.

I just captured my entire gallary in a 350 pg PPT slide package...haven't looked at that stuff in a long time and brought back great memories.

Thanks Mark for this forum. It brought many people together to learn and teach.

All the best!

I offered to do exactly that:
rc_helis_00 If there is no sale of the hardware and software, and you are planning to close the site, I would be willing to host an archive of the content. It would be static and minimally styled.
I meant that I'd do it for free, if that wasn't understood. I take it Mark doesn't want to share his data for free, though.
RM3 nope... storage costs money... a system like this requires not only storage but an active data management system... even stripping it down to text only would be a task within itself not worth the effort.
I disagree. If the content is in a sensible database, it should be fairly simple and inexpensive to host a static archive.

Maybe Mark should ask, if the owner of Scorpion Motors might be interested in RunRyder. ?
Scorpion Motors is/was a very loyal advertiser for a very long time.
Might be a good idea.?

Site really never really had a chance to sell without the domain name... I'm not surprised at the lack of offers that fit this criteria. I'd be willing to bet there were offers that included the domain name. I do understand Mark wanting to hand on to it though.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great years on here. I stumbled across the site just after graduating high school (I'm now 37). It's been fun.

Been in this business myself on and off for 20 years... not once have I run across a DB that made sense to anyone other than the creator, and not once have I ever seen a single developer be correct concerning a simple process for any system they have never actually seen the inner workings. Secondly a static archive for a dying hobby is a money pit.
