16SZ vs 18SZ
What’s the difference between the 16 and 18 except for more channels on the 18?

Good question.

I don't personally own either radio (I have and 18MZ) but I believe the sticks on the 18SZ as compared to the 16SZ are superior.

I did a little looking around and the consensus seem to be that the main differences are:

16SZ--
1) It uses the sticks from the 14SG (which people liked)
2) It has 2 fewer trims on the front (T5 & T6)
3) It comes with a NiMH pack (but a LiFePO4 pack will fit)
4) It is black instead of silver

They appear to be very similar radios to each other and they both appear to be surprisingly similar to the 18MZ, especially considering the price gap.

The same number of channels, the 14SG gimbals and NiMH battery instead of lithium for power.

It been a while that futaba don't surprise with new model transmitter. Every model look and seem the same thing.

After 12z,12fg,14mz and 18mz, things look similar on futaba TX...

Reason?...
It is difficult to step back from 18mz...or even worst, going from fasst or fasstest to Fhss...

Dr.Ben Actually, the same number of chsnnels, the 14SG sticks and NiMH battery instead of lithium for power.
Well... Now we’re getting down into the details on this one but I believe the 16sz is actually 16 proportional plus two switched channels. If I’m not mistaken that exactly matches the 18SZ and 18MZ configuration.

If Futaba had followed tradition the 16SZ should have been called an 18 channel.

Ben I bet you meant what I posted. When I first read your post I thought you meant the 14sg and 16SZ had the same number."Well, nothing bad can happen now."

16sz only has adjustable stick tension on elevator, aileron, rudder. Throttle uses a cheap cantilevered metal strap for throttle friction. Have to remove back of TX for access, then bend strap to "adjust"...good luck with that. 18sz has adjustable stick tension on all 4 stick directions, don't have to take back off to get to throttle, and has 1.5mm SHCC's instead of cheap Phillips head screws for tension adjustment. 18sz much better. Too bad they're both made in communist China.
