Hi gents so wise and good
Answer me please if anyone could.
I have just been given a skookum gyro
Can’t find much out no matter no how
Are they still about? are they please?
If you have info please don’t tease

£2000 heli testing in this thing
If it goes wrong that’s a very big PING! (Or major crash to be fair)
Any advice gratefully received

Poetry or prose?
Noone really knows.

Support for Skookum has most certainly ceased
'Tis the time of year, Trick or Treat!

Lots of great options to choose from
But none will prevent the dreaded dumb thumb

Hither, wither and nevermore you say?
Best to update to ensure you have a great day!

Steve

They have abandoned their hobby grade electronics, however they still fly helis just fine. Plenty of info on youtube and such to get a good setup and enjoy.

Thank you for all the feedback gentlemen
I’ll fit it then give it a go. It’s a pity they stopped producing as I quite fancy the idea of experimenting with their GPS system too (hey we all have to learn something new don’t we?)
Cheers all.

I never had any luck with the SK720BE / GPS1 on my Trex 600E Pro DFC.
No matter how much I tried, I could not get the vibration low enough for the Return Home or the Rescue to work.
Mid-way through every flight, the blue LED started blinking to indicate the Return Home / Rescue was offline

And, the SK540 (red case) never worked very well on my Trex 600N DFC.
I seemed to spend every flight tuning the gain on the tail or the head.
It was never ending.

And then SW updates stopped arriving and the customer support disappeared.

I gave up and sold everything I had that was Skookum for 50¢ on the dollar and have been happy with the my new FBL system since day-1

I never had peoblems with vibes on my helis so the GPS worked well for me. However, I just setup the self level and used that as a bailout and never needed the GPS. So i sold them. All my helis were Skookum and flew Okay.
When I switched to Vbar, the initial setup ( just dialing in head and tail gain ) the helis flew better than they ever did with Skookum even after adjusting all the parameters.
Skookum did me well when I used them, won't go back or really recommend anyone to use them, but they do function and if you just fly big air/ sport flying, you may never know the difference between them and something better.

I used the Align and the Beast X, Skookum blows them away easy to set up and so much less wiring but can be hard to tune as there are no instructions,so one has to contact the pilots direct.

Cheers guys
There appears to be a love hate reatlionshop with it.
I have been given it so seems churlish to not try it but also don’t fancy smacking a £1000 heli just to try it.
Not sure where to go with it all now.
Thank you all for your thoughts and feedback.

Cheers
Ade

Oh yeah - the programmer.
That thing was a PITA for sure. The little 4-pin connector and the wires always broke.
Yuck.

Skookum
I have 4 of the SK540s. Absolutely loved them. The Canadians version of customer service, not so much. They were truly locked in and my first try with an FBL system. Used Mikado and Beast just to try them, but liked the way the skookum flew and the use of JR sats. But JR went away and I accidentally destroyed my radio. So I am back to Spektrum, where i started with my first 600 class heli. I have an IX12 now and am considering using my Skookums with sats. Never had a transmission failure with my JR/Spektrum sats combo. Watched Curtis Y fly my Rave into the clouds and outta site. He never lost control. Nothing wrong with a Skookum other than being out of production/support. Alvin has some great tuning info and Datidun has a way to contact him if needed.

I still have a skookum 540.
I don't use it anymore since I could not get rid of the elevator bounce.
When they first came out it seemed very promising, but for whatever reason they bailed out.

The problem is the fine tuning, once you get that sorted it works out well, a bounce on Elevator is due to a high Bell gain count
